I am used to that the male characters in jrpgs often look a little bit girlish.

Effeminate men seem to be a thing in Japan.

But man, did they take the cake with that main character.

On another note: What's the better emulator for the game?

I have a bit of stuttering issues (mainly during cutscenes) and around 30 fps in ryujinx.

Is yuzu better?

Ryujinx seems to be the better one. The stuttering you're experiencing is probably shader cache compilation which is normal.

If you like SMT you're going to enjoy it. Haven't come across any dungeons yet. Can't say I'm particularly interested in the story or characters so far. I think it's a downgrade over 4/4A/SJ in the world/characters/story department (even if noen of these were ever good).

Seems to me like they were planning on going after the Persona crowd really hard but someone mid development asked them what the fuck they were doing and they cut out 90% of the writing/cutscenes. Half the scenes are completely random "what the fuck is happening" tier.

Only thing I don't like in the gameplay is how they don't allow you to use incenses on MC anymore. Really fucking stupid. I hate wasting these on demons.

PS: I recommend getting the japanese VA DLC which will be free at release. The dub is truly shit. Only Aogami is good.
The story picks up a bit later and is actually pretty interesting. There are dungeons (though they are on the lite side) and the MC gets hit own incenses.

I don't think the story is going to explain how
the freckles dude who's scared of fighting demons is teleporting all over the place behind enemy lines and talking to Abdiel in front of you, while both completely ignore you and nothing happens after the scene. Feels like scenes with him were cut.

MSI Laptop:

Intel i7-6700HQ
16GB RAM
Nvidia 970M

Did you try it on Yuzu? You can downscale the resolution in the latest early access versions. Might not look pretty but could provide a FPS boost.

Anyway, glad to hear the game is playable on both emus, gonna give it try during the weekend. Hopefully it'll shape up to be a modern Nocturne. :positive:

1.01 update for the game? How is that even out when the game still hasn't been officially released yet?

ATLUS already doing pre-PC release support? lol

The more I play the more I think this magatsuhi or whatever mechanic is completely pointless and inferior to the smirk system it tries to replace. The introduction of the "guard" command seems to have done more harm than good overall.

So far 4A remains the best SMT game systems/gameplay wise. I don't think 5 is going to have a place at the top.

How's fusion mechanics? Can you fuse anywhere (even if limited in some way)? Can you choose which skills to inherit? Do some of your demons evolve like Nocturne?

You can only fuse at save points (but you can teleport back to them anytime you want with an unlimited resource). So no, but kind of?
You can choose the skills you inherit.
I haven't seen any demon evolve or show the dialogue saying they're about to evolve so far.

There's a demi-fiend DLC where you face him and his demons

Yeah but it would only a minor connection since it's only a DLC, Netherrworld looks too similar to Vortex World so I hope THE GREAT PLOT TWIST in main story will show some connection between SMT5 and Nocturne.

I doubt there's an official connection between Vortex and Nether worlds, seeing how the later is a soft reboot of the former. But who knows..

Don't know about evolution but it seems possible to strengthen your low level demons so they keep competitive until endgame.

Or so that IGN review said. (the one who criticizes the game for not being Persona 5 lol).

Isn't this game supposed to be locked at 30fps? Going higher will cause all kinds of fuckery if that's the case.

It's locked at 30 on the Switch (apparently with severe fps problems) but game logic isn't tied to framerate.

I can't say I've noticed a single issue I'd attribute to the framerate. It's an UE game so they'd have to go out of their way tp fuck that up.

I briefly compared the emulators in the storage house area yesterday and Yuzu gave me extra fps, perhaps 10-15%. That area has been perhaps the most demanding so far. 1x with FSR is a very good compromise. 2x certainly looks better but it'd put me below 60 fps more often than not.

Yes performance is a bit better in Yuzu especially in vulkan but you have to deal with some graphical issues and crashes.

Since some people here use Ryujinx to emulate the game some small tips to run the game better:

Use custom scaling for example i can't reach locked 60 fps at 2x but i can at 1,5x (note always use a , to separate the numbers and not a . )
Disable vsync even if you want to play the game at 30/60 fps it only introduces input lag and there is no tearing even without it, use rtss or driver to force fps lock, if you get audio crackling switch the audio backend to sdl2.
