Btw how many of you figured out the trick with Armored Warrior, without watching or reading any press events or previews?

l tried killing him several times, burning him throwing ash at him, confettiing him... Then I ran around the world talking to everyone but found no hint. Finally I had to read a guide. It would NEVER occur to me you have to do the trick coz that's never a thing anywhere else in the game. Eh.
One of my failed deathblows gave a line like "you'll not throw ME off!" or something to that effect so that was that.

So far there was only one miniboss that I did on first try - the one right before Genichiro. Every single rest of these motherfuckers took at least 10+ tries, many of them even 20-30+. I mean, I still think this is a very good game but goddamn if it also doesn't start to feel like more work than fun sometimes. I thought that after becoming a parry fag my progress would go much faster. And yet I'm still dying like crazy, because I just can't concentrate on doing every move perfectly for too long a time. And these fights do take long, at least the way I play it. Guess I need a couple days break and try more varied approaches after. I know I suck at the game when Starcraft II PvP feels super relaxing compared.

Jeez this game. Finish one hard boss (owl) and then immediately another.

Bosses were always my least favourite part of fromsofts games, and this game sometimes feels like a bossrush.

This. Exploration, secrets, itemization, level design, that's my jam. I like FS combat and bosses, for the most part, but that's not the main reason I play their games.

I feel like Sekiro has been specifically tailored for the combatfag part of the Souls community. For people who don't bother with admiring the lore, level design, items, NPCs etc., who just rush through the parts of the game in between bosses and then play mostly PvP. For those who complain about "gimmick bosses". And who like to parry a lot.

But I still love Sekiro. If only for them feelz when you enter the Fountainhead Palace area for the first time.

I entered it and felt only disappointment so far, since it was just another boss (with the same moveset as a previous one, but this time with more than twice as much health, GOTY!).

No I mean when you beat her and then stand looking over the Palace. A great view.

Btw watching speedruns is so much fun. How those motherfuckers figure some of the things is beyond me. Just watched a dude doing a Bull skip by bouncing off some foliage. Another one is to jump from the place where you kill the snake and die of poison mid-flight. That way you land on the ground deep below but you can resurrect :D

Anyone here played Bayonetta? It's 5 bucks on Steam rn. I was never drawn to these purely action games but now that I love Sekiro is it comparable fun?

It's very fun but if you're weary of QTEs it can get on your nerves, especially in boss fights during key moments. They're very button mash intensive.

Bayonetta is awesome, quite frankly I think the reason I am not able to enjoy Sekiro is because I am a huge fan of spectacle fighters like Bayonetta, God Hand, and Metal Gear: Revengeance. Sekiro feels like an overly simplified version of those without the spectacle and with limited ways to approach fights.

At $5 you can't go wrong. The only downside in comparison is that the games are much shorter than Sekiro. But on the upside, even when you're dying, the game is quite fair and you always know what you did wrong.

I prefer DMC games to Bayonetta. Although it's obviously still highly regarded among spectacle fighter fans. I guess I will be giving it another go eventually. First time didn't grab me.

Some more thoughts on the game.. my first views on the game exploration were initially positive. I liked how there were so many ways to do things, and many areas you can start exploring from the beginning of the game. But after a few tens of hours of playing..
This game exploration is junk. There's not a iota of tension because of your mobility which vastly outpaces any enemy bar possibly those guys who throw flying stuff at you, idols are always near and regular enemies aren't that threatening, just annoying to deal with when in groups. And then there's not a whole lot of unique rewards, a few, but nothing that ever makes you glad for it.
The lack of boundaries like how you don't really die if your hp is full when you fall into the void or extreme falls. The environment isn't part of a threat anymore. I laughed at the lack of creativity in bringing poison swamps again but this time they don't even mean anything, nothing means anything, this game's environments could be anything because nothing matters.

And then there's the immense amount of reuse of locales.. return to a place and find a new boss sitting there instead of having his own context. And I remember when we all complained that games like DS1 had multiple asylum demon encounters or DS2 recycling old and new content but Sekiro does it to such a high cadence, it feels like a rushed game where they came up with a few unique ideas and then padded it hard copy paste style. They even make you retraverse the entirety of ashina castle area once more with just a few change in enemies, removing all your unlocked idols until you go back to every one of them once again.
I guess content reuse is still more palatable than ending with areas like Demon's Ruins in DS1, but eh.

Some may kneejerk answer back "this is tenchu inspired, it's not a souls game" but it's hard to see it. Tenchu are stealth focused games with a mission based structure rating you for your performance during the mission.

And the combat has its differences with souls being far more parry heavy and requiring the use of more type of evasions than just the dodge but elements like the way the input queue works still screams souls so much (skills like Ichimonji Double are amazingly powerful but can only really be used once you know an enemy pattern by heart because of the way this game handles input and how there's only a few specific things that can be cancelled. I felt the same way about many weapon arts in Dark Souls 3.). It's a pure twitch action game.. with the baggage of souls type input, which I'm really not fond of with this level of engagement.

It's all too bad because they really upped the ante of quality level design in Bloodborne but Sekiro's mechanics wouldn't allow them to recreate that sort of experience. In particular the apex that was the woods, making the player feel utterly lost for directions. A BB2 or something similar would have been a more productive use of From's devs time than making something like.. this.

Overall the only thing of interest in the game is the enjoyment felt in many of the 1vs1 notable (mini and true bosses) encounters. I haven't liked all bosses/minibosses but this still kept my interest and I might keep playing till the end. Not gonna NG+ though and definitely going to uninstall once done. They even managed to outdo themselves on the idiocy of puzzle type bosses in the series, the 4 monkeys managed to defeat bed of bullshit.

It's not a horrible game. There's quite a few likable things about it. Won't even keep my attention as much as DS3 did though, and I considered DS3 the dullest of the series, saved solely by, just like Sekiro, its grandiose boss fights. And toying with new builds while meeting them again.

From is at its best when they make atmospheric set pieces too. Sekiro didn't particularly engage me there. Even when they try to get creepy like the village behind corrupted monk, it didn't do much for me. Heck, basket dude was basically comic relief.

So.. I finally manage to take down both health bars of Genichiro.. Felt so great for a second there. And them bam, fuck you faggot, here have LIGHTNING GENICHIRO! No, fuck off with this shit already. I am using a trainer to increase my attack power a couple points or something. This is madness. I wanna see all of the game but fuck if I'm gonna keep taking it up the ass from Faggotzaki.

Curious you say that, because what spoiled Sekiro for me was For Honor and it's realistic combat. So it seems Sekiro occupies a strange niche - it's not frenetic enough for the Bayonetta and Revengeance fans, and also not realistic enough for the For Honor fans.

Other than his lightning attacks, third phase Genichiro felt the easiest to figure out. It only took a good minute to really learn it simply because I didn't consistently always get to his third phase every time I fought him, but once I did, you realize there's only a few new attacks and the only ones that require any real caution against are his lightning based attacks. Out of the those, there's only really 1 lightning attack that's really hard to dodge; the other two are easier to see coming and avoid.

Progress-wise, I've finally made it to Mibu Village and faced O'Rin of the Water. Compared to before, it takes me far less tries to beat the bosses and mini-bosses now. The second encounter with the Headless Ape where he has a friend pop up? Took me 3 tries.

So far I've only avoided the Headless dudes because I don't have enough divine confetti for them.

People here laughing at game journos demanding an easy mode for the game yet at the same time in this very thread there are people that are unable to beat bosses without trainers. Amazing.

I will keep laughing at them. Idiots begging game devs for ez mode when they can just use a trainer. Hilarious!

His 3rd phase is the easiest one because of Lightning Reversal.

Is your problem "can't press buttons fast enough" or "don't know the trick to this"? Can't help you with the first but the second is - stay reasonably aggressive. Limit jumping and running around as much as possible, this game is designed to punish Dark Souls muscle memory. Aggressiveness is the key to most boss encounters that seem unmanageable at first.

When fighting Isshin I was constantly dying by his first phase and the complete tone shift that was his second phase. I had already thought to myself that I'd inevitably beat it on my first try if I ever reached his third phase. Then after somehow getting past his second phase, I somehow managed to get his third phase on my first attempt, reversing his lighting like a total boss. I had become so accustomed to death being inevitable with every step forward, that the prospect of being able to tell Miyazaki to fucking shove it and somersault over the finish line kicked in my desire to live and win like nothing before did.
