I first got the impression many just complained because they had to big expectations, but I now get the impression you think it is seriously bad? I kind of hope it have some success for I get the impression a spore 2 would be the real deal...

What could possibly give you that idea?

In how Sims 2 improved on sims 1. but overall a game like Spore is really expansive. It is generally easy to improve on every gamepart of it and add new things. Because overall I think the idea for the game is good and that the execution doesn't sounds to bad. It is just that all the separate parts are a bit shallow and not to fleshed out. either with a spore 2 or with a couple of expansions it could be the game people wanted/expected.

I don't believe that this is going to sink EA, they are simply too big.

Lehman Brothers was too big as well...

But no, EA won't sink, I just hope they'll stop this limited activation bullshit. [/dream]

Right... So we just have to buy the 16 expansions and we'll finally have the game we paid for...

Honestly, I'm very glad I've been reading the threat for this game on the DF forums. If I'd only read this one I might have just decided it was mostly a bandwagon hate bomb and the game still had allot of redeeming value, and bought it on impulse when I saw it the other day at Gamestop. Instead I bought Dark Messiah, Overlord, and a used copy of Way of the Samurai 2 all for only forty dollars. Dark Messiah is actually pretty good, despite some lame scripted sequences that force things to happen you could reasonably have stopped had they allowed you to. There are even a meaningful choices near the end, apparently. Though I just started level 9 so I'm not quite done yet. Haven't tried the other two yet. Oh right, so anyway. Back on topic.

Spore and EA in general:

Did anyone buy the Galactic Edition outside of the US? Does it have the Natgeo DVD?

Or, did anyone buy the GE in the US? Does the four sided plastic cover fail to mention the Natgeo DVD, but said DVD's been included inside?

No, there aren't, really.
Still, you will have more fun with that game than with Spore ;)

Yay I beat it. So there are four possible endings, depending on your choices. They're all the same cutscene but slightly altered depending on those choices. The ending was... very short and underwhelming. Still it was a fun game in my opinion. Wish it wasn't so ridiculously oversized though. I have to uninstall it to play overlord but I wanted to keep it on my drive for the multiplayer.

Probably trying to stay out of that shitstorm to avoid his review from being dismissed as being only a rant or grudge against DRM.

Why didn't he mention the three install limit?

Because it's not really relevant to how terrible the game is?

He didn't seem interested in installing the game even a second time.

Well, I ain't going to do it. I just hope other suckers do that and then I will possibly get a good game in 5 years from now.

I'm not going to buy expansion after expansion to get a slow drip-feed towards what we should have got the first time.

Why bother? If you wait 5 years they will release the superbronzegoldplatinum edition with all the expansions included at the same price as the original is today. At least that is what they did with Sims 1

Exactly. I expect to see the first expansion soon and it will likely contain content we already know was cut from the project before release to give us this empty shell of a game. Once the diamond studded uranium edition comes out you could consider buying it or more likely removing nothing from an inventory, from what I've seen in the comments here and elsewhere.

Kind of my point, after a while a good game may creep out and then I may buy it. Or something else if it really fucks up my comp.

Maybe. Though I think I got better ways to spend my time than playing Spore as it stands right now. Let's see...playing the OC of either NWN probably rates higher in priority than playing that game. Granted, neither OC is really that good, but I think I'd rather play them 100x than touch Spore right now

EA Relents On ‘Spore’ DRM: ‘We Need To Adapt Our Policy To Accommodate Our Legitimate Consumers’
http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008...licy-to-accommodate-our-legitimate-consumers/

EA Games president Frank Gibeau
… Two weeks ago EA launched SPORE – one of the most innovative games in the history of our industry. We’re extremely pleased with the reception SPORE has received from critics and consumers but we’re disappointed by the misunderstanding surrounding the use of DRM software and the limitation on the number of machines that are authorized to play a single a copy of the game.

We felt that limiting the number of machine authorizations to three wouldn’t be a problem.

· We assumed that consumers understand piracy is a huge problem – and that if games that take 1-4 years to develop are effectively stolen the day they launch, developers and publishers will simply stop investing in PC games.

· We have found that 75 percent of our consumers install and play any particular game on only one machine and less than 1 percent every try to play on more than three different machines.

· We assured consumers that if special circumstances warranted more than three machines, they could contact our customer service team and request additional authorizations.

But we’ve received complaints from a lot of customers who we recognize and respect. And while it’s easy to discount the noise from those who only want to post or transfer thousands of copies of the game on the Internet, I believe we need to adapt our policy to accommodate our legitimate consumers.

Going forward, we will amend the DRM policy on Spore to:

· Expand the number of eligible machines from three to five.
· Continue to offer channels to request additional activations where warranted.
· Expedite our development of a system that will allow consumers to de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines. When this system goes online, it will effectively give players direct control to manage their authorizations between an unlimited number of machines.

We’re willing to evolve our policy to accommodate our consumers. But we’re hoping that everyone understands that DRM policy is essential to the economic structure we use to fund our games and as well as to the rights of people who create them. Without the ability to protect our work from piracy, developers across the entire game industry will eventually stop investing time and money in PC titles.

Funny how he says the DRM is to protect them from piracy then acknowledges the game is being pirated to hell and back. If they had any sense they'd put out a patch and remove the DRM. This battle with the pirates is lost.

If they were smart they just wouldn't allow two or more computers to use the same CD key *at the same time* when requesting online features. That's what Blizzard does and nobody complains. You could have a million copies of Spore installed, but you'd only be able to play one at a time that way.
