Except it's a bullshit token. Complete extremity plot-wise, that gets over-focused in development, then teased at every opportunity, all the while several more reasonable solutions to various quests get completely neglected, and from what I've seen so far, TOW is a sad testament to that mentality.

I don't defend TOW's setting inconsistencies, but judging by flora and fauna of first planet, there was no such thing as sterilization of planet or even if there was - it's done really poorly. And in these conditions, any bacteria or virus that adapted to live inside of tuna will be more dangerous than scurvy. Although dying from scurvy in age of space travel is pretty retarded anyway, I agree.

After finishing the game, I have come to the conclusion that while nothing is really good in the game except some of the art design (whoever disagrees needs to go and drown themselves) the main issue is that the writing/narrative design is so poor. Had it not been then the other aspects mediocrity could probably have been forgiven, like they have many times before.
In order for Obsidian to have a chance to write something passable in the future I have come up with the following 1-step guide:
This is an issue for every single character and faction in the game and it makes the game’s narrative and writing thoroughly unenjoyable. It is required for practically any sort of writing: jokes, satire, social critique, drama etc. and it is missing.
Is this something that the current writing team at Obsidian can accomplish? I don’t know, have they tried? Perhaps the problem unironically is that the team isn’t diverse enough and could be solved by hiring some ideological opponents (regular ass men would do honestly) to critique the writing.
More likely however is that the team just isn’t able to do this kind of writing and that it would be much better for Obsidian to pivot towards creating (erotic?)dating sims set in an offices filled with middle/upper-middleclass progressive/liberal Californians, since inside baseball seems like the only thing they are capable of.
In order for Obsidian to have a chance to write something passable in the future I have come up with the following 1-step guide:
- If you are designing a character or a faction, make sure that you could pass an “ideological Turing test” for both the character and the opposite point of view and their view of the character/faction; otherwise you won’t be able to create interesting situations/challenges/conflicts for that character/faction and the resulting narrative will be unengaging. In other words, make sure you understand the point of view of whatever you are writing about and the opposing point of view.

Yeah, didn't wanna spoil but fuck it, that reveal is so retarded it makes me laugh. Right, that's why I just don't understand the entire quest. It's just bad, through and through. It wasn't thought out really well, just like it's ecosystem. You're seeing these big, burly fucking primate aliens, and Canids bigger than most breeds of dog, yet...where the fuck are they getting their food? Humans? They're at the bottom of the barrel of energy efficiency. There's no herbivore in sight, it's like they're stuck with this mentality that 'big monsters with dunkleosteus jaws is perfect', yet there's no armored herbivore to counter this. It's like they forgot herbivores can also be extremely aggressive and territorial as fuck. Laughed as well when I found out these Primal Behemoths were gorging on a tiny bat creature.

This game is great , i hope for Obsidian will get positive tons of money from Microsoft to develop it into the long series of games , like Elder Scrolls or modern Fallouts. I like Obsidian attitude more, than present Bethesda. Todd Howard and his guys for now looks for me like losing sharp Edge and become mmo everything and nothing at once dealers. Big publisher who runs a lot of online services would already have that kind of word filter implemented in their games, so there is literally no reason for Obsidian to do it themselves.
