I'm willing to blame publishers and consolefags the most. They're the real cancer.

The problem starts with the devs. What kind of horseshit excuse is "we couldn't make a control scheme to select guns"? It's Duke Nukem, you will find a way. I'm having a real hard time picturing how an imperfect weapon selection could utterly ruin the gameplay.

Maybe these guys worked on Duke Nukem so long they forgot what made it good.

Shit, they should've made it on the Wii. They would've had the controls and a user base that can handle healthpacks.

Oh no, new "Duke" is a popamole! DIDN'T SEE THIS ONE COMING

Anyway, I call a curse upon those fucks who desecrated Duke's fine corpse. May they and their family die a terrible, terrible death and be in torment in hell forever.

"Yeah, blame us for it if you want. It may change in the future and I don't know what will happen with it, but it was us. I stand by it too, as you cannot discount designing games for a modern world and part of that world is consoles where the bulk of the sales can be. And on those consoles you have a controller. We tried for a long time to support lots of guns but we simply could not find a nice way to map it to a controller, despite trying 4-5 designs. We gave it enough time and decided to stop swimming against the current and adopt what was basically the "standard".
It's not 1996 anymore."
This... saddens me.
Well hopefully modders will fix it :(

I don't think Gearbox (and 3D Realms) put Regenerating Health in the game, it seems the game uses the "Ego" system from Manhattan Project (or so they say), where you do badass things to regain health (or something like that). I think "Ego" is just a vampiric health regen system, you kill enemies; you get your health back. I don't think you can just sit around and regain it by doing nothing, of course I could be terribly wrong.

One thing I can say, is that I'm very, very disappointed by the "Hold B for Shotgun" (as seen in the later trailers) that indicates a weapon-holding limit is in the game. I can't wait until they try to pull the "realism" excuse on this one when DUKE NUKEM ISN'T MEANT TO BE REALISTIC, it's clearly designed like that so you don't have to button-mash your way through 10 weapons to find the one you want on a console controller. (NinjEDIT: I should read the thread first) And why the fuck did they replace the Mighty Boot with Fists?

:x and :decline: sums up my thoughts on it.

On the other hand I can't help myself but be hyped, I've loved Duke Nukem since way back and even reinstalled Duke Nukem 3D from gog.com when I heard the news. I'm already through L.A. Meltdown and Lunar Apocalypse onto Shrapnel City. :D

Also, I really, really, really hope they release mod tools with this game. So if there is any of this bullshit the community can fix it.

Yeah, like they fixed Fallout 3. Shit design = can't be fixed. Unless you count furry porn as "fixing".

Actually, with enough mods you could fix Fallout 3's horrible FPS mechanics, and you could probably fix its horrible execution of SPECIAL. The things that can't be fixed are shit voice acting, shit AI, shit dialogue, shit writing, retarded [Intelligence] bullshit and pretty much everything else about it.

With Duke Nukem Forever, it's a pure FPS, if we had mod tools it probably wouldn't be too hard for the community to mod Unreal 2.5's engine for more weapons etc.

My shit sense is tingling. Still, this probably will be a bit fun, popamole, shit shooter which you probably can complete in 2 days, like COD.

What? Those are the easiest to mod away. Simply cut out all the shitty voice overs and rewrite the script. Dialogue is about the easiest thing to mod in a game. And any half decent mod could change the story and retarded quests.

It's just an assload of work nobody will bother with. But it's totally doable. Far more so than the mechanics.

Which will probably take about 4 hours. Actually, now that I realized it, I think I will play it too.

Yup, those are from the old version. It's not a light man, it's the popamole train coming right at us.

I can understand regen health and shit, but why limit weapons only on two is a real mystery. Nobody likes that.

:retarded:

1996 was so sucky with those full games. Who wants that when you can have games dumbed-down for consoles?

And seriously, all console shooters allow you to carry just 2 weapons? Is this such a big problem that no developer ever could overcome? Half-Life was released for PS2 if I'm not mistaken. How did that work? Is it so hard to cycle through the weapons with the shoulder buttons?

Nobody likes that.

I don't know, man. I heard it's realistic. Just like cover systems and health regeneration.

That's the worst excuse for shit development I've ever heard. Perfect Dark managed to... manage tons of weapons with probably about half as many buttons as the GruelBox has; with a fucking radial menu that comes up at the push of a button. Is that so fucking hard to think up, Gearbox?

True. There's that Oblivion mod called Nehrim which I'm enjoying immensely because it has good dungeon design, better voiceacting than the original game and more interesting quests/writing.

The mechanics still kinda suck, though, but the actual design is good. Bad design is always fixable - if some modders take the time it takes to make a huge total conversion that removes all the shitty design from the original and completely replace it with better stuff.

Which doesn't happen often because of the amount of work involved.

That quote was from Broussard, I think. So it wasn't Gearbox's decision. Not that they couldn't undo it.

JarlFrank, it would be cool if you wrote a Codex review of Nehrim :>
