Well, I think I will wait a couple patches before trying Misery 2 again.

but when npc's shoot you and your not wearing decent armor you instantly die

Well - I must say that this is exacly the point.
- headshots - its simple - for me insta-kill headshots made the game to easy. So I've made this 'gamey' tweak as it was more fun and challanging for me personally.
:hmmm:

What FoV is everyone playing at? I'm playing at 85 on a 16:9 monitor with a native resolution of 1600x900 and I'm experiencing some weird anomalies. I'm still at the start, but as an example, all of my bullets land above where I'm aiming. I usually aim for the head to ensure I at least hit NPCs in the chest (bullet drop and all that) but my bullets go over their heads. I now have to aim for their centre of mass in the hopes that I might hit their heads.

Misery 2.0 really suffers from that headshot problem. The rest is fine in my opinion. I played as a Sniper and had a to spend a fucking hour and a half to clear the water station building next to the bridge of the mercs inside, and even then I did not kill them all. I had 40 bullets for my sniper rifle and scored headshots on pretty much everyone, but it would take at least three bullets to the head for them to die, and I was in close quarters (I was hidden in the big pipe and baited them). I had to finish the rest with my sawed-off.

The patch for MISERY 2.0 is out but they have made the artifacts even more worthless than they were. Oh and they also drastically reduced the selling price of mutant parts.

Just tried Misery (2.0.1) for the first time after watching LP of it. I was prepared for some high difficulty but DAYUUUUUUUM... Well, first quest (bring artifact to beard) took me 3 or 4 tries. Tuna and his friends were not a problem but I got irradiated and then emission started so I had to hide in Dredge thingy and get even more irradiated.

Then I bought some ammo and tried to go straight for the swamp (to find "first" crashed choppah) and... yeah, got raped by bloodsuckers. Mutants are so goddamn fast that I doubt that even better suit and nicer weapon would help me much. Is it even possible to finish this game with Misery?

As a side note, I'm very surprised by performance of this mod, I was prepared for some over-long loading times, stuttering and shitty frame-rate but no, games runs like vanilla and looks very good with static lightning, and that's quite a feat to make Stalker game look good without dynamic lightning.

But yeah, music sucks. I'v got nothing against Metallica or Kult but I don't really want them in mah stokker.

For me it runs a lot worse than vanilla and it is almost unplayable with all the stuttering. Do they plan to do anything about the optimization?

The ideas behind the mod are not bad but the game simply lacks content to make it all work. There aren't enough quests/ways to make money to purchase that much ammo/weapons/med kits etc. It looks easy to get stuck due to a small mistake and have no way to recover.
Not to mention that they can't expect to guess how to play the game without giving you a hint about what equipment you need.
They need to explain how things work in their mod as it is rather arbitrary. For e.g. I bought a battery just to find that it was useless (without a suit?). It is illogical that my PDA would require a suit.

I must say that I edited Alife file in gamedata/configs and changed first value in SWTICH DISTANCE SETTING from fucktarded 350 to vanilla 150 and it removed stuttering (almost) completely.

Just killed those two bloodsuckers...

... guarding crashed chopper on swamps, fuckers are either patrolling or some bullshit is involved because they will get you no matter from which way you will try to approach the chopper.

And felt like a boss. Got my gas-mask "damaged" in the process and had to buy new one because repair prices are through the fucking roof. I can live with high repair prices because it's obvious they are there to prevent you from gaining uber-weapon by picking one up from dead mercenary/duty dude and then repairing it. But if Misery aim is to add realism, it failed at that - mod is great but you better turn off your bullshit detector because it's full of artifical difficulty ranging from bullet-sponge-super-fast mutants to mercenaries seeing AND SHOOTING you through the walls when you try to sneak up on them (I won't even start on NPCs having unlimited ammo that "dissapears" as soon as you kill them).

Thread got kinda hijacked by Misery but answer to OP question is obvious, STALKER games are completely worth it, even Clear Sky.

You were lucky, I had two Chimeras there instead of these Bloodsuckers. And after that I got a swarm of dogs and pseudodogs chasing me.
I just went to the Iron Forest which is usually crowded with Controllers/Zombies/Burers/Bloodsuckers, and the only thing I've encountered there was the Poltergeist. Nothing else. Shit was pretty tense, thinking something could jump on me any second, but the whole site was completely empty.

Misery Patch 2.0.1 is out.

That's the one I'm using. My only experience with unpatched 2.0 is by watching LP by a stalker fan with quite a lot of knowledge about the series and dude seriously fuck-snaped while playing this. But I think most bullshit of Misery 2.0 was removed with 2.0.1 patch so you no longer need "unfucker" patch (that's real, and very appriopriate, name of fan patch for misery).

Things I noticed in 2.0.1 but may still had been in 2.0:

- NPC drops ammo, not a lot of it but some of it.
- There is option to turn off "NPC unlimited ammo" but it doesn't seem to do anything.
- Option to turn off "Hardcore AI aiming" and by hardcore aiming Misery dev team means that bandits will head-shot you with auto-fire shooting from the hip so I turned this shit off.
- Misery team never had binoculars in their hands and those are useless. Zoom level is same as handgun iron sight and I'm not even fucking kidding.
- Headshots are lethal again.
- NPC Stalkers/Bandits/Mercs are least of your worries (but they still have Jedi power and will see you through the walls), mutants will fucking rape you because they are way too fast and their hit detection is mental (they will hit you while they shouldn't). BUT you can just tand on a rock and mutants won't be able to get to you, even chimera won't even though it can jump from fucking Zaton to Yanov. That's the way I killed those chimeras guarding one of the chopper.
- Poltergeist still throw shit around but their main attack is "power word bullshit" (they simply drain your health if they see you)
- Since binoculars are completely useless there is no way to tell if random stalkers are hostile or not, just shoot every fucker you see, it won't hurt your relations with factions anyway.

I still think that this mod is great, I just keep bitching because I hope those issues will be fixed.

Bought ecologist suit for hunting artefacts (no other suit will help you since it's only one other than Seva that gives heat protection) for 80k. Run around anomaly fields, brought 5-6 artefacts and earned around 20k for them... but repairing this suit after heat damage costs me 16k so yeah, get out of here stalker.

So I fucking decided to grind on ever respawning bandits in Yanov check-point. Now I run around in Exoskeleton and bought me some Groza and Wolfhound pistol. Seriously, fuck artifacts, as soon as I abandoned rest of my self-respect and decided to grind on bandits I'm swimming in money.

Poltergeists will still auto-rape me if I get near them though. Somking joints (they give protection from mental attacks from some fucktarded reason) won't help you that much so you simply must savescumm your way through them. Controllers are much easier to deal with than goddamn fucking poltergeists.

So yeah, if you are not Stalker fanboy (as I kinda am) stay away from this mod until they unfuck it little bit further.

If you're playing CoP for the first time, are there any needed 'vanilla'-type mods (ie. bugfixes etc.) or is vanilla completely serviceable?

Vanilla Call of Pripyat is fully playable and extremely enjoyable without any mods. It's still STALKER game so you CAN run into some problems and crashes but nowhere near as many as in Shadow of Chernobyl, and oh.my.god Clear FUCKING Sky.

For example, I can run vanilla CoP only in static lightning (which makes game look like crap) or with DX11 enhanced full dynamic lightning (which makes game run like crap). Setting it on "dynamic object lighnint" crashes the game during start-up. I don't have this problem with Misery and game works with object lightning without any problems.

But that's technical stuff that's probably hard-ware related. Gameplay-wise CoP is really great without any mods and it's absolute must-play game.

Just get Absolute Nature and Absolute Structures (and probably Atmosfear too but that changes some settings), because the game is quite an eyesore vanilla compared to, say, Shadow of Chernobyl.
