wat

I was honoured in every single one of my last 8 or 9 games, and I still haven't gotten a single ribbon since the concept launched

Someone wrote a while ago that maybe these are given to really bad and toxic players to make them more docile...

- First pick wants to swap for counter pick.
- I'm like. "Sure, give me a support of any kind. I got all champs."
- He takes sona.
- Enemy team picks cait.
- He's like "Get me cait!"
- I'm like, "Er, they have cait. Pick somehting else"
- He's like "Cait! Quick!"
- Time runs out, I get booted from lobby. Promotion series over.

Mine are 55-60%! :smug:

Say, what does Alistar do in lane anyway except heal and bodyguard? I feel like his W-Q combo doesn't do anything, like yay they lost some health now they sustain it back, so what. Flash Q E can get somebody killed but still it's not a sure bet like Bitchcrank combo without flash. Like I have 0-9 with Alistar, my worst win rate out of any champion. And what do melee supports do in lane when two asshats are shooting at you, go back and pink the side bushes?

Conversely what does Nami or something do anyway when your carry or you get initiated on by some jungler or Thresh or 4 man dive or whatever? And what good your harass amounts to anyway as it runs out to potions?

Alistar is a kill-lane support. He uses Flash + Q + W into your tower or Ult towerdives or W + Q to enable your carry to get kills. He also has the what may well be considered the most effective heal in the game, when you look at the mana cost. Think of him as sort of a Leona with different forms of CC and sustain. You probably shouldn't use your abilities unless it will get a kill or will save your carry from getting damaged.

And Alistar really isn't a good pick against ranged harass, so that might explain your problem. If I see Alistar on the enemy team any ranged support- even Soraka- can plink his Hp to 50% before he even levels up.

Nami is kind of like Janna; she counters trades. Say they trade with autos- you pop E on the carry and bam they win the trade. Or say their support stuns your adc - you stun theirs, and as their stun wears off, E the carry and you already won the trade. You can make it even more decisive by using the W for extra healing/damage.

Unfortunately, with Nami, you need to plan ahead a lot. If they are diving you it's already too late. You'd want to R or Q them well before they even get close enough to use any gap-closers. Your job is to make sure situations like those don't happen in the first place. Because if a jungler and a CC support are sitting on your carry, all you can do is Q them, throw in a W and R, and hope for the best. You should try not to let it get to that point.

And the harass is good because, well, it drains their potions. It forces them into a decision- do I want to keep farming, even though I can't restore my HP and risk ganks? It puts them on edge and they make mistakes - or b. Either way, it means your carry can farm better.

My win rate with nami is 58,6%, I only play with her when supporting apart from the one lost game where I played thresh just after I bought him yesterday (we did good bot, but premade mid and jungle dc'd for 8 minutes, gg 3v5 lost nearly all towers before they reconnected). I have correctly determined that all the losses I had bot as nami were when they had thresh because my adc cannot into not getting grabbed.

Winning bottom lane in solo QQ basically amounts to either banning thresh and getting nami or picking thresh before the enemy does. Well you can try going with leona if the pick thresh but leona requires your adc to be competent. Thresh and Nami don't.

EDIT:

You're playing support wrong. First don't play ali, he was meh as a support last season and now he's shit. He has no gapcloser unless you W+Q properly so odds are you will probably just push them away. You just eat harass all day and probably get zoned yourself. Leona gets away with being a support as her passive and gapcloser (not to mention ult) give her synergy with early game bullies like cait, mf, draven, varus, ez etc. where you either zone them like hell due to poke or they get zones by you because one E+Q allows your adc to murder them. Who needs heals when the people who could harass you are dead or terrified of trying to harass?

Second unless you're side of the lane is the bullying side and they don't have sustain (other than morans blade and LS quints) don't waste mana on harassing. Save that shit for when you or they try to all-in you or when either jungler tries ganking. Or to heal your adc if you have heals.

Third if you see a four man dive coming you run unless your jungler or mid are nearby. If their adc, mid or jungler is fed run anyway, fuck the tower. Nami and Thresh's kits are both good at fucking over divers, however if you are badly outnumbered or outgunned that shit won't help you.

People who view Alistar's W + Q as anything less than a 100% certain gapcloser + knock-up and stun sadden me greatly. It's really not that hard when even the Grunker can pull it off.

What I meant to say is that even if you can do the combo right and not botch it there are simply better choices for a kill lane support with more reliable/less risky initiation. Why play ali when you can just grab them with Thresh/blitz, bubble them with Nami, polymorph and slow with lulu, E+stun with Leona, tornado them with janna, snare them with zyra or stun with taric? The cow is simply needlessly hard and risky to use as a support for what it offers as a champion down in bottom lane.

Because an Alistar combo is impossible to avoid without flash, and has the longest "stun" period of any support out there pre-6. Not to mention he's the best tower diving and roaming support in the game.

It's pretty hard; you see people mess the W->Q up even in tournaments. Add in some latency issues or a slight range mishap and it fails.

I do agree Ali isn't exactly as great as he used to be this season and I wouldn't pick him. But good support players, like krepo, still manage to use him exactly the way he is meant to: W->Q, Q->W combos and daring, insane towerdives that secure kills.

So it basically boils down to playing a support that shoots unless you have like Graves, then you go for Leona/Blutz/Taric? And you always go for Thresh no matter what?

Because I usually pick Alistar in response to them having superb carry divers and our top being like Nidalee or something else useless while the jungle is also a diver.

Thresh is mostly strong because his kit allows him to zone like hell and get easy kills off dumb enemy laners while at the same time he can peel decently and fuck over enemy all-ins with his ult and lantern not to mention the CC. To beat him you need specific bully adc+support combos which are hard to find in solo QQ, you either poke the shit out of him or outmatch him in kill-lane potential. He's not like blitz where if they go straight for the adc and just ignore you there is nothing you really do to save his ass from range short of a lucky grab. So he's a fairly safe pick even if they do know how to dodge your grab.

I can see why they want to nerf Alistar's E, he's like a rock in lane. I think before Thresh he was the ultimate immovable object that zoned and helped his carry at the same time. Playing against Alistar you rarely get really far ahead, and if he's good you even feed a few kills. Ranged harass is meh, not a hard counter. Then the mid-game rolls around and he's awesome. I can see why they want to make him higher risk by removing the heal, it's very frustrating playing against Alistar, but it's also kind of unnecessary.

Alistar was quite unique in how he played and was a great bodyguard for weak laners. Can heal-less Alistar for example do really well against Blitzclank or Leona anymore? The crazy sustain + tankyness versus those two supports is what made him really good. If he loses the sustain he'll lose a lot of the matchups that now favor him. And what tanky bodyguard will everyone pick to protect their hypercarry? Thresh, like he's not picked already. Riot is so random with its changes, Alistar filled a unique niche and the change should certainly make him play very differently, and maybe get picked even less if Blitz/Leona just do his job better.
