was this game even good and worth playing?

Easily the best Star Wars game of the last 10+ years. I realize that's not saying much considering how most of them have been shit, but I had a lot of fun with it.

The lightsaber play in particular is really good. Combat is challenging without being frustrating. I also liked the metroidvania level design.

Aight I might buy and try it then... I dunno. I'm just so burned out on star wars lately after the movie debacle.. i havent even watch mandalorian yet and all that shit.

But I used to LOVE star wars so yeah.

KOTOR 1+2 are legit some of my fav crpgs.. I just thought jedi order looked abit jank and the combat?

I mean theres not even dismemeberment is there? any good mods I should know about for this?

Echoing some other comments in the thread I found the game to be pretty average, I liked it and I actually finished the game and that's about it. Some random thoughts:

Story was okay but not very interesting.

I thought the scrapyard planet in the intro was the coolest, shame you never got to do anything on it.

Tomb Raider puzzles in my action game make my caveman brain bored and angry.

The exploration rewards are lame as hell, random cosmetics that only change one part of your outfit and such, and once in a blue moon it might actually be an upgrade so you still want to seek them out. Having your rewards be cosmetics is okay but I'd have preferred them to be less dull.

The combat's fun.

And Star Wars is cool when it's not being bad.

I actually got a 1 month subscription to EA Play on Steam to play the game so it only cost me about 5 USD. Worth the price I reckon :)

I'm definitely interested in how the sequel will turn out.

It's good for what it is. It's one of the few games I actually finished in the last couple of years, it does't overstay it's welcome. I didn't hunt for all collectibles, which are, as we have established, lackluster rewards for exploration.

It's a pretty good AAA Star Wars action game. Definitely the best since at least Jedi Academy, maybe even Mysteries of the Sith. No real reason to buy it though. It's on EA Play, and you will for sure finish it within the 1 month trial; it's maybe 25 hours for a completionist playthrough.

Surprised to see this get so much praise, I think it's average at best.

The combat itself is OK, there is a good feel to it, but the world design and constant push for exploration and bullshit athletic "feats" - which don't actually require any real skill as they're not far off being QTEs - really drags the whole experience down.

It's also got that rotten prequel/Disney-flavour to it too, where the aliens and characters feel out of a kids cartoon rather than a space opera film.

It wasn't terrible but I still hated it just because it's another game which takes a few good ideas, then builds loads of bullshit around it.

TLDR: The Dark-Souls stuff was decent, the Uncharted stuff shit. And the game has way more Uncharted stuff in it.

Hot take 2: I would rather unlock 3 weapon upgrades that each double my damage over an entire game than unlock +5% damage at an hourly cadence.

But you can have character customization that does that, just make most advancement a matter of making your character's abilities broader, not stronger.

I'm not into "Subscribing to play games" and will stay far away from that, but the game is still Free on Amazon Prime till the end of January (you get a Origin key) if you happen to have it because of free shipping, will probably play it at some point because of that: https://gaming.amazon.com/home

I got the impression that it's less that people think this game's great than people think that pretty much every other Star Wars game in decades has been complete ass.

That's part of it, yeah. You have to go all the way back to KotOR 2 for the last SW game that wasn't mediocre to terrible.

After the horror show that were the new movies that nearly killed the franchise, this game being actually playable and fun was a good surprise.

Battlefront 2 (eventually) turned out fairly fun and Squadrons is alright, but I mostly agree.

I assume you're referring to the multiplayer portion of BF2, because I played the campaign, and it was completely forgettable. I haven't played Squadrons, but that came out after Fallen Order.

Electronic Arts & Lucasfilm Games announce new Star Wars titles from Respawn Entertainment

Upcoming Titles Include the Next Game in the Star Wars Jedi Franchise, a new Star Wars FPS from Peter Hirschmann and a Strategy Game via a Publishing Collaboration Between Respawn and Bit Reactor

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – January 25, 2022 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) and Lucasfilm Games  are joining forces to continue delivering all-new, world-class gaming experiences set within the beloved Star Wars galaxy.

Respawn Entertainment, best known for their work on Apex Legends™, Titanfall™ and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order™, is leading the development and production of these new projects.  Vince Zampella, Group GM and Founder of Respawn, will oversee this new phase of EA’s relationship with Lucasfilm, building on Respawn’s award-winning history in game development and expertise in telling compelling Star Wars stories.

Game Director Stig Asmussen and his team at the studio are already working on the next game in the action adventure Star Wars Jedi series, and are joined by two new teams working to deliver additional unique Star Wars gameplay experiences across multiple genres. Leading the development of Respawn’s all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game is Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn, who has a long and accomplished history with the Star Wars franchise. The third title is a Star Wars strategy game developed through a production collaboration with the newly formed studio Bit Reactor, helmed by games industry veteran Greg Foerstch. Respawn will produce the new Star Wars strategy game while Bit Reactor leads on the development of the title.

“We are excited to continue working with the superbly talented developers at Respawn,” said Douglas Reilly, VP, Lucasfilm Games. “They have demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far away.”

“Building on the previous successes of our EA relationship, this new collaboration highlights the trust and mutual respect shared between the world-class teams at EA, Respawn and Lucasfilm Games,” said Sean Shoptaw, SVP, Walt Disney Games. “Fostered by the expertise and passion within each team, we will create thrilling original games for diverse audiences across the Star Wars galaxy.”

“Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell,” said Peter Hirschmann, game director at Respawn. Peter previously worked as VP of development at LucasArts, and was executive producer on the original Star Wars Battlefront games. Hirschmann and the team at Respawn have just begun work on the title.

Work has already begun on all three of these projects, and Respawn is looking for talent to join the teams. Additional information on available job openings can be found at Respawn Careers.

“We are huge fans of Star Wars here at Respawn and we’re thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years,” said Zampella. “If you want to make great Star Wars games, you should come join us on our journey.”

jedi(& sith) are the most boring part of star wars and you can't change my mind
wouldn't be as bad if they were insanely rare rather than it constantly being a story that revolves around jedi/sith

Hope they improve on the first game, but I don't count on it.

They should come up with other incentives than cosmetics to revisit older areas with new skills. That was a bit lame.

I for one am happy they went down this route. I've grown increasingly tired of games padding gametime with "mandatory" things to go back to do in what would otherwise be relatively linear experiences. Typically when that process starts I'm already at stage of just wanting to get over with it.

which would you rather play: Batman or the guy getting mugged?
Was that a gotcha in your mind? Try inspector Gordon.

No it was an honest question. Probably a bad example because I'm not a comic nerd, so although I know who Inspector Gordon is, I have no idea why anyone would want to play him. Certainly not in an action oriented game. Maybe if it was more of an investigative thing.

So uh... good for you, I guess? Still stands, I'd rather play Batman.
