At this point the thread and the game have run their course so in a sane forum it would be closed and forgotten, because right now all it does is stink up the place like the carcass of a dead horse.

Really we are still at "modders will fix it" levels of copium?

Not even modders give a shit about this one anymore.
I don't think modders could even if they wanted to. How do you even fix Starfield? Add more procgen? Add more radiant quest types? I'm sure there will be mods that add little quest chains and a handcrafted POI or two but that doesn't really fix things.

The only thing I am hopeful for is some sort of hardcore mode that removes the tedium of fast travel and actually forces you to use your ship but that still leaves the tedium of the rest of the game.

It is evident from analysing both the data structures in the provided module files and from decompiling game code that modding capabilities were not a consideration in the development of the game engine up to now. This can also be inferred from the fact that there has been no quality assurance testing of modding functionality from Bethesda, as various current engine bugs that appear in the context of using mods would have been obvious showstoppers. Any existing modding capabilities appear to be incidental, stemming from the engine's legacy code base and the required work needed in that context to maintain functionality within the confines of editing Starfield.esm using the internal version of CK2.
- ElminsterAU, who's been developing the 'xEdit' programs for Bethesda's games for 15 years now.
So... Mods for SF will most likely be coming in slow due to BGS not programming Starfield (Or Creation Engine 2 most likely) to have suitable modularity akin to their older titles.

I also wanna mention that I think if the modding scene ever pops off for Starfield, it'll never be as widespread as Skyrim and I honestly think Modders should abandon the sinking ship that is SF, doing so would be an implicit endorsement of BGS's business strategy of releasing broken games and expecting the community to fix it (yes I'm aware that's also how it is with Skyrim and Fallout 4 but we gotta draw the line somewhere).

It's not even that deep, if people are not playing the game, modders will lose interest, and people are not going to be playing the game for very long because it's boring as fuck

That's concerning, sounds like kind of a deal-breaker for me. Fallout 3 and 4 already had a bit of an uphill battle prying modders away from the Elder Scrolls series, despite the tools ostensibly getting more accessible, if Starfield's actually regressed in that respect on top of the base game's already mixed reception, it'll be paddling up shit creek for modder attention.

Bethpizda decided it needed its own No Man's Sky? I have no idea how high-level decisions are made at that studio.

Is anyone reviewing it for this prestigious website ?

I have been playing more and more of it. It's really an incredible and keeps wowing at every second, sadly, not in the fashion probably hoped to wow me. It IS a 2006 game on a 2023 budget. It IS a skin of both Fallout and Skyrims (there are fucking Shouts and dragon attacks mechanics, FFS!). It is also unbelievably tropey. It does feel like Bethesda hasn't looked at games that have been released since Oblivion.

But unlike Fallout or Elder Scrolls which still had charming worlds, I am likely to finish it and then never touch it again. Everything I do in this feels generic and clean. The mechanics reach sometimes parody points. I love for example officialising cheesy romances with characters that are stuck with me because I'm on their personal quests, and once I've said "I love you", there is a prompt saying "Now you can dump this character." Classic.

The only mechanic I really like about Starfield is that in order to advance a skill you need not only skill point, but also to actually use this skill for x amount of times. So you can't really advance skills you're not actively using. IMO it successfully marries the ideas of point buy and learn by doing systems. Also it's nice that certain skill advancements give you new options in game. Too bad it does not include combat skills, for example advancing melee should give you new attack moves and even killing animations, which are sadly absent from the game.

Fedora Master is right. Even Oblivion did it better. A game that is almost twenty years old

This game fucking sucks. It takes everything wrong with every modern Bethesda game and throws away almost everything they did right.

With modern gaming's track record, we gotta give a game slack FOR being modern. Because there's so many shitty games being made, with teams that are shit from bottom to top, that if a game is in anyway decent then it deserves extra points for succeeding in modern light.

That didn't stop people playing other TES games.

I wonder what's the problem here. I'm glad its failing but I do wonder why modders are not into space head cannon like with post-apocalyptic or fantasy.
