There's a spell in Devil's Spire that lets you conjure up random junk, some items, but mostly just literal junk which can be used to upgrade your spells and gear. I got a ring that lets me turn stuff I throw away into gold. The statue in the background will replenish your health and mana for enough donations.
So I sat there empowering the spell and upgrading my gear for about twenty minutes.

Sorry, long post.

A series of Halloween-themed maps made by Grain of Salt and Ribbiks. Yes, I'm late. Didn't have time during Halloween.

The main event is this big map by Ribbiks. Best enjoyed on HMP, or else you may run into hopeless situations like I did.

This fight on UV is impossible (for me) without the BFG which I didn't have the first time I got here. And once you're in, you can't get out. Learned it the hard way.

A new gimmick: Purple walls that reflect projectiles, mainly used with Cyberdemons. Here you have to redirect the rockets into AVs for a big infighting party.

06tkebu.jpg

Or shoot 100 of your own rockets into the walls and make them bounce back and forth to create a trap for the incoming AV wave.

Once again, there is a big Ribbiks map at the end.

Some small bonus puzzle maps.

Another new gimmick: Explosive green meteors as an environmental hazard, which are also used in JUMPWAD.

Grain of Salt's maps don't really do it for me. Very low detail. Simple combat.

You can have to use the green meteors to your advantage.

There is also yet another new gimmick in this chapter: Upgraded Arachnotrons that shoot way more projectiles than usual, with a random spread.
Enter this final arena.

Spooky map. I'm not going to spoil it.

Final map is provided by danne this time. A small map with lots of skeletons.

I've discovered a cool feature that allows you to freeze the game but still move around. I'm supposed to be inside the flames. Look at this!
Danne, why?!

What's this about?

Reminder: Nightmare difficulty is like UV but with fast and respawning monsters, and you get twice as much ammo. Enemies will always shoot you on sight non-stop (until you break los), projectiles are twice as fast, and Pinkies move and bite twice as fast.
These maps are designed exclusively for Nightmare. If you choose lower difficulties, all monsters are removed, and you can explore the map to familiarize yourself with the layout. They are also short and replayable.

Helpful.

Turbo Pinkies.

Here is an interesting use of the 667 tag. Everytime the Arachnotron dies, the arena rises one step. After killing it 3 times, you'll be able to reach the exit. And while you are waiting for the random respawn timer to expire...

094aics.jpg

... this happens. And it gets worse each time.

Continuing where I left off with episode 3, maps 21-23 are, thankfully, a bit on the easy side. NERF was also a good warm-up, because now UV feels like slow motion. But the effect wears off quickly.

04n5f2u.png

Map 24 is one of those big maps I was afraid of. But ... it turns out, it's not so bad? All those big arena setpieces are manageable. It's the small skirmishes, before you even get to the meat of the map, that have given me so much trouble. I must have died at least 10 times in the beginning area. But once I made it past, I beat the map.

053xiog.png

I'm using the secret invuln for this part.

06fcego.png

The AV disco should be a formality. But I slipped, got hit by 3 AVs at once, and almost died 30 minutes into the map.

08a8ccr.png

The crusher fight at the end sends 1160 enemies into the arena. Its bark is worse than its bite. Bring a few extra cells for the BFG, and this is the easiest part of the map. No reason to die here, except nerves.
This also marks the beginning of the "green hell" maps.

11oyedc.png

Map 25 is one of my favorites, but this part is annoying. Each Baron blocks an AV teleporter. So ideally, you'd want to deal with each of them one by one, if it weren't for the Cyberdemon.

10i4eux.png

thisisfine.jpg

09sbiho.png

The best part.

12btemz.png

Maps 26 and 27 are a bit easier again. The calm before the storm.

13drdr7.png

157acvi.png

Cramped spaces with Hell Knights.

17l3fw7.png

Me and my best buddy, the Spiderdemon.

1888fek.png

Cool.
Only 3 maps left. But I remember those are all long and grindy. I need to be in the right mood to even make an attempt, and I doubt I will finish them this year.
