My brother had bought this on Steam back in 2011, but I never had a big interest in it.
Until I saw this video in October/November:
I was hit, by a sudden hype to play this. Specially since I had recently finished my 1st playtrough of Severance and DMC3, and was still looking for more hack & slash fun.
The main menu is simplistic and accompanied by a moody OST.
Small nitpick however, is that the character here should've been Serath (the main character) instead of this random enemy.
First chapter, Dungeon Crawling goodness. Even if the level design is very linear, the artstyle and environment, is cool and unique enough to compensate (plus it's still the tutorial).
As you can see I had quite a lot of fun with these boys (no homo).
It was at this point I realized the levels were chock full of secrets - and how I simply love that.
Most say the Island chapters (5-7) were my favorite part of the game. Excellent dungeon crawling experience.
This part pissed of at the first few tries, because that annoying
useless girl always ended up getting killed or spotted. But then I discovered that if I clicked E (interact button) I could tell her to stay put/follow me.
Xenomorph Dragon?
To be, or not to be... Not to be.
This house had near the furthest barrel a pretty good weapon. The problem is that if I moved too fast or went near the barrel, the house would collapse.
Pretty nice puzzle.
This orc chieftain was like any other orc enemy, only with more HP and did more damage - so he could break your guard and even lift me up and throwing me back (like it can be seen in the next image). Still it was a nice boss, since the last hour had been killing orcs/goblins, so you were expected to know how to properly fight orcs.
One nice detail was that if the player used magic, the other orcs would join the fight, and if you didn't they would grant you safe passage. One problem with this detail tough was if weren't playing the warrior type, this wouldn't exactly be fair for the player.
Another problem was that the fight began when he stopped talking to the player, and given the short distance between him and the player plus the place were the player was, the Boss gets pretty much a free hit in beginning of the fight.
Strolling around undead infested sewers is an experience every man should have at least once in his life.
This also was a cool boss. Not only does the Litch resurrect a small militia of undead, but he also covers the room in fog. The key is to attack only him, because when he dies, so do his minions.
However unlike the Litch, the challenge to obtain the Skull of Shadows seen in this next image is very very weak and low effort. When the player enters this room a voice says the player needs to prove their worth, and then it just keeps spawning a bunch of small to medium spiders... Good job...
Even tough they were a gimmick, and too easy to successfully complete, I did enjoy these forging mini-game.
Not even hiding behind the rocks is safe. But it gets you a free eye hit.
And the head really is the place you need to attack because his skin is very thick.
Fuck this bitch...
Noice...
Leaving the island, I was struck by a powerful desire that Arkane made an Arx 2 with this game's gameplay...
Fortunately we'll have Monomyth.
Yup, they deserve to die...
Enough is enough! I've had it with these motherfucking spiders, in this motherfucking game.
Well, in hindsight it wasn't that bad...
Asking for mercy won't save you...
(Someone should make a meme out of this)
