I have finished every trails game with the highest difficulty and zero+ao nightmare has been the best combat experience in any trails game for me

surprising if sky fc is that easy on hard, with nightmare its the second hardest game after sc

I am indeed happy with the challenge in Reverie! It's been pretty solid across the board so far. Hoping the trend continues in Kuro no Kiseki.

60 hours into Reverie so far and starting to slow down a bit to savor the last third or so. An era is coming to a close.

Still playing through Cold Steel 2, just reached Reverie Corridor, and holy FUCK, can this game just end already?
And I thought having to level up my characters a dozen levels before the "final" (lol not final) battle in the castle was going to be the end of my trouble, but now there is *another* fiNaL DuNGeoN I'm supposed to clear before it's truly over.
The concluding section of this game (Final chapter and the rest) IS dragged out beyond all reason, it's exhausting
Though it's a good thing you once again get to play Towa, Alfin and the other characters that are not part of Rean's class.

You could, I don't know, just stop playing if you're not enjoying it?
It is not that I wasn't enjoying it (at least gameplay-wise), but rather that the final did come out overly prolonged. And how can I just leave it at that when I've already made it this far, I just need to gather my strength for this final push

These games really aren't meant to be marathoned. Not only do I think it's important to pace your playthroughs and maybe even take breaks, but also to remember that they often come out a year or two between each other. Burnout will happen, and will mar your enjoyment of the games.

Yeah, after CS4 i haven't been in a rush to play the crossbell games or anything else. Although i'm still waiting on a good sale for 'em.

What games do I need to play before Reverie

The Cold Steel games are the only must-plays. Reverie's main story revolves around Cold Steel characters and lore. Crossbell characters are featured, but the main story isn't about them at all. Lloyd's route is completely filler. Crossbell lore does get some spotlight in the postgame Reverie Corridor content. Reverie also has some fanservice for the Sky games, but they have zero plot relevance whatsoever. Actually the fanservice can be a little disappointing because several characters from Sky show up, but they're not playable this time, despite this game having the largest cast of playable characters.

When you start up Reverie, click the backstory/summary menu and read the 3 & 9 book. It introduces two brand new party members in Reverie and only takes about an hour to read.

Anyone suggesting that Sky FC is a better game than any of the Cold Steel games is a retard.

Regarding reverie sky+cs are the most important ones regarding story but I would play zero and ao too. you still control that cast around 1/3 of time (and are better games than CS ones)

Gameplay-wise Trails games are becoming increasingly better with each arc (Sky - Crossbell - Cold Steel). Sky games gameplay in particular felt little more than dull filler to me, maybe except 3rd where you get access to more equip options and some really op characters.

Sadly I am more and more dissatisfied with the plot/characters/dialogue side of things

I really enjoyed the second half of Sky FC's plot, about the military coup, though the first two Cold Steel games had a great plot throughout as well. The biggest issue with FC is that the combat and character building is incredibly dull, the sidequests are mediocre, the first 20 hours of the story are boring until chapter 3, and aesthetically and setting wise, Liberl is very boring.

i think pilgrimage from sky works much better as excuse to learn about your country and people you are supposed to protect than "draw random number from hat - you go there for weekend" from cs. also estelle and josh actually learn to interract and work together with their countrymen instead of just your speshul elite classmates everytime.

Travelling around the entirety of Liberl and Crossbell on foot in a single day made it feel small. Too small. You have to question where the food is coming from to feed these hundreds of NPCs, because it sure isn't coming from that one farm in Rolent or that one farm in Armorica village. Erebonia in CS1 felt vast because you had to take an hours long train ride to get anywhere (and presumably rode past offscreen towns), and despite this huge distance covered, you only visited the Eastern half of the empire. Ofcourse this was diminished in CS2 when you walk 1/3rd the width of the empire from Celdic to Garrellia Fortress in a single day, but it still felt like a big fantasy world.
