Your character has space cancer? Dude's noggin is smoother than a baby's butt.

They haven't implemented space pompadours in the hangar module yet, but it exists in the trailer now so I assume hair will be along shortly.

Hm, so we can abduct players. Neat.

Possibly. Live capture may be for NPC-generated bounty hunting missions (with NPC targets), because I doubt a mechanic allowing one player to trap another player in an un-fun situation for potentially hours at a stretch will be viable. After all, the victim could just log off. There could however be a 10- to 15-minute time limit for the bounty hunter, or perhaps "capturing" a player might create an automated "copy" of their avatar, whilst the real player gets shunted back to his or her nearest hangar. Failure to deliver this "clone" (if the bounty hunter gets blown up on the way back, for instance) would mean a reduction or forfeiture of the bounty. This would also neatly solve the issue with trapping players/your target simply logging out.

Yeah true, will be sure to look up how bounty hunting will work - as with a lot of other stuff, am rather lapse in my following of this, heh. Would be nice if the lockdown was imperfect - so the guy might get free if you dick around too long or something.

I agree with Blaine that it is not viable to give players the ability to trap or imprison other players for any period of time longer than a few seconds. That is a no-no in MMOs. I think his idea of carrying an NPC copy back to prison is a good idea. The real player who was caught will perhaps just be sent down to his or her starting planet automatically with some sort of legal fee he has to pay or he can choose to fight his way off the planet. Meanwhile the bounty hunter will get his full payment when he returns the NPC copy to the proper authorities.

The problem with that is, what if the bounty target's buddies come try and rescue the NPC copy? If they succeed how would that affect the real bounty target? Perhaps he already paid his legal fees... do they just get re credited into his account or something? If he tried fighting his way off and died, is that just erased? I wouldn't think so.

What do I have to do, tell me the details.

You need to gift me your existing package, via an email address I'll PM to you in a moment. To do this, find the ship in your Hangar on the RSI website and click the "Gift" button, then enter said email address. Once I receive the gift, I'll exchange it for store credit, then use that credit to purchase a new package that's otherwise identical except it'll have LTI and will be cheaper (I can reimburse the difference in the form of $5 skins, or if you're the one who has the 300i and wants to upgrade slightly to the Avenger, I should be able to do that for you). I then gift that new package back to you via an email address you provide, ideally the one attached to your RSI account.

Blaine upgraded my 300i to the Avenger, thanks man. I even have 2000 UEC starting money now.

Blaine, can you post high-res versions of those screens? I need them for, uh, research.

I resized the source images so they wouldn't bloat the thread too much, but I can take more later.

In the meantime, I made this, and will soon be embarking on my Star Citizen spoof .gif career:

You originally had the Digital Bounty Hunter package, with 300i? I'm totally stumped with these choices, it would be kinda cool to start with the shittiest ship of them all, but not when everyone else has some Mk. IX Star Destroyer to rape you with.

FYI, anyone else still on the fence - the remaining alpha slots are going fast. Last time I checked there were still 5,500+ and now it's less than 4,000.

nono, starting ships make no difference and aren't pay to win

blaine said so

do you doubt him?

starting with ships is basically an institutionalized cheat code... i for one outgrew writing POWER OVERWHELMING to complete the star craft campaign...

Of course they are, to a degree. I don't doubt them when they say they're going for the rock-paper-scissors approach when it comes to balance.

My new package shows alpha access, pretty sure my 300i Bounty Hunter package didn't have it.

Probablly overlooked it. It's baffling they got so much money, and keep getting more. People want a decent space game it seems.

config pls

What, my computer specs? GTX 780, overclocked i5 2500k, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Crucial RealSSD, Win7 64-bit, DX 11, 1920 x 1080 monitor. It runs the hangar module smoothly at max graphics, for now.

This old calculator will need replacing sometime later on in 2014.

Will the POV be always within the cockpit or 3rd person god camera? (For either seat)

There's been a great deal of contention about this on the official forums, spawning hundred-page-long threadnaughts and plenty of shit-flinging.

Fortunately, we received a pure incline official answer some time ago: There will be a third-person camera, but it will be for aesthetic purposes (screenshots and videos, admiring your ship, etc.) only. HUD elements such as the radar, weapon and shield status, targeting reticule, and so on will not be present in third-person, ergo it won't be a viable way to engage in combat.

For much the same reason, I hope they don't go out of their way to tailor the controls to mouse-waving.

As a spaceship simulator, in-cockpit camera should be the primary focus. Good to hear that they develop it this way. 3rd person is for popamoles. :smug:

The main problem is that third-person cameras with proper HUD elements would be tactically superior to in-cockpit cameras, since there's no cockpit obscuring your field of view in third-person, and you're "zoomed out" a little bit more.

Thus, to remain competitive, everyone would feel compelled to use the third-person camera. Anyone who doesn't understand why that's bad should be shot in the face.

No your game config. The game looks like fucking rubbish by default. I've tried some config tweaks and they make it look a little better.

Blaine: Is this a good tier and can you upgrade it too?

What about the Arbiter package?

Either are fine. The vanilla 300i has basic stock weapons and upgrades, while the 325a is preconfigured with additional offensive capability, but is by no means "maxed out." Personally, if I were only going to choose one 300i package, I'd choose the Pathfinder package (315p). It comes with a stock jump drive, long-range capability (efficient engines, beefy power plant, bunk bed for logging off in space [not a fan of that mechanic personally, but eh]), and sensors useful for exploration. You'd have to reconfigure it to be a dedicated combat vessel, but I plan to do lots of exploring first and foremost when the game goes live.

There's also an Avenger pledge package, which CIG have stupidly failed to list alongside the other packages under Game Packages > New Backers. It is listed under the Ships heading, but I think a lot of people are missing it. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/avenger

The Avenger is fairly similar to the 300i, with more cargo space but no luxury bunk beds. It's slightly more expensive than the default 300i.

Jump Point 11 released and it seems to have some info about the Freelancer, is it anything worthy, Blaine?

Yeah, it's about the Freelancer... yay. I'm so excited. I bet you can just tell how excited I am.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/sgpngg3uy2jqsr/source/JumpPoint_01-11_Oct_13_Born-Free.pdf

It looks like an ugly metal dick, its armament is comparable to a heavy fighter's except that it's larger, slower, and less maneuverable, etc. Still, those are personal biases based on looks (people actually voted in favor of that look) and preliminary ship stats.

No your game config. The game looks like fucking rubbish by default. I've tried some config tweaks and they make it look a little better.

Maxed out using the in-game Graphics menu. It's just a pre-alpha model viewer, so I'm not fussed about tweaking the graphics, but feel free to share if you have some tweaking tips. I might go on a screenshot spree at some point.
