My melee swordsman kills everything by herself on VH, its a joke. The semblance of challenge on my first run was because I had a rigger-decker-mage with 3 body for most of the game. After plot AP upgrade in particular she can run up and doublecut anybody to death. For the Renraku run I only took a dwarf support mage, 2 out of 4 party slots. Haste PC to 5ap, kill 2 enemies a round with double cut or cleave. Took out everyone at renraku labs incl. Basilisks with full health using support mages heal ability.

Will try Telestrian with mage and dodger for matrix then rest of game with only mage backup. You get far too much karma, enemies are far too stupid (hurr durr I will shoot you from far away THEN run up to you and end turn), there aren't enough enemies with interesting abilities (ghouls appear only once, not many or no adepts, no drone uaers, not much grenade types).

Glad Berlin is free for KS (and preorder I think?) And hope they ramp up the shallow mechanics there. I think even some easily moddable settings like karma # and enemy levels plus some thoughtful encounter design will go a long way.

After struggling to stay interested, I finally managed to reach the Brotherhood's Inner Sanctum and see the first insectoid mutant thingies, when the game glitched out and I ragequit.
Does the plot thicken get any better after that point or was the glitch a blessing and a sign from the Gods of Incline that I should say fuckit and just wait for mods to fix it super awesome modules no doubt to hit us within the next few months?
I hear combat gets less B-S-B in the latter half of OC, but it's too uninspired at its core, to begin with, so I'm somewhat skeptical in that regard.

The Brotherhood building, especially the tedious snooping and clicking on random things you have to do to get into the inner sanctum, is the point I decided I really didn't like the vanilla campaign.

I think Harebrained Schemes made a big mistake only allowing you to make one runner and having to recruit the rest. I would have found being able to create a whole team that operated out of a singular base much more engaging. Similarly ditching the "epic" story and allowing you to run amok with your own choice of jobs and independently acting factions also would have been much better.

I wish they had left the matrix as a skill check instead of the half-assed version they have in there now. Just did the first part of the Telestrian run, and it took Dodger forever to get through it. Miss-miss-hit-miss-miss-hit etc. It's basically regular combat, but crappier and with new skin. Eh.

Oh yeah that's driving me crazy. I've had to re-do it three times because my computer crashed once, then I quit the game thinking it would reload me in the CEO's office but no. I really don't see the point in dragging the matrix areas out across so many screens and so much space, it should be short and punchy. Lord have mercy when you have to herd a bunch of summoned programs through a matrix encounter whose combat consists of throwing highly inaccurate balls at one another.

The only way to cut through the tedium of Matrix combat is to make your main character a decker. Six points in Int. and six points in Decking (no need for ESPs) and you should hit far more often. Buy one of the armors that give you extra Int.. They might help, although since the character screen displays the bonuses incorrectly, you can expect pretty much anything.

lol

So my cousin, who is not really a gamer, saw me playing Shadowrun Returns.

He commented, "All you are doing is putting people behind obstacles, clicking on enemies, pressing End Turn, and patting yourself on the back as if you did something very tactical. Why aren't you playing that Baldur's Gate game instead? You seem actually nervous playing it, rather than this game, which just tries to make mundane actions look intelligent, because everything's in turns."

I was stunned by the comment, because someone not used to playing videogames managed to cut through the bullshit and realized this is not a remotely challenging game in any way. (Interestingly, he had the same comment about Fallout's combat.)

Putting your people behind cover and firing at enemies is what combat with modern guns is about. Tell him that when you cast Stoneskin you're actually putting your character behind a portable obstacle and that Magic Missile is an assault rifle burst.

The plot turned from cliche but okayish into full :retarded: after the funeral of the Watts. Would it get any better? Or has it gone irredeemable derp? Are there any interesting levels beyond this point?

There's a good corporate infiltration run, but I agree that the story took a dive after the funeral. I really did prefer the 'low level' feel of 'just avenging your friend'.

I LOL'D at multi-dimensional bug-spray line. I imagined myself running up to the bug spirits and spraying them to death...

Corporate Raid Mission is GOOD and you have only one not too long Dungeon to cover after it; so the funeral and relative epicness is not as bad. You destroy one nest of bugs only after all and all this will be covered up anyway. Not epic like destroying star killing Forge or Dragon God King in any way, shape or form.

The main problem with the game after that point is that fighting the bugs is a major pain in the ass. Specially since you have to kill them twice and they love poisoning you with -AP debuff and getting lucky crits

My overall death count was 5(on normal ) because 2 of them were freak criticals, one was 40, the other 30 and those were the during and before funeral. Funnily enough, the bugs section isn't difficult at all with shaman using slow movement and barriers. Hell, my fucking adept with killing hands and haste did most of the dmg to the bugs anyway.

I wouldn't have finished the game if anything had gone wrong in the final battle (I AP drained the bugs and tunneled the big bad).

My final battle was challenging because a level 5 air elemental turned on me. Even with aim accuracy, aim ed shot and 6 in quickness. i could only get around 70% to-hit.
