On that note the way dark souls is designed with in-game spoilers is interesting. Like I remember finding that path in Anor Londo through the cathedral by walking up what looks like unwalkable background geometry because someone had put orange markings on it and thinking "this shit would never fly without this spoiler system". And all the illusion walls that have no tell at all like an off-color texture that real single player games would use. Just weird how much shit you can get away with and no one is bothered because they aren't having to run off to gamefaqs. I guess that's a way to put in all kinds of grognardy secrets without alienating regular humans.

On the other hand this probably made them feel empowered to make crystal cavern as shitty as it is...

Being a level 1 dickwraith is the best bros. Running around naked and annoying new players never gets old. Gott love spamming the "Hello!" carrving as they scramble for the sepration crystal. You also get to see so many giantdads in the making - zweihanders/masks before beting gargoyles. And holy shit so many people summon just to get through levels. I keep invading anor londo and pissing people off when they're trying to get through the archers. Nothing like seeing 3 n00bs with full havel's gear falling to their deaths.

Man I played a lot of dark souls today. Finally managed to kill 4 kings thanks to the power of greatu magic barrier. It's really funny to see an enemy powering up a uber explosion for 10 seconds only to have it do a few mm of damage. Met kaathe and got his dark set by giving him 30 humanity. Then I went off to anor londo, joined the darkblades and farmed some ears in the painted world to get the best talisman. Then there was time for Bullshit numero uno in the entire game

Seriously, fuck archers. Poison arrows are cool though, almost makes me want to play a bow build or something.
After opening up the doors I went back to fetch something in the main world. I can't really remember what, but on the way this happened

rhea doesn't like to be kissed.

Then I killed the super londo bros, saving Luigi for last cause if I get really bored I might use his spear. Then I decided that this whole gwyndolin thing was kinda played out so I killed him. First time I played against the boss. It was kinda annoying, but greater magic barrier is really good. After this I dumped 30 humanity into quelaags sister to unlock the shortcut into lost izalith. Then I realized I had no humanity left to farm with, so I went back and made new londo dark so I could hug some humanity out of darkbladers.

Then I farmed for some sunlight medals cause coop can't happen apparently, and I want the greater sunlight spear.

Currently deciding on when I should do DLC content. Maybe its time to go "legit" with this character and stop sequence breaking and just do the dlc right before gwyn.

I use that silence ring from Sen's fortress on the Londo archer section; it makes the left one not look over to retarget you when you are charging up to kill the one on the right if you wait for the AI to forget you when you get behind the cover spot.

Also holy shit Kalameet is free to a light crossbow + shield. I thought he was going to be the secret ultimate challenge boss since he's such a sidequest but Manus was much, much worse.

Crossbow is hilariously good... when you can lock on. Assuming you don't mind spending souls on ammo of course. But as long as you're not using lightning bolts ammo is cheap anyways. It's like low level sorcery that never runs out.

Has anyone tried taking manus out 'fairly' with a bow or great bow? Seems like that'd be a fun thing to do.

They stole their designs from... nature? A bunch of those are completely random. Nobody artistically designed the crystals or the shit growing on ankor wat or the arrangement of graves in that cemetery. Maybe next you'll rage that their trees look too much like real trees or something.

Anor Londo sure... but even there it's just a couple locations and taken from two completely different places. The buttresses are probably even a coincedence. They do tend to occur in rows.

lol what. you really think artists just pull images out of their asses when they are designing stuff? of course they use references, especially in concern to architecture. and flying buttresses are inherent in every gothic cathedral, the fact that people needed a fucking tumblr to tell them that is the surprising part.

Inspiration is one thing, flat out copying is a completely different issue; they may as well have fucking traced the goddamn pictures. I don't know why you guys keep bringing up the buttresses, when you could bring up the Anor Londo/Château de Chambord photo, where the goddamn walls, floors, and brick outlines are EXACTLY the same [outside of the floor tile being a slightly different color than the Dark Souls game]. Outside of the Anor Londo stuff, the second biggest offender is definitely the weird grave photo. If you guys can't see this shit, you're either willfully blind, or your brains have very poor pattern recognition.

As for your second part, i'm not Johnny Quest: I don't have access to all of the beautiful places of planet Earth, at the ready in my memory. I actually stumbled upon this stuff just by chance, because I was looking at pretty nature photos.

I live right next to a grave-yard in a similar state of disrepair, so you'll forgive me for just thinking you're grasping for excuses here.

So why is this a problem? It is not a 1:1 copy, they used the basic architecture as reference.

first i thought gauda was the biggest idiot in this thread, but now i have to reconsider. it's either a really lame, shitty troll for aprils fools, or AngryEdgy is really that dumb. if the latter: a) it's not a 1:1 copy like you seem to imply and it's blatantly obvious (unless you're blind or stupid or grasping at straws) in the AL/Chateau picture, b) it's inspired by real word stuff, just like 99,99999% of the art out there c) is photography dumb because it's taking pictures of existing stuff... i mean, it's a 1:1 copy BURNT DEM PHOTOGRAPHERS!. get fucking over it (and what procastinator said... do the weapon also bother you that they're mostly 1:1 copies of real stuff? is every fucking game that drew inspiration from some real word thing automatically bad, then? are you seriously that dumb?). btw, there's also the exterior of AL that looks like the cathedral in Milan, the Helm of the Wise is almost a carbon copy of Henry VIII's helm, the capra demon is pretty much a carbon copy of "goat demon" representation of Satan for centuries and so on and so forth... you'll find this in every single game out there, and in every piece of art ever

People in Dark Souls look like humans, clearly this is a work of massive plagiarism.

I'm just wondering whether or not he's ever been to a graveyard built before the 20th century before.

Because that's pretty much what they look like if you don't keep them maintained. Graves fucking sink in the ground over time as the coffin collapses, and since most of them tend to be packed closely together, they start to look like something out of an expressionist painting.

I seriously don't see what's wrong with taking visual design from the Old Jewish Graveyard of Prague. It's a really great place to visit, looks like something out of a fantasy world. It's a sign of good taste to make use of it for visual design.

I think I have to permanently side against FROM SOFTWARE, from now on.

http://gaminginterrupted.tumblr.com/post/67003186121/dark-souls-locations-and-their-real-world

Holy fucking copy and paste plagiarism, Batman. The most blatant ripoff has got to be the Anor Londo / Château de Chambord, France, theme. I used to think they were good visual artists, now I know they're thieving, uninspired, rats.

Anor Londo does seem like it was almost directly copied but even if that is the case, so what? Even if From consisted of a bunch of "thieving, uninspired rats" it would certainly not stop me from buying their games if they make more good games. On the legal side of things, the Chateau is a 16th century building and as such pretty much everything about it should be public domain and freely usable. Of course it would be nice of From to give credit to its inspirations anyway.

Maybe AngryEddy is some poor Kwan from Kentucky or some other shithole, and has simply never seen any real Medieval or Renaissance architecture in person? The graveyard comparison is particularly puzzling, as you can see similar ones every 50km all around Central and Eastern Europe. Did you think it was supposed to be some kind of original artistic design, AngryEddy? I shudder to think how completely disconnected one would have to be from culture at large in order to believe that.
