Shouldn't there be more NPCs since it's a completely new engine? With better face animations and lipsyncing? IIRC New Vegas had more comparably ugly potatofaces, each running several AI packages, even though FNV was programmed as a 2-threaded application at best.

Nobody has really mentioned a super relevant thing about the trailer: they're clearly embracing the thing that made New Vegas such an important game. Substantial, story-changing responsiveness to different ways of playing. I don't know whether it will be deeper than "puppy kicker vs. orphan rescuer", but I suspect it will. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how far off the rails I can go. Wonder if I can finish a playthrough without ever pushing the attack button.

It would be worth a playthrough at least to try that. What worries me is the writing team and their ability to provide plausible reactions of the world to player actions which can keep the plot going and at the same time not take the player out of his character and into a critic's role.

I mean shit like the pseudo-reactivity with Eothas in the PoE 5.0 patch, and many other examples from Deadfire I can cite.

I don't know anything about the writing team, or the differences between NV's writers and this group. Really I doubt writing is a potential problem ... any writer can at least come up with a few different endings for every quest. I'm more concerned with the level of resources put into scripting and implementation, actually getting all those ideas into the game. If they're bragging so hard about reactivity in this trailer, it might mean they put in the investment. Maybe not of course, but I'll at least want to check it out.

Honestly, even if moment-to-moment writing isn't great, I enjoy any game where I can see a substantial impact of my playstyle.

Their narrative approach is really intriguing.

It’s just a shame the game looks so boring to play, that enjoying the narrative possibilities and reactivity might just become too much of a chore.

You're not wrong; on the other hand, we've only seen action trailers and shooting gameplay, because what else can they substantially show off? It's certainly possible that's all there is, but I'm finding it difficult to envision any trailer or gameplay preview capturing the things I liked about NV. Basically I can't know whether the important stuff is there until I play it.
