My BG1 EE adventures are progressing nicely and the game is great fun and reminds me why D&D party based RPG are overall my favorite type of RPG. I have reached Nashkel and Im still on level 1 which is fine. I have disabled Party AI because that option is for the weak and I want to manage my own battles. I have 6 people in my party that include the following (just for the record I choose party members first on there combat role and effectiveness and then on there companion quests, dialogue and Romance arcs ). The BG1 NPC mod adds some hilarious and detailed new dialogues

  • Imoen :Shes cute but annoying at the same time, she is like a glowie on steroids. I thought I was bad
  • Khalid : Hes fine as a tank but what a spineless obsequious toady to Jaheira. I am seriously considering letting him die just so I can try Romance her, she is hot
  • Jaheira : She is my healer at the moment and effective in combat
  • Vienxay : She is a mod NPC and a NE Elven Shadowmage and she is very arrogant and supercilious but useful in combat so she stays for the time being
  • Kagain : He doesnt say much but he plays a good fighter role
Further updates to follow
Kinda strange since level 2 is almost attainable in or near candlekeep.
don't think npc1 allows you to romance jaha lol, non evil options are primarely wizard mom Dyna or cleric mom Branwen.
khalid can be replaced with minsc or kivan, with kivan being more interesting, although very mopey.

Merida, again
Khalid is the shit. Just kill off Jaheira. Give the fucker a set of plate, sword and bow and he will be your main killing machine.

I also installed the BG Romance mod, I am not sure if that allows you to Romance NPCs but I have noticed some promising dialogue options

Khalid is the best tank. Enhance his STR and he becomes the best warrior for a good-aligned party. Minsc is the is the beat damage dealer, but goes down easy in the tough fights unless he has the GoD. Jaheria is a whiny twat. Beheading should be her fate. Unequip everything on her than have Khalid cut her down. Oh, the irony!

That does sound funny but Im not that cruel, I am planning on replacing her with Viconia so I will probably let her live until then

Make sure to execute Neera.
When my party met her I did save her from the Thay Wizards because I do play a chivalrous character but she immediately started annoying me and I rejected her joining . I want a party that has mixed personalities, both good and bad because it helps me balance responses in the game

Thats why I like Vienxay, her arrogance makes her very entertaining. When I told her I wanted to have sex with her she said something like " that will never happen because she doesnt crossbreed and pollute her bloodline " (I am human and she is an Elf )

It is your choice to add NPCs to the game, but surely with the NPC Project there is enough of a personality mixture for you to play around with? I can't remember, what is your character?

Im a CG human Wizard

This is the first time I have played BG1 so I just loaded the mods that looked good and added the functionality I want

I also loaded the Glams NPC mod which has 4 new NPC. NPC project just adds new dialogue and not new NPC as far as I know?

Install BGT. Start with BG1 and play through it all. BG2 is surperior but BG1 is great as well.

Also, I brofisted a Volourn-post. I now feel dirty and must take a shower.
Damn, I never knew BGT existed. I still have the somewhat-buggy-but-daring-pioneer-of-a-BWP installed. It took me two weeks to get it to working with other mods some 8 years ago or so :D Now, you say BGT does the same and better? Get out of town, I'm getting one!

That post i outdated. Today I’d recommend using EET. Yes, it’s annoying to have to use the EEs, but that’s where current missing support is and EET is fantastic

You clearly like EE. I've no experience with it, I heard some bad stuff and some good stuff. Could you give me a summary as to why go for the EE and not for the original one?

EEs are superior from a technical standpoint, but most of the narrative additions are poor at best.
The upside is you can easily remove the narrative parts and retain the technical additions.

“missing support” should have been “modding support”. The EEs are useless but most updated mods are for them - and EET is the best “combine all games” mod out there

When i come across a new warrior NPC, I simply have them fight my current best. Trial by combat to gain membership to my elite club. Kagain always ends up taking a dirt nap….. plus, long term he uses the inferior axe. Long Sword, it’s what makes Khalid superior. Shar-Teel on the other hand can dish. I find her a close 2nd to Khalid. If only she would stop flapping her gash…..

You were discussing Kh*lids merits as a tank. Tanking and damage output are two different factors. Obviously Kagain is not the best *warrior* in BG1. Tank, however? Who could be better?

EE characters in BG1 aren't EXTREME annoying yet. But later they become more mary suish I think. I think in BG1 you can use them a little.

Dwarven save bonus makes Kagain god once you give him the strength belt and dex gloves.
Montaron funny enough also has some boni against spells afaik
And considering best weapon for most of the game is a bow anyway, Coran is also very nice.
'luck be a lady

The BG1 NPC pack is a huge steaming pile of dogshit that took the worst parts of proto-BioWare NPCs and cranked it up to 11.

May god have mercy on your soul BruceVC

Yeahhh….. the convo was obviously referring to good aligned parties, more specifically Khalid being the better choice vs Minsc/Kivan. He is the best overall choice as the party tank as he fits best in the good aligned party, which with a LG PC with 18 Cha gets you the best store discount. Awesome prices, max pips in LS, GoD and str enhancing items makes him a beast. A party with Kagain, being evil, loses out on that discount, though he is the obvious evil party tank choice. Yes Kagy get higher HP, but dwarven abilities are mute. If you need saves to be made, you already lost. The late game/major combats come down to winning initiative and disrupting spellcasters. Your saves don't really matter.
