Well, that's certainly a prime example of what you have to deal with with Star Citizen Cultists. This certainly adds weight to my theory that Perkel is potentially legitimately mentally retarded.
Potentially? Any doctor reading his posts would feel confident in posing a conclusive diagnosis without even meeting him in real life. It's how bad the illness seeps.

I mean could Star Citizen even categorized as "gambling"? These stupid people literally buy JPEG or GIF and don't even get the file. They are buying promises that they will be given those 3D model in game when the game is ready.

Star Citizen is on snake oil salesman category.

They are making donations as a thank you to the developers and for further development. And as a thank you from the generous developers they might get a digital ingame ship once the game is completed. There are no promises.

Yes, exactly. The donations are made just because people want to fund the game, them deciding to spend 2500 dollars to help fund the development, which coincides with a new concept ship being promised to those that wire 2500 dollars to CIG is just that - a coincidence.

Well, consider the various perks and displays of their "status" the casinos do for their "high rollers" (side note here that "high roller" is also a part of this as a term for them, and they've put a lot of work into giving it that kind of veneer of prestige; behind closed doors the word is "whale" since all it's really for is suckering massive amounts of money from one mark). This is basically what those JPEGs and GIFs use to target vulnerable people.

I don't mean that it's literally gambling, I mean they target the same impulses and use similar methodology as the gambling industry does. I would rather ask, how are casinos all that different from snake oil salesmen?

Gambling or casino whole schtick is about chance. You will have chance to win this you will have chance to win that. While indeed Casino might give badges to their big spender, it is not why gambling and its exploitation exist. People are not addicted to the status of high roller. They are addicted to that high you get from "beating the odds." Thats why gambling exist virtually from your local market in Africa to Las Vegas and, in the past 5 years or so, video games.

Snake oil salesman like Star Citizen, they prey something on more basis level. They understand that some people want something (curing cancer, get taller, bigger dick, immersive space sim) and they promise that their product is *the* product to fulfill that need. And then they prey on the people sunk cost falacy by saying "just a little bit more before you got your big dick what a waste to stop now" while also saying "when you get big dick you will be the pioneer of big dick future, you are changing mankind forever" to stroke the victim ego.

From what I've talked with people with gambling problems, it really seems to me that it's the promise (after all, every casino or internet slot machine ever will loudly say "WIN BIG" or equivalent) of wants and fullfilment. Thrill also plays into it, but to me I feel that it's the same type of vulnerabilities (not necessarily the exact same, but in the same type) that the two prey on and why I think their methods follow the same guidelines ("WIN BIG next play!" and as you put it quite well and amusingly "get big dick!").

The thing with high rollers and whales is that since games of chance at a casino are statistically rigged in a manner that's in a way artistic (after all, it's a requisite for them as a business), the point in all the high roller perks is to get the mark to shell out massive amounts of cash, even if they really couldn't afford it to, since it's all about loosening up those pursestrings.

You're actually witnessing spaceship reproduction attempts. A spaceship fires its load and the little payloads attempt to penetrate their target to create a new spaceship sale.

Alas, this attempt was unsuccessful.

I like how those dopamine videos are slow ponderous fly-bys, model showcases and editor timelapses. Looks very nice.

And then you look at the actual gameplay of the current build and welp uhh, haha, there's thrm people bouncing around the elevator and the missiles playing grab-ass with each other.

This is fine.

The actual problem with Star Citizen I have is that it plays like ass.

I mean the parts that work. Combat feels crap. Movement is crap. Oh god so much motion blur. And even the FPS parts feel in the league of Carrier Command: Gaea Mission (another disappointment)

I only have about $200 riding on Star Citizen as nearly a fourth year backer... But damn. I don't even think I'd like the game if it ever were to ship.

Considering a refund, as it's not just a scam, but turning into an overall bad game by design. Meaning I really only have to lose.

Still relevant!
