Vapourware Scam Citizen - Only people with too much money can become StarCitizens! WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE?

Since even some smaller ships require more NPCs or team mates to operate them, i dont see why that wouldn't be the case on a corvette too.

Could be great fun if done properly.

The new website and 24-hour livestream kick off in five hours, with the Avenger to be revealed and sold, and perhaps other ships as well... the wait is almost over. I'm in tears.

I really don't get the masturbation over the most obviously Pay2Win game in the fucking universe.
Buy virtual ships for $300? What the fuck and why are people jerking off over this and happily lining this assholes pockets?
What am I missing? This seems worse than Hat Simulator 2 in any way, at least there it barely has gameplay influence.

What you are missing that it is not pay2win and it seems that you don't know shit about the game.

As a mostly uninterested observer, my theory is that there's hundreds of thousands of people out there looking for some kind of fancier replacement for EVE Online, a type of MMO that nobody else in the industry is willing to create. They've found Star Citizen.

"It's not Pay2Win, I swear!"

"Pay $150 for Virtual spaceship: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/gladiator "
"Pay $250 for Virtual spaceship: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/retaliator "
"Pay $225 for Virtual spaceship: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/constellation https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/caterpillar "

"But you'll be able to play the game normally and compete with everyone putting down hundreds and thousands of dollars for Virtual spaceships, honest!"

Then there's that "insurance policy" scam thing too that they've extracted from EVE.

How the fuck is this not Pay2Win, are you people brain damaged?

Dexter I believe the standard definition of "Pay2Win", typically in the context of casual games, is the requirement for regular/frequent investment via micropayments in order to advance. Buying a ship is more like buying a big DLC. Yeah, you pay money for something that makes you stronger (how much stronger?), but it's a one time thing.

I assume you can buy those spaceship with ingame money. If you want to burn money to get them faster, it's your choice. But I summon Blaine to clarify.

I'm not getting into this again.

If someone wants to argue (yet again), they can go back through the thread and see where I stand on the issue.

I might write a wall-o'-text later, but I'm enjoying the livestream right now.

Ok, I've found your quote I've been looking for:
Yes, the Corvette (and indeed all pledge ships) can be purchased in-game for credits rather than pledged for
That settles it. As I thought, it is not pay2win. It would be pay to win, if you could by better equipment, which are not available for purchase for ingame money. By buying a ship with real money, you get a short term adventage in PVP after release, but that's it.

I can't believe how ambitious this game is. You can count on me, to buy it after release, even if it is not perfect, but they manage to pull off most of the stuff they promise.

Multiple people manning a single ship is the thing I'm probably most excited about. Could see it being ridiculously hard to pull off well so everyone has fun, but if they manage to do it it'll be cool as hell. And since there are no character stats or skills like you mentioned earlier you won't end up in situations where one person is specced shields and another is specced weapons, so people can change stations as they get bored/figure out what they like doing.

Only problem (If everything works and is fun that is) is who knows how long it'll take to reach a ship that can handle multiple people in-game without preordering.

Too much airplane,... too little spaceship.

You do know these ships will be making planetfall and landing in spaceports, right? Meaning they'll be flying through atmosphere?

In other news, Richard "Lord Yiddish" Garriott was briefly on the livestream, though they're having technical difficulties patching him through:

It probably is able to fly in the atmosphere and in space. But I agree that it is closer to a simple airplane than to an X-wing

Is every ship going to be capable of planetfall or will there be space only designs, either fighters which are designed to land on a carrier only or capital ships which are designed to have supplies ferried to them?
