That's p. damn cool. I wonder how many space credits would Roberts want for Vanduul playable characters.

Not gonna happen. Roberts has stated that, from players' perspectives, the Vanduul can't be interacted or traded with—though mechanically/lore-wise, they do trade with the Banu. I'm sure they'll be visibly/audibly present, via comm chatter, during boarding actions of course, and especially during Squadron 42.

That said, I don't think playable xenos are entirely off the table for later on after release. Who wouldn't want to play as this smoking-hot turtlette? Just look at that reptilian underboob. Turtletits. Tittles.

I thought it was said that it would be possible to gain rep with them, somehow? How else would you be able to acquire the vanduul scythe etc. in-game - capture only?

Because I'd be totally down with aligning myself with hostile aliens, betraying humanity for fun and profit.

Vanduul ships can indeed only be captured, and won't be purchasable from any source beyond players trading captured ships amongst themselves.

The Vanduul don't want their proud warships in the hands of sniveling little monkey creatures, or any race other than the Vanduul for that matter.

Well, the CIG forums became a goldmine yesterday. Someone wrote a fake post citing Ben Lesnick saying that limited-quantity ships (Scythe, Idris) would be for sale again before the original backer LTI cutoff. Some of the ensuing shitstorm has been deleted, but plenty remains. There were a couple of bannings, and as you can see by comparing the thread URL below to the original post in said thread, [EDIT: Apparently the member did that himself as a form of damage control in hopes he wouldn't get the hammer, far too late obviously, and as it didn't occur to me that anyone would resort to such a futile and naive course of action, I jumped to the wrong conclusion] some overzealous moderators appear to have gone as far as changing the title of the thread and content of the OP to something innocuous.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...ythe-and-idris-sale-confirmed-for-november/p1

Also, Ben Lesnick appears to have gone on a rulemaking spree in the aftermath of the shitstorm: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/71135/new-forum-rules-for-public-comment/p1

The original text of the thread's OP and some of the best tears can be seen in this post, just a few posts after the OP and which the moderators inexplicably failed to remove despite censoring the OP and thread title:

No, I don't post or talk about the Codex anywhere outside of the Codex. I'm too ashamed, naturally. I'd be interested to see it if you don't mind PMing me, though.

Eh, I'll just quote it here (without quoting that person's actual email address though):

Hello ,

My name is Paula , I am your fellow Star Citizen backer [seriously??], and just like you I’m super excited about Star Citizen achieving $23M goal and unlocking Xi’an Scout! CR is on his way to make another amazing epic, which I can’t wait to come out.

I am reaching out to you because there is another amazing game on Kickstarter called SKYJACKER. Please check it out: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitilus/skyjacker-space-combat-sim/

SKYJACKER was recently featured in PCGamer as top 14 space games to be excited about: http://www.pcgamer.com/gallery/14-space-games-you-should-be-excited-about-right-now/skyjacker/.

There are 23 days to go to make another epic space game a reality. The team is asking for $150K on Kickstarter and they have lots of things to show for it.

I urge you to join me and become a backer of SKYJACKER. This game deserves to be made! Please help me spread the word, and let’s see SKYJACKER reach the goal!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me!

If that kind of message isn't your fault, then I dunno why Paula'd even contact us in the first place.

That's not Star Citizen spam. That's Skyjacker spam. It failed its Kickstarter once, and probably will again.

As for how they knew to spam the Codex, Google's web crawlers have no doubt made the fact that Star Citizen is discussed on the Codex public knowledge to those who'd be looking into good sites they can spam with Skyjacker plugs.

Enhanced Capital Ship Systems – In addition to the command and control systems we’ve already outlined, we’re going to expand capital ship functions! Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering, that will make commanding a capital ship feel even more immersive.

In honor of this goal, I’d like to share the very first in-engine shots of the Idris corvette’s interior, showing the hangar bay and engine room. The design team is very eager to get to work on expanding capital ship interactivity; we have some new ideas about how to make crews interesting and
can’t wait to try them out.

For the $28 million stretch goal, we have something we’re very excited about here at Cloud Imperium: a second option for your Star Citizen starter ship! Here’s the goal:

New Starter Ship – The team at Consolidated Outland has decided to take Roberts Space Industries head on in 2944 by premiering the Mustang personal spacecraft. We will use these additional resources to create another ship company and starter ship for Star Citizen. The new ship will be offered for sale alongside the Aurora, so players have a choice between two options to begin the game!

I'm still baffled how they keep on getting millions and millions in crowd-funded eh... funds. How much does an MMO cost to develope nowadays?

I'm also really surprised that they've raised this much. Apparently, there really are just that many people late to the party. Part of it is backers raising their pledge amount, but according to figures released by CIG some time ago, the majority are new backers.

Just goes to show how the people making decisions at big publishers don't really know shit. People have been starved for this kind of game for so long.

Yeah, I really hunger for some new space sim goodness for a long time. Hopefully X Rebirth satisfy us for some time.
