Done with Brightstone Cove Tseldora which is annoying as fuck, moving on to Huntsman's Copse. Also I just have to say one of the things I love the most in these games is getting a parry just right. Just banished an asshole invader by managing to get a backstab and then risking a parry. I'm not good at it yet (in DS1 it felt easier to parry for me, either that or I know the enemy animations better or something), but this one time I got lucky and did a ton of damage which killed him. Good shit.

yup, it's much easier to parry in DaS1

fridgid outskirt is the most retarded location in game.
It kinda grew on me after about a week of me trying it, I understood its symbolism. You should see a movie/read a book about people trying to survive and dying in extremely harsh and unforgiving cold, away from all civilization - this area provides exactly the same experience. The outskirts will push you to the limits, they'll test your resolve, your intellect, your will to survive, your ability to struggle when all hope is lost. A real hardcore, optional area that not everyone is supposed to get through I think. You will realize that going unprepared is useless, this is like trying to go on top of mount Everest in your t-shirt. You may need to change your build, to get and enchant new weapons, to think your strategy through, and then to proceed methodically, carefully, calculating each step.

Finally beat vanilla DS2 last night in time for DS3 next month. Managed to knock off the last four bosses in a couple of hours with only 2-3 tries each (it's amazing how much less intimidating they seem than when I first started playing).

I'm tempted to go for the DLC but I'd have to buy them separately rather than upgrading to Scholar of the First Sin as I don't have time to replay the game again. On the other hand - I've got plenty of other unfinished stuff to keep me busy until DS3 arrives.

I found it a bit more accessible than DS1 which I still haven't finished, which suits me as a rather time-poor individual.

Nah the shit is just retarded. Can't evergreen find the boss door and I was surprised that I could spawn 3 phantoms instead of wasting my time with these retarded unicorns.

Eh I just went in with summons on my second run. Didn't feel like putting up with some retarded spawning that only affects you in one area if you are running. There was nothing hardcore about it.

Fridgid outskirts has ruined this game for me.
The solution is honestly simple if you just want it over with. Turn around to the summon area and wait for the wind to die down. When it does find the nearby building and run to it. Wait for the wind again and once it dies down go outside and look for the building far off. You won't make it there in one go so you will have to face at least one unicorn. Once you get to the buliding there will be some weak enemies in there and a place for a Pharos lockstone. Use the lockstone and it will become a healing spring that also works on phantoms. Once again wait for the wind and find the next building. There will be one of those golems with spears inside and I think one other weak enemy. Wait one last time and look for a cave. There is the boss area across the bridge. Get ready to fight two enemies.

Speaking of bosses, has anyone ever died to the covetous demon? EVER? Does it take the honorable place as easiest boss in a souls game? I think this is even easier than pinwheel was.

I think the final boss in DeS would still have that honor.

Pinwheel is easier because you can kill it in less hits than the covetous demon.

There's those poison urns hanging in the Covetous Demon's boss room that I think you can use against the thing.

But you don't even need them.

I did, and it's entirely because I heard he was so easy that it happened. I tried to rush through it and he ate me (which unequips all your items, but at the time I thought they were lost forever) and decided to go down swinging by trying to punch him to death. Needless to say that didn't turn out well.

funny thing about the covetous demon, you can just hug his body an keep attacking and even if he attacks the player by moving, it does no damage.

That shouldn't even be a boss. Just place him there without fog gate and it would work much better as weirdo monster.

I died like a bitch the first time, he rolled over me which pushed me into a corner that I couldn't get out from.

Just beat Nashandra... yeah that was ok. Gonna start the DLC tomorrow. Most annoying area: a tie between Iron Keep and Shrine of Amana. Coolest area: hmmm, dunno, probably Drangleic Castle. Toughest boss for me was maybe the Smelter Demon. Also enjoyed the Throne Watcher & Throne Defender fight, since they had a surprise for me I hadn't expected. Looking Glass Knight was pretty cool also, and human phantoms were also a nice surprise and it can get pretty nightmarish.

Crown of the sunken king is pretty creative so far with its level design. I just wish bows had better aiming in souls games

All three DLCs are golden and I agree that they have some of, if not the best level design in the series. I have to lower points for Crown of the iron king for having the bullshit frigid outskirts though. Also have to lower points on crown of the old iron king for having so many gangbang scenes.

Crown of the Sunken King is too short but so far the most consistent DLC. The final boss fight was pretty epic and I beat it in one go, that Dragon gave me kalameet vibes man. Now, onward to vendrick and completing the game.

It aint true DS2 unless you kill your summons with a ballista and die to a clipping grab attack of pursuer afterwards
