Sony Group acquires Amber Japan, officially steps into crypto exchange arena

https://cryptobriefing.com/sony-crypto-exchange-acquisition/

Key Takeaways

  • Sony Group has officially entered the crypto exchange market by acquiring Amber Japan.
  • Amber Japan was involved in a speculated debt-to-equity deal following the FTX collapse.
The latest move comes as part of Sony’s strategy to diversify its portfolio, which already boasts a market value exceeding $100 billion. Sony has been exploring the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain in gaming for the past few years.

In March 2023, Sony filed a patent for an “NFT Framework for Transferring and Using Digital Assets Between Games Platforms”. This outlines a system for using NFTs cross-platform, including features like NFT-locked gameplay, limited-use in-game tasks, and rewarding players with NFTs.

I wouldn't want a remake, especially by Bluepoint. But a simple, straightforward remaster. Anything more than that can be done better by modders, with more respect for the art design.

IT'S FUCKING OVER :negative:

  • Soon, Xbox Game Pass for Console will be shuttered for new users only.
  • Users currently on Xbox Game Pass for Console will be allowed to maintain their subscription, as well as day one games, and the hundreds of titles in the back catalogue.
  • New users on Xbox Game Pass in the near future will be greeted by a new Xbox Game Pass "Standard." This is more like EA Access, which includes Xbox's back catalogue, and doesn't include day one games. This will be priced at $14.99 per month, and will also include Xbox Live Gold for multiplayer (now known as Game Pass Core, confusingly). It doesn't include Xbox Cloud gaming. Game Pass Standard is supposedly launching in September.
  • From September 12, 2024, Microsoft will only allow users to stack Xbox Game Pass for Console users for up to 13 months, using pre-paid cards and the like, which will continue to function. If you have more than 13 months stacked already, you won't be impacted.
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will not be changed, but it will get a price increase. It will still include PC Game Pass, day one games, and hundreds of back catalogue titles, as well as cloud gaming. But, it is getting a price increase. The new price will be $19.99 per month.
  • PC Game Pass is also getting a price increase, from $9.99 per month to $11.99.
  • PC Game Pass will also continue to get day one games.
  • Xbox Game Pass Core (Xbox Live Gold multiplayer) gets an annual price increase to $74.99 from $59.99, but it will remain $9.99 per month.
  • The price increases are global. You can view the new prices for your region here.
  • For users with recurring billing, the new prices will take effect on September 12, 2024, giving you time to cancel if you don't fancy it.
  • UPDATE: Microsoft now has a support page up dedicated to these changes over here.

Edit: looks like PC gamepass will still get day-1 games at least.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Seems they are really screwing over their loyal console fanbase (of what they have left). Interesting business approach :)

Seems like the best deal you're going to get now is to stack up 36 months' prior to 12 September either by buying cheap 3 month Gamepass core passes via VPN or key reselling sites (for some reason 3 month passes give more bang for the buck than other levels) if you're currently subscribed to Gamepass Ultimate or if you're not subscribed buying 12 month core passes and then subbing to Ultimate (3 12 month passes would give 2 years Gamepass Ultimate at the current conversion rate).

No Xbox? Have no fear with Amazon Fire TV Stick

Scrapping Day One releases for new Xbox owners who can only afford Game Pass Standard is just another sign that the Xbox as a console platform is no longer central to Microsoft's gaming strategy. If I understand it correctly, PC gamers who don't buy Xbox hardware will get Day One on a Standard subscription while someone who pays $400-$500 for an actual Xbox Series X unit will only get Day One if they pay even more to get the Ultimate subscription.
Looks as if they are going to try to get as much as they can from new Xbox owners before they exit the hardware biz for good.

New PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue titles leak, including Crisis Core: FF7 Reunion
A selection of July’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue titles have seemingly leaked.

Writing on Dealabs, ever reliable dataminer billbil-kun published a list of six titles expected to be added to the subscription service this month.

The following games will reportedly be made available for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members on July 17:

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
Remnant II
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Enhanced Edition
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
No More Heroes 3
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Complete Edition
The leaker also expects Remnant: From the Ashes to be among this month’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue titles, but so far they’ve been unable to confirm this.

Sony is reportedly planning to announce this month’s full line-up on July 10.

Best deal is to stop being a retard, buy/build a PC, cancel all subscription services, and be selective about what you buy instead of being a slop consumer.

GP Ultimate works for me because it includes PC gamepass - the Xbox component is good for the kids so they can stay out of my mancave and have a reasonable selection of games to play in the lounge room without annoying me all the time.

Let's stop pretending that console hardware is in any way special.

Microsoft doesn't - that's why they have two models designed to two different price points - both from standard PC parts. Sony will soon follow suit with PS5 Pro.

Amazon Luna costs corporation a fraction of cost of Xbox / GamePass to run - and they even allow you to run your GOG copy of some games on Amazon devices or in the cloud. Sure - free selection of GOG games included in Amazon Prime subscription is not amazing but the corporation is free to invest / divest from this part of the business as they see fit, always making some profit because they don't have huge fixed costs.

From corporate point of view, not having to 'win' console war and still catching part of market of parents willing to pay X$ a month so their kids will stop bothering them - is ideal. Why run huge marketing campaign and subsidize the branded but otherwise completely bland hardware, when you can just convince people to subscribe for a month to check hot new game on your service on their hardware ?
