Paper Sorcerer
I had a great time with this game, although at first I wasn't expecting it to be so addictive. Starting from a zero point with a sorcerer character, choosing thralls to help me in my quest... This is were things are getting interesting and we can experiment during our dungeon adventures. I've summoned Werewolf, Shadow and Vampire for my first group and later on added Skeleton, Minotaur and Abomination.
After a while the core team that I was sticking for the most of the adventure was Vampire, Skeleton, Minotaur. The Vampire is a very versatile character, that can fight well and has some good healing, resurrecting and supporting spells. He is also an excellent fighter. Skeleton was the one who took most of the beating thanks to his challenge skill and high defence stats to be a bait. He is also a good warrior, if we find a good sword for him and can use heavy armor. Abomination's role is rather similar, so I decided to use him in another playthrough. Minotaur is a total beast, excellent fighter with powerful AOE skills and I had a lot of luck finding some powerful axes during my journey.
The sorcerer can specialise later on, either being Arch magus or Knight magus. I've tried the first option and it was really fun, to have all that spells available and experiment on filthy elven mages, samurais fighters and bosses. Knight magus is a sort of a hybrid between fighter and cast speller, I need to try him out as well to see how it plays at the endgame parts. Which can be really tough, with high level mixed groups nuking you in a two rounds without no problem. Plus two surprise groups of
resurrected bosses (especially the second team, fuuuu...)
There are some problems, like for example you can't use 'esc' button to exit submenus instantly without clicking on "back" every time. Considering it is a dungeon crawler concentrated mainly on fighting groups of enemies it would be a time saver. Also, a minimap would be helpful, especially in the later segments. Some spelling errors here and there, plus occasionally the graphics would glitch when I have returned to town. Once the menu in town wasn't visible and I had to use alt+F4 to load my savegame.
Also the randomness of loot is a curse and a blessing at the same time. You can find great powerful weapons and armors, but luck is not always on your side. Usually I just reloaded a couple of times if I found a chest after some harder fight or found a secret room(s). My advice is to seek the secrets as much as possible, most of the best gear that I've used was kept there. Most of the puzzles are really simple and they shouldn't be too difficult. I've never bought any weapon or armor/ring/rune from the shop and was using it to sell my old junk and treasures to have more money for training skills (we can find some scrolls which improve permanently the stats as well).
But overall despite afromentioned problems this I really liked the whole game. Very nice art design, excellent soundtrack and looting/selling/finding secrets never feels boring and PS is one of those 'compact' titles that aren't big, and it is a good thing. You know what to expect, but with different new summons you can try and test new things and see how it goes.
