Okay so I've been playing a bit. Is the whole game Obsidian trying to be funny with the writing? There's a difference between something being funny and something trying to be funny.

Only time I laughed so far was when I retrieved the book for Max.
I haven't gotten too far yet. But they really are trying to be funny. I fucking swear the writers binge watched Rick and morty and said, hey lets take new vegas and cram rick and morty in there as best we can. rick and morty is probably one of the worst shows ever made.

I'm playing as a corporate man. I'll do anything for the corporation. If it doesn't benefit my corporate masters. Then the streets will run red with the blood of my enemies.

sadly this is what happens when you have 8 mediocre writers instead of 1 writer on amphetamines

Fun fact you can't name your character Louie in The Outer Worlds because they don't want you to potentially RP as an anti-revolutionary, dead monarch. You can however plays as Louis even though that would be closer to the French King's actual name.

no wonder game is just 37 gb, you land on same planets and fight same enemies all the time
kotor1 had more variation in its vistas tbh

also companions are very uneven. if Ellie was beginning companion I'd like game more because at least she has a lot more to say and has a more laid back attitude. on the other hand Felix feels like an empty shell of a companion.
Ellie and Toto Robot or Vicar seems like okayish option.

But seriously the writing breaks down so hard if you even slightly deviate from this game's quests. All these people lauding the game for allowing you to do things your own way clearly haven't tried downright ignoring people.

Consider this:

I take Indian girl with me on the power regulator quest, accept to Reed's proposal, totally ignore the deserters (I mean never talking to them at all, never learning about their condition because i shut down indian girl whenever she wanted to tell me about them), re-routed the power to the deserters completely out of convenience's sake (because i knew where the regulator was in edgewater and that was easier for me) Killed Reed and stole his regulator, and once i'm back at the ship (a ship which indian girl has already seen btw, but still acts like it's her first time getting dicked) and tells me how compassionate i am for showing the deserters mercy. The paragraph where she tells me i'm "compassionate" sits neatly between two paragraphs which describe me as psychotic and having a violent streak. It is COMPLETELY out of place, and even a writing novice would spot the inconsistency. Most of the game is like that when you go the ignore/psychopath/selfish route.

Riiiiight, because they are not discussing the combat system, itemization and reactivity of TOW. So much depth and they waste their time on politics.

I mean, the game has quite a good reactivy. The companions talked a lot mid dialogue , never saw something similar at least not so frequent, it's a great way to make like they exist in the world beyond being your personal minions, maraunder outfit being noticed in Edgewater or how much the game react that you already talked with X NPC.
Reactivity is definitely one of the strongest points, game even notices a lot of small things.

like ...
your dick!?
I could not help myself :despair:

The companion in this game can actually have a conversation with NPCs if you bring them with you. It's the first time I actually feel like I'm talking with NPC along side a companion, instead just having them say one or two sentences every once a while.

Also it has the best Chinese localisation I've ever seen in any video game, way better than all those AAA titles out there.

I really don't the hate of Parvati quest.. It's fine/ok quest, i can see why could be cringe and it seems you can say to her turn down all this idea about Junlei. Idk

Maybe i dont hate it because i'm subhuman and lose my shit when comes to romance. The quest is relatable to me. Just end me :negative:

Also an empty shell of a character. It is like someone has been given an explanation on what to write, and so they did. With words.

At least on Parvati, there was cringe, so there's some emotion she gets from players.

You know like, when it comes say to Bioware, at least you know what to expect, and at the very least you get some amusement. Here it's just nothing.

It's a romance quest, on top of that it's a lesbian romance quest. What do you expect from codex.

"SJW" stuff is annoying when it hits you over the head with a hammer or characters feel like walking billboards. I don't think Parvati is like that at all. The "asexual" thing is subtle, takes a lot of talking to her to get to and is never actually pointed out directly as far as I know. It's basically the same as Veronica being a lesbian in New Vegas, which was also fine. Honestly 9 times out of 10 games are relatively subtle and restrained on this stuff (with exceptions like Baldur's Gate tranny and whatnot). It's really the gaming media that is super fucking annoying about it, and who trigger people.

But she's realistic. Because negros IRL don't have much personality. "Alchoholic PTSD hunter".

Also Ellie is a complete degenerate piece of garbage. She was given every advantage possible (money, education ECT) and ended up being the lowest kind of person and instead of respecting her parents choice to disown her she robs them? At least if she stayed dead her parents would have gotten something out of that waste of 18 years.

She seems like she was written by a teenage girl with daddy issues and a two digit I.Q "Fuck you dad" the character.

- MCA: ok... but why?

- Well Parvati she's like asexual
- MCA: ok... but why??
- WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHY

Her whole personal quest is dis shit!
well and she likes wrenches I guess. :shitposting:
this is fuken awaful companion writing.

Also Ellie is a complete degenerate piece of garbage.
I didn't do her quest yet, just carried her around and her comments are like ok. Maybe you're right.

I'm past the first area and things may change down the line, but if this is what leftist think a corporation ruled world is they are either very, very stupid and uneducated or just trolling (or some meta commentary). The whole set up is like a communist regime took straight out of eastern Europe and changed the Party with The Board. I'm actually curious to finish the game just to see how delusional the writers are.

I do agree with this. The "capitalism run amok" stuff can be funny, but every once in a while you have a character basically say "freedom" is communism, which is... a take, I guess.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I don't understand what's dark about burial fees. Burial is very expensive irl, with monument and taking care of the grave in thousands dollars territory. This business is also often prone to criminal activity.
So in game these fees is basically insurance pay that cover your burial by corporation you work in. Considering you're a colonist on a dangerous planet, what's so immoral about it?
Yet when streamers see this, they're like OH GOD, THEY PAY FOR THEIR GRAVES??
yes, you do pay for your graves, your relatives anyway when you die.

This is a hilarious example of the straight-out-of-college wise-ass writers having no fucking clue about real life.

Yes, you pay graveyard fees in real life because municipalities have to cover maintenance and gravekeeper wages. Christ.

Quick explanation for "people" who don't understand why the Pvarti quest/character is bad.

We are railroaded into not only condoning the mental illness homosexuality but also taking part in facilitating it, this is evil. At no point can we say "Did you know you are mentally ill? How can you be trusted to repair my ship?"

If this game had good writing we'd be able to fix her illness. Oh if you tell her to "Focus on your work" then it breaks her character and she can't talk to you anymore and it says she dies in her ending even if she is alive.
