I'm pretty sure it's a holdover from very old by this point PnP manuals that envisioned the Forgotten Realms as some ancient time within our own world, much like Hyboria (Conan's setting) and Middle-earth.
The Known World / Mystara campaign setting avoided this kind of silliness concerning the past tense.

I swear this game's VA's are the same that do commercial voice overs on bongland TV. Why does my amish dwarf cleric shift between kind hearted bong grandfather and proper 'ard cockney lad at random?

Forgot to capitalise a guy's name on accident. Now his name is "john".

Spellcasting is not fire and forget? Short rests??? This 5e world is novel and terrifying to me.

This is the most bare bones proof-of-concept ass rpg I've ever played. When does this game get good? The encounters take way too long and the 5e combat is really bland. The verticality gimmick is not carrying it at all.

Dungeon Maker Contest Winners & Kickstarter Goods Update

Hey there folks,

It's been some time since our last update, hasn't it! Here we've been hard at work on our next DLC, which we should hopefully able to share more about in the near future. In the meantime, we want to congratulate the winners of the Crown of the Dungeon Maker 2 Contest (held by SirMadnessTV) who've been working on some fantastic custom maps, which you will be able to download below! Oh and we also noticed that the last cat picture we've provided was in 2021. Shame! Here is one for today!

Little Mili is settling well in her new home, although she loves destroying the sofa!

Crown of the Dungeon Maker 2 Contest is over!
And congratulations to all the winners! This contest held by SirMadnessTV saw many contestants try their hands at making the best adventure they could using the Dungeon Maker tool within the limits of a 50x50 map, and boy did we get some treats.

UncleSporky takes first place Shelter, a level 1 - 3 adventure inside a tavern that is filled with great RP moments!

Cynoc takes second place with the Legend of the Woman in White, a level 2 adventure about investigating a local legend!

EricWisdom takes third place with the Dragonstone Saga, a very tough level 6 - 8 adventure that will challenge your tactical knowledge of Solasta!

Special mention to Cervando who made a great level 1 - 3 adventure where you attempt to save a princess from the Athenaeum of Arcana, but who gave up his spot to remain impartial as a jury member of the contest

You can find those custom maps and most of the remaining submissions on the Steam Workshop at this link! All winners, as well as the 5 participants that were blessed by the RNG gods (Marchiato, TWMB, DaveyD, Tordon & Werick93), will receive their Steam Cards prize in the coming days.

Solasta Physical Goods Update
We just heard back from our partner who's overseeing all the transport and shipping part of our Kickstarter, and here are the latest news!
  • EU: Both the Sourcebook and the Adventure Box have made their way to the warehouse! EU Shipping should start next week if nothing goes wrong. Also, good news for our UK backers - since the goods were purchased before 2021, the new regulations shouldn't apply to your rewards (so no additional delays if all goes well).
  • US: The Adventure Box made it to the warehouse, but the Sourcebook is still stuck at sea. Latest ETA we were given is end of February, so shipping will be delayed (probably to early March). Sorry about that, there is literally nothing we can do but pray to the gods of the sea :(
Alright folks, this is the end for today! Go grab those custom maps and give them a spin, they are really good! And as always, check out our Forums and our Discord Server to chat with other players

When does this game get good?
It doesn't.

It is more fun than BG3.

I still believe that this game on 2E or 3E would be extremely better.

he encounters take way too long and the 5e combat is really bland

Double the damage to PCs and make enemy have half hit points.

That way, the game lethality will be closer to AD&D 2E. Sure, 3 saving trows after you get to 0 hp means that you can easily beat the game with zero deaths but still better than a goblin soaking dozens of arrows. I did it in my second run and was way better. Now I'm playing Bards Tale and am loving TB combat in that game.

Spellcasting is not fire and forget? Short rests??? This 5e world is novel and terrifying to me.

Yep. In 5E, Wizards casts spells like spontaneous casters like Sorcerers.

Hyboria (Conan's setting) and Middle-earth.

If you wanna play a RPG set in hyperborea here is, a retroclone set there > https://hyperborea.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?id=1225

Is way lower fantasy than typical D&D. In AD&D a high level magic user can stop time, shape reality and mate meteors fall from the sky. In AS&SH the maximum that you can expect from a legendary cryomancer is ... A spell to freeze enemy hearts and a spell to summon a relative powerful demon and has a chance of turning against the caster. LotFP is also amazing in being a low fantasy retroclone.

Thinking about getting the game, but I have three questions I'd like to know the answer to first. How pozzed/woke is it? Can I make my own party or am I stuck with the dwarves and very ugly women from the beta test footage? Can I name my characters gamer-words or is this yet another single-player game where the devs thought they needed to control what other people can call their party in the privacy of their own homes?

A bit. Pronouns in char creation that aren't used in game and that is it.

an I make my own party or am I stuck with the dwarves and very ugly women from the beta test footage?

Yes, you can. And I recommend no manlets in your party. Thurst me, manlet rogue = trash as they small leg means that they can't move a lot / turn and rogues depends a lot on mobility.

Can I name my characters gamer-words

I believe so.

I personally just make Elves and maybe a token half-elf for a charisma character. So many bonuses. No reason not to take them, especially considering how much time you spend in low light.

Quick question: Which of the factions are woth prioritising for the relics?
Factions are only relevant for the items they sell. Antiquarians sell the best wondrous items, so I always try to max my reputation ("living legend") with them first. Tower of Knowledge only sells crafting recipes, so you can easily ignore them (unless you really care about poisoned arrows for some reason). Then you have to decide which one you prefer between the remaining two: Circle of Danatar sells magic weapons and armors, Arcaneum sells primed items that you need to craft magic items and armors. The items you can craft seems to be better than the ones Circle of Danatar sells, so I usually go for Arcaneum.

I've since abandoned the game btw because honestly you can't get away with releasing what amounts to a boring prototype of a mildly novel combat system in this day and age. This isn't 2014 anymore. As I've said the minecraft verticality ZOMG HE CAN FLY shtick is not enough to keep a discerning customer like me interested. Runs like shit as well.

I forgot the name but the one in the inn that sells weapons was the one I got the most use of.
The one closest to the embassy (I think it was called the antiquarians?) also sold some magical items which also had some use.
