Finished The Last Guardian. Easily the weakest of the Ueda trilogy, but still good.

Also, one of the few games that sizes subtitles adequately. Most subs in games are teeny, which makes more sense in a PC game viewed on a monitor.

And there is no BFG. Instead, you get the Cluster Bomb Launcher which shares ammo with the RL (5 rockets per shot). It does exactly what the name suggests. And it is powerful. But you need to keep a good distance.

The maps are fairly big with hundreds of monsters and lots of hitscan. The new weapons are cool. Problem is that they replace the Plasma and the BFG. This means that every useful weapon against big groups of enemies can also hurt you, which does become a problem later in maps 06 and 07. When you get cornered you can no longer break through with Plasma or BFG. The only option then is the Flamethrower which hurts a lot.

Man, what a ride Death end re;Quest has been. Just finished it and got the true ending. Shina's ending is the real deal. Such a splendid and enjoyable game. Not that long though, only took me about 64 hours to finish. Still, amazing game.

So the game randomly chooses a character ending after you beat the final boss. I was hoping to get Shina's as that one is the absolute best ending, but unfortunately I got the titty elf's ending. The Russian Japanese mutt Svetlana Amou. New Game+ allows you to choose character endings. Not a big fan of that, but, whatever, rushing through NG+ was pretty quick.

Since I've never completed Sigil, Master Levels, TNT, and Plutonia all the way through, I used WadSmoosh to combine all the official releases into one .pk3 file and go through all of them. Plutonia should be a culmination of this run, and a butt-clenching experience.

Using GZDoom tweaked to look more like vanilla (no decals, classic transparency, software sector light etc.) + retroshader.pk3 (for the chunky look) + cblood.pk3 (so that cacodemons have blue blood, without replacing the actors) + doom_wide.wad (widescreen status bar). UV difficulty.

I don't get why people cling to GZdoom(GarbageZoomerdoom) for god's sake it has texture filtering enabled by default and bunch other disgusting "features".
Start using choclate doom or it's fork crispy doom if you aim for vanilla look and don't happen to have old machine around to play the game.
Don't forget about good roland-imitating soundfonts you can easily emulate, or just use music files from here:

For me, it's mostly a habit. It was the first one I tried, everything you throw at it works and it's very customizable. Also, I'm using a 144hz monitor and most other ports feel kinda sluggish compared to this one. Once you go high refresh rate, there's not turning back, at least for FPS games.

By the way, any recommendations for a Roland imitating soundfont?

I found a soundfont called "Patch93's SC-55," it sounds great so far. It's interesting that Nerve used recordings from a real SC-55 in the Unity port on Steam, but it's not looping correctly and the port itself is kinda shitty.

Patch93's soundfont was assembled and tweaked largely for Doom, I think, so it sounds fairly good with those games. Still, the SC VA (with the SC-55 map) has much better depth and balance:



Those SC-55 recordings from Duke4.net do work with multiple source ports and they have correct loop points.

I'm really conflicted, when it comes to this part of the series. The beginning is great, there isn't much ammo scattered around. There aren't many locations, which makes the game more cameral, and closer to the original. But at certain point, I felt that there is too much fighting, and there isn't much variety, when it comes to monsters. And with that, the fighting system shows us, that it isn't polished enough to be really satisfying. Jack Backer and his family was more than enough for me, when it comes to boss fights. There are some minor connections with the main series, but for me, RE was never meant for FPS gameplay, especially the main serie. Chris Redfield also looks too clean for me, and Capcom as usual doesn't keep consistency when it comes to the look of main characters. The DLC "Not a Hero" is a must play, since it's the only way to reach a proper conclusion for the whole plot (it has a horrible ending fight). The Rengine works great, and each place feels really organic and lifelike. Apart from the save room theme, I don't remember much from the soundtrack. Maybe I wouldn't be so harsh, if it was some spin-off, where Capcom tries to experiment and try new things, incorporating some of the elements later into the main part, but that's water under the bridge.

Death end re;Quest 2. The novel that explains what happened between 1 and 2 is extremely edgy to the point where it feels like torture/despair porn. Well, the game's edgy too, but not that edgy. Also, panties, haha!
