According to a reputable NeoGaf member, “the Demon’s Souls spiritual successor” may be shown at Sony’s PlayStation 4 launch event.

Famousmortimer, who previously leaked the DriveClub delay and the next-gen resolutions for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4, revealed information he was given months ago about the launch event.

“It’s been months and at that point I had no goddamn idea what the ‘launch event’ even was,” he wrote. “But at that time I was told ‘They are thinking about showing the Demon’s Souls spiritual successor’ there.”

“Now many people here have been calling it Demon’s Souls 2… it might be. I’m just passing on what was said. Also, at that point there were arguments about whether it was going to be shown at gamescom or TGS and then someone decided it would be shown at this.”

Famousmortimer clarifies that his information may be outdated:

“Months have passed. They may have chosen a different game. I have no clue. I’m just sharing what I’ve been told, WHICH IS OLD Info, so don’t kill the messenger if I’m wrong.”

I personally hope it's not true,because seriously,there aren't enough differencies from DaS.I'd rather see From's busy in,say,a King's Field reeboot wich would also be multiplatform unlike DeS2.

Then again it might not be developed by FS.I heard that Killzone devs are developing a new unannounced game for example.

Sony controls the Demon's Souls brand.

They could still call it Demon's Souls[Small]: Subtitle[Big] and make a game in a different setting if they want to. Having both DeS and DaS being too similar isn't really optimal. But that's just conjecture from my part.

Thinking about it Sony could pulling a "So you want to know the whole storyline of DaS?Sure but now its linked to an IP we own so you'll have to get a piss4 too". If they are really trying to merge the two settings.After all Sony requesting this could be a good reason to do something unusual like that.

They're supposed to show it on a Sony Launch event. They only show Sony-published games there. Sony published means no PC and no Xbox.

Demon's Souls 2 may very well be in development but I highly doubt From Software is involved now that they got Dark Souls, an ip they fully own. They're not gonna go make a new game for what is now a competitor to Dark Souls.

Also the Souls series is King's Field's spiritual successor, Demon's Souls even started development as KF 5. I doubt From will go back to it since Dark Souls alone probably sold more than all KF games combined. Sucks for us, but unfortunately the KF games were never very well received by most.

And this is what matters. Demon's Souls 2 is just an empty name unless they get some comparable talent working on it. No rage or excitement is warranted.

To be fair they were always kinda hard to obtain and they only translated 3 KF games, of which only two came into the EU. Demon's Souls was less obscure since it got coverage by the big web sites (like Gametrailers) long before it was even announced that it would come to the west. That combined by the import friendlyness of english menus and english voice acting in the asian version of the game made it a lot more easier to get and play. I'm sure if they did a KF game today it would have a better chance than it did in the 90's/early 00's.

They could always make a KF-like game and slap the Demon's Souls name on the box. Otherwise, it would be a direct competitor to Dark Souls which isn't very wise.

I'm all for a new King's Field. Just began KF1 a while ago and I must say that its extremely addicting to circle-strafe enemies while chopping and casting.

I wish From would re-release the King's Field games along with the Shadow Tower games on the playstation store. Not only would it finally put some great dungeon crawlers back on the market, but it's also a good and easy way to see how much interest there is for a new game of that type.

And do an HD version of Otogi 1-2 while you're at it

PS3 beta test ongoing now, I just reached the Undead Chariot boss and died like 10 times... also, BLACK PHANTOMS EVERYWHERE!

I could never summon or get invaded.

Framerate was REALLY bad. I don't think I'll get the PS3 version and just wait for the PC release. Didn't like fighting the camera either.

Yeah, after playing it at 1080p on PC, going back to consoles is a big letdown... but the level design is still great, and the feel of the game is solid.
