Yes, the game is most fun when you just run around doing random stuff shooting at everything. Playing it the way it is designed it's incredibly boring but I too had fun for an hour or two by just messing with the different vehicles and other players

I enjoyed it, which is why I say it's underrated. The first couple islands are nice and large and the colonial setting and gunplay are interesting for an RPG. It really falls apart with corridor islands later on though.

Well i'm 15 hours in, and so far so good. And i actually did not mind Risen 1's end chapter, so Risen 2's corridor islands may not be much of an issue.

Depends on expectations I guess. The first couple islands were big enough for me assuming there were 4 or 5 more that size to come. Ends up there aren't, you've seen the big open world stuff already. So whether that bothers you or not is yours to decide.
