Nah. The development team forced that to be the case because they're drinking deep from the ESG/DEI trough by their own admission.

There's a pretty notable trend of games starting with a male protagonist and then later replacing them with a woman.

It was perfectly possible to have her show up as a cameo character and focus on a different male lead if they really wanted to ditch Geralt. Especially since the role he takes is almost exclusively tied to men.

That being said, I don't doubt that many autogynephiles are eager to play as Ciri so with that in mind I can understand the urge for some to rush to defend what is obviously going to be subversive slop.

Ciri was a fairly divisive character, not overwhelmingly loved and it's not like they didn't have other canon characters to draw upon.

The Witcher III was a complete game way before this game was posted. And when I beat it, my immediate thought was "if there's a Witcher 4, Ciri will be the lead".
So that video means nothing, because TW3 paved the way for a Ciri protagonist.
