The free movement better be good because I hate grid based movement with a passion.

Free movement? The sneak peek shot looks more than suitable for grid-based movement (or it's a good indication that level designers are retards).

RTFAs

Players aren’t forced to keep to 90-degree angles during exploration - they can unhinge themselves from the grid and stretch their necks in all the ways contemporary first-person games have taught us to expect. But InXile’s environments will be designed at severe right angles, in accordance with the limitations they’ve set themselves.

“The grid does force us to design it a certain way,” said Fargo. “There’s a pureness to it, and a quick understanding of things which is nice. When I’m exploring a world that’s more structured, it’s easier for me to put it together in my head.”

So it's basically grid-based with optional free movement, huh.

I'm very into cock and ball torture
About 2 years ago I would have been hyped about this but after WL2, Grimrocks, MMX and all the other oldskool projects I just don't see what Inxile is going to do to get me excited. Let's face it, Bard's Tale wasn't really that different from a dozen of other dungeon crawlers to begin with. But not complaining about new Bard's Tale, just not feeling it unless they really do something phenomenal with the Kickstarter campaign.

Bring it on Fargo, impress me.

Egh. I don't know what I was expecting, but I'm not a fan of Gaelic music.

I wonder if custom soundtracking might be a thing.

What!! Gaelic music is the best folk music in the world. I'm a fan of all the celtic music beginning from "Son Ar Chistr" to "Níl Sé'n Lá", from "Oró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile" to "Chi Mi Na Morbheanna".
Here Alan Stivell with "Son ar chistr":

And here THE "The Dubliners" with Oró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile:

Fargo: You’ll be wandering around in this first person mode, and you can either be snapped to a grid, moving ten feet at a time, or click off the grid and wander around more freely. We really get the best of both worlds there.

:incline::incline::incline:

This will be the first game since Realms of Arkania 2 that will be doing this.

Maybe, but I just find it dull.

And who wouldn't expect Gaelic music from Bard's Tale?
I know, I know. What did I expect? I guess I didn't really think about it at all. But to me no music screams GENERIC FANTASY like Gaelic folk.

Again, it would be nifty if we could substitute our own mp3s, wouldn't it? I don't even know what I would use, Bulgarian folk maybe. Just anything else.

If combat isn't necessarily presented from a first person perspective I may end up giving this a chance after all. Fargo's going to have to give me a really good incentive to donate though.

It's a blobber, you heretic. First person or gtfo.

Exploration is clearly done from the first person. I don't like first person turn based combat though, I need to see combat animations no matter how basic.

Blobber = first person combat. There is no room for impurities.

RoA had isometric combat with blobber exploration. That turned our pretty good. But I agree. If you're gonna remake BT, anything but first person is ridiculous.

Very mushy and ugly textures. Decent for Unity 5. Very generic for UE4. Fine for a low budget game I guess.

The developer will use photogrammetry to create in-game 3D objects from photos of architecture
Nice. :)

First result on Youtube for Julie Fowlis:

:hmmm:

:hmmm:

Makes me want to get all cuddly with my girlfriend instead of playing a game and bashing kobolds and slicing up hobgoblins.

I'm not so sure about this style of music, but I'll just give Fargo the benefit of the doubt for now.

Don't mind much exploring on first person but I liked Realms of Arkania better because of the isometric battles, I need to see my dudes doing their shit or my imershun is ruined.
