I may have missed if this was mentioned before, but does anyone know if the game/s will have realtime planetfall transitions or if it's a loading screen set up?

It will have real-time seamless (or the appearance of seamlessness to players) planetfall transitions, though on release it will essentially just be an in-engine cutscene that the player cannot participate in. Later, CR hopes to allow you to land manually on planets.

Atmospheric flight would be awesome but unfortunately it's going to be like Freelancer/Privateer.

At launch, yes.

Honestly cutscenes for transitioning between space and atmosphere seems better. Flying manually would be time consuming and not really add much to the experience, I'd say. I guess the only gameplay impact it could have (And it'd be a cool one admittedly) would be if your ship can handle atmospheric flight and a ship you're chasing/being pursued by can't. If you handle it via cutscenes there would either be an immediate "Entering the planet cutscene so the ship suddenly zooms into the planet really fast" animation, or it would be gradual and take over control and give the ship a long chance to get shot up. If you handle it manually you have plenty of opportunity for escaping via planets. Might be a way to increase fighter/small ship viability, or give a way for some lower range fighters to compete/retreat from fancier models if the snazzier fighters have all that extra space performance at the cost of being able to function on planets.

Still, since they're probably gonna go the Freelancer/Privateer route most likely all/most ships will be able to at least land on planets.

Plus since I doubt they'll have sensors detailed enough in-game to show ships in atmospheric flight on planets while you're in space, so theoretically a ship could pop down to the planet, circle around to the other side, pop out, then make a hasty retreat to whatever form of FTL is going to be in the game. Speaking of which, have they mentioned what that's going to be? Jump gates? Hyperdrive on ships themselves? FTL capability on capital ships but not smaller?

Man, that 300i video looks amazing, almost makes me want to get it, but then again 55$ is a bit too much for me.

By the way, I know that atmospheric transitions won't be playable at launch but is there going to be any kind of in-atmosphere gameplay or the planets will serve mostly as hubs where you can interact with other people and buy/sell stuff?

If it's too time consuming then there's always time compression or wing commander style autopilot. The ability for atmospheric flight would add more variety to the missions. Imagine dog fighting enemy fighters in the upper atmopshere and then engaging armored vechicles on the ground. This could be great if done properly, with different airplane-like flight model.

Lets look at my mail for more gameplay info of that kickstarter i wrongfully slander , oh how surprising, another sale! But this time they are reasonable , no 1000$ goodies , its only 100$ for the best I300 version the i350, for extra thrust and extra missile and massdriver .

There'll be another sale during the livestream and simultaneous transition to the new and much-improved website on the 28th. They'll be offering the Avenger (yet to be revealed), revealing the Idris Corvette's concept art/model, and, it's believed, offering at least one other ship for sale as well.

In any case, the vast majority of backers—certainly the vast majority of active forum posters and chatroll participants, at any rate—enjoy these sales, ask for them, practically beg for them even. Both have been sales of variants of the two most basic ships in the game, and have brought in an additional $890,000 and counting (the 300i sale has brought in $188,000 since last night).

As always, we are doing these promotions as way to bring new people into the community – the Aurora promotion managed to bring in three times the amount of people to the game that were previously joining and almost 70% of the dollars raised came from new backers which was great! If you are an existing backer please pledge because you want to support the game’s development and our quest to make this the first fully community funded AAA game and not because additional ships are necessary for the experience. You will be able to acquire all of these craft and upgrades in the finished game using in-game credits.

The supersonic transition is a nice touch but because speeds involved in space travel are so huge it's pretty ridiculous to make it seem as if it were only a supersonic aircraft. I guess in the future world of space travel envisioned by Roberts the population is even dumber than the present day average American consumer.

I dont know about the backers but the forums users dont complain indeed, sometimes you may find one or two guys awakening and realizing they might get a few games instead of one virtual ship but the majority seems to agree to pay a lot more to get ingame priviledges. Well i remember some eve buddies paying up to 250$ a month on eve online to satisfy their pvp needs and bypass grinding, wich in eve is horribly boring , so i guess it caters to that crowd.

Those people were retards—not because they paid $250 a month, but because in EVE one can PvP, bypass grinding, and still pay $0 per month. Sounds like they never figured it out.

Looks very promising to me.
In a sense of their being possibilities to carve your own gameplay, if you choose to.
Some parts i wont touch, maybe, but even some sections of MP have potential. Good thing is that all the stuff you can buy, you can also get through the gameplay, which is of course appropriately harder. And ultimately more rewarding since you get to play all of it.

And being able to play SP missions in coop isnt a bad thing either.

:bounce:The ship design in Star Citizen is beautiful! I love the attention to detail, how this stuff is not only made to look cool, but also to be functional to some degree (the manouvering thrusters in the correct places, space for the crew inside etc). And it's reminiscent of Wing Commander/Privateer style. I'm really exited about this game, the only thing that puts me of is that "buy virtual stuff with real money" crap.

The only reason it's not called Wing Commander is EA having its filthy tentacles on the brand. But I really aprreciate that Chris didn't go too modern on the ships, they were made to appeal to oldfags.

I'm not sure if it is intended as "fuck you" to EA

They should've gone with the original logo rather than that new popamole decline design though.

yeah... fuck it... cant get rid of all tropes i guess.
Still, if you close an eye on that one thing the rest is really nicely fit.

Who knows... maybe new designs will come with time. (maybe you can build your own shipyard eventually, or pay... to get your own ship made). Didnt i hear something about selling your own designs and seeing other players fly ships like that later?
+ Other races.... other tech...

Speaking of the bridge, you'll note that the four seats in the rear have lozenge-shaped workstations in front of them. There are four "regular" turrets on the Idris. Although each turret has its own cockpit, I would assume that those workstations can also be used to display a video feed for the turrets and control them.

The seat in the middle closest to the strategic table is pretty obviously the captain's chair, or the pilot's. The two seats closest to the fore of the bridge may control the main gun and railgun respectively, and perhaps the two remaining seats control shield/power distribution systems and detection/radar/ECM, also respectively.

Just speculation.
