Closing slash didn't help, still getting the same error. Fucking hell. Even changed all my directories to caps. Still not working.

FYI this is my KRYNN.cfg file

C:\DOSBOX\GAMES\COK\SAVE\

Check that the game is actually mounted in C:
You can do this by exiting the game, but not closing DosBox. The DOS prompt and the DIR command will tell you excactly where the game and the Save folder is located in the mounted volume. The CFG file needs to have the excact same path file as the Save folder does in the DOS prompt.

There are 3 directories; one of them is probably SAVE. Use the DIR /p command to view all files and directories.
Anyway, it looks like the correct path should be just C:\SAVE\

Yeah I think SAVE must be one of them...but...that's really weird. Okay anyway I will give it a go.

What folder did you mount as dosbox drive c? Yeah, it looks like the game's directory itself from the screen  c:\save\ then

You can just delete the cfg, run exe, make your picks, and when asked for save path, just hit enter - it prompts a correct path as default.

YES BROS SETTING IT TO C:/SAVE WORKED!

I don't really get that though.

I installed DOSBox to C:/

So I have a folder structure like C:/DOSBox/Games/COK/SAVE/

When I run the game, does that mean it sets the root dir to /COK?

It's weird because Death Knights is not doing this, I can give it the full path to the /SAVE directory and it works fine.

C:/DOSBox/Games/COK/ is the "literal" path to the game on your HD, while the "virtual" path that DosBox uses is just C:/
It's less confusing if you mount DosBox to a different station letter than C:
Not sure why Death Knights is different, though. What does the DOS prompt say if you exit that game?

Hmm I guess it's basically needing a relative path rather than absolute. All good. No idea why DKoK is working, I'll check that one out.

I've just entered Throtl and murdered a pack of Hobgoblins who dared to stand in my way.

Some of the random encounters get totally crazy have to say.

I've found 2 NPCs, one of them is some general dude (Strangbourn) and he is fucking useless! He just wanders around aimlessly every fight haha

IIRC you can buy precious gems or something for the money. The gem will fill a space in a character's inventory, but will will be weightless. Also, give all your cash to your Knight before returning to an outpost; that will ease the burden by 1/10. ;)
Anyway, the economy is rather broken in the Krynn games, since training and (IIRC) healing is free. In CoK I think the only thing to spend money on was a small magic shop, so I wouldn't worry about not being able to haul all the money you find. You can safely drop most of it.

Yeah but if I buy a diamond for 500 steel it doesn't maintain it's value, can only sell it for 250, that's not a worthwhile investment!

Also I appraised some jewellery and they were like this is worth 11000 Steel. So I didn't sell it (thought it might be magical) ID'd it and it wasn't, tried to sell it again and it was like "I'll give you 800 steel for that" lol.

Anyway good to know I can dump most of it. It's really slowing me down.

IIRC, gems and jewels are sold for a fixed price, but bought for a random value. So you might occasionally sell one for more than it cost you to purchase.

Either way, they weight 1 gp apiece (and they are stored among money, not in inventory), so you save on a lot of weight by investing into jewelry. Sure, you probably lose a lot of cash in the end, but when you have so much of it you can't move, you're going to lose it either way.

So bros, going to ask the inevitable - is there any crack to remove the copy protection.

Dying is inevitable in this game and constantly having to look up the journal on each reload is pretty irritating. It was cool back when I was 10, but not so much now :rage:

There used to be back in the day, but I am not sure they are easily found nowadays, with most abandonware sites offering what is probably the versions from cd compilations completely with manual and journal scans.

Champions, at least, had a broken crack those days; you could only save in training halls. I hate "ironman mode" ever since.

There should be ready made install& play packages here.

Ah what do you mean bro? I've already got the game and am playing fine but just the journal entry checks are getting on my nerves a bit.
