I didn't back it due lack of resources, but I'm sure interested. Here's my attempt:

EDIT: Just read the thread, that Pay2Win stuff seems very hazardous...

My vote definitely goes toward Felipepepe's design. Blaine's isn't shabby, but for a badge that (I guess) would be on the sides of space ships Felipepepe's would be way more eyecatching at a distance.

Hell, wouldn't even really need to work on it much. Just some minor cleaning up of the black borders on the troll (And maybe remove the black tips of the horns poking outside of the inner circle) and that basically looks good to go.

It's unknown if we'll be able to put custom designs on ships in the persistent universe.

I like felipepe's design as well, but bear in mind that mine is a very rough draft. I think either one will need a lot of work before being declared finished... mine more than his, because it's going to end up being more complicated.

Also, I question whether it might not be better if "Incline Incorporated" remain in English, while "Codex Diversity Squadron" or whatever variant be in Latin.

We'll need to decide on the exact wording at some point in order to move forward with finalizing the design. Again, there's plenty of time.

Felipepe's design is more popular. My thought is that the troll face, its fists, and so on should be more detailed than our usual troll, since it's so prominent, matching what is seen in sports logo mascots. Like this:

tiger-mascot-logo-prev1260508090hpPW04.jpg

Obviously it won't be a tiger, but the horns and eyes would be detailed, it would have a scowling mouth, a detailed furrowed brow, more color gradation, and so on. The overall form factor and coloration would of course remain the same.

I have an artist in mind already whose skills likely exceed any Codexian's. Take a look at these examples of his work. I'm already in contact with him and he does take commissions from the general public.

I don't think that's necessary, the troll is already iconic and our mascot. Besides, the lack of details and colors gives it that "patch" look, like something that can/would actually be made into a logo for a squadron.

Those images you posted are awesome, but they are borderline impossible for a regular human to recall or reproduce... logos have to be "catchy", something that a quick look instantly reckonizes, not work of art for you to stare for days... I have absolutly no idea of where that tiger is from, but everyone here can reckonize he simple drawing of the Chicago Bulls logo.

I vote for felipepepe 's "unclean" version (ha, ha... "unclean"... get it?). Seriously, that's the best one by far and doesn't need anymore detail. Maybe the horns shouldn't pop through the circle part.

Eh, I disagree. I can recall plenty of sports and squadron logos with a bit more detail to them.

In any event, I still think it needs cleaned up and polished: Some of the lines are too fat, there are jaggies here and there, and in general it just looks a bit rough.

Did somebody say "real patch"? :troll:

That's a viable option I'm quite willing to consider (and would likely be much less expensive than having an artist do something custom), by the way: Decide on the wording we want, clean up the PNG a bit, then send it off and have actual patches made. Scan the patch, clean up the scan in Photoshop/apply filters as desired, and voila—it literally looks like a patch.

Then I'll mail out the patches to people so we can sew them on our fedoras in real life.

Isn't it usually the 'motto' that is in Latin where the name is standard English (or whatever the native tongue is)?

Yep.

"Codex" is already a Latin word, so my recommendation would be to work the closest Latin equivalent to "diversity" (it hadn't been invented back then, so we'll have to get creative) and something else in there somehow to make a motto.

Codex Diversity Squad doesn't make much sense as a motto. Incline Incorporated does to a larger extend, and also makes more obvious sense in latin.

I don't think either of them makes a bit of sense sense as a motto. If people really want "Codex Diversity Squadron" as the primary name, then an actual motto about incline would make much more sense. "Inclino" or "vergo" are real Latin words for "incline." Trying to have both names is silly.

Perhaps we should solicit for suggestions, then take a poll at some point.
