Yes they are easy to buy and play, I already had the tomb Raider games and every legacy of kain game on gog from years ago. I also have the PlayStation ROMs. Probably 50 different Castlevania ROMs that I'll never play, dunno if any of those are in your collection.

You are not entirely wrong and I imagine the gacha games promised extra rolls and stuff like that if they won the competition. Still interesting that western games are getting rarer over the years both on the critics award and the player choice ones. I cant even remember the last time western games were a majority of the nominations.

My usual approach is to just check out the trailers. My bar for success is fairly low at this point and I will be happy if there's at least one new game revealed that isn't obviously compromised slop.

I'm expecting a lot more remakes and remasters to be announced. Maybe a sequel or two to an existing, reasonably successful game.

We'll see if the pandering is reigned in a little this time around.
