In the name of Nyogtha, this project shall forever be remembered as The Thing that should not be.

Fuck this age of posers, liars and miscellaneous motherfuckers.

My boner! My precious, adamant boner!

So apparently Josh is now out of money and when Fenicks tried to play the game it wouldn't work. Shits fucked yo
Not at all surprised by this state of affairs.

I just hope other almost vaporware projects with cool concepts , like the mandate, don't follow the same route.

Sorry to break it to you, but mandate is running on vapours too with no visible progress since last year.

No real updates - spoke briefly with the man and he alluded to the fact that he is pretty much at his breaking point as far as financials go - so options are beg for friends and family money, or push out whatever is done up to the point of release and keep going from there.
Kind of a nebulous update - no real date given - just note that the pressure is building there too.
When I tried to run the game (this is a while ago and like a whole previous iteration) - it couldn't read or access certain data files - I assumed it was error on my part as I am not exactly clever or bright when it comes to such matters.
RIP

Genuinely a shame if that's how it ended, but we'll see how it goes.

There's no way I'd ever suggest or support another Kickstarter. I didn't mean to cause a ruckus with the last statement, just really saying that it's probably not -where Josh wanted it to be- at release doesn't mean it's not somewhere. As far as finances and money - we've been running negative for a long time so it's not like its destroying our lives. Josh made a huge sacrifice to quit working at an extremely hi level / lucrative position to develop this game full time - so it's really just a choice he made. He had a certain vision for where the game needs to be for release and we're getting to the point compromises will be made.

We aren't asking people for more money - we took down preorders.

Well thats a healthy attitude at least. Could be a lie but not asking for more money is a start.

Who is vordrak and why is he so angry?

I tossed a fair amount of cash at the kickstarter. Sometimes the thing you kickstart crashes and burns. If you can't accept that, you shouldn't be giving your money to strangers in the first place.

Even if I'm sad we probably won't see the final game, I don't think KDG acted in bad faith. They just bit of more than they could chew

Hopefully this is the healthy kind of compromise, not the one where fundamental features get ripped out because you can't get them to work well together.

With complex games like this, it'd be much more sensible of kickstarting first round of funding for the making of a proof-of-concept prototype, then releasing that and kickstarting for a second round with more realistic understanding of the required resources. Would hopefully eliminate most of the idiots who don't quite understand the risks involved.

Of course with that kind of an approach, most projects would fail.

This.

The reason people are so vexed with the Kind Dinosaur Games guys is THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD EVERYONE THEY HAD ALREADY DONE. "We have a working game," they said. Their Kickstarter literally said just that. A year later back in late 2015 they told us they were in the last week of testing before Beta - I have the screenshot here -

So the only possible explanation for their current statement is that their earlier statements were not true. You can read me rant about it in more detail here - http://matthewhopkinsnews.com/?p=2642

They probably would have had a decent chance if they had just stuck with the original concept, instead of trying to add on the 20 thousand stretch goals before the original game was even finished.
