Reading this thread makes me want to play this game, but the crazy price point and DLC bullshit is making me wary. Sigh.

I went for voodoo since I'm a sucker for magic. It's a bit of a lackluster, but it gets the job done... I just wish they'd put a bit more effort into voodoo, like a direct damage spell involving a doll and a needle. Would that be too hard?
That's not putting more effort in it, that's going with the most bland possibility imaginable.

Exactly! If I could brofist you, I would. I noticed a lot of the professional reviewers also pointed out the lack of direct damaging spells as a criticism. That's why we can't have nice things. Direct damaging spells are the laziest, most predictable spell design you can think of.It seems that PB took a different route with the voodoo magic and this aspect alone makes me want to go out and buy the game. I only wish they had developed it further because it seems like the voodoo spells are very limited in number.

Yeah, but if you go down the voodoo path with little to no fucking points spent in blade like I did then you get to eat shit.

The rod of power doesn't work on most enemies early on because you need an ungodly amount of points in Black Magic for it to work on hard enemies. (The same goes for the rod of fear).
You don't get the death cult item until much later.
Curse dolls aren't worth dick if you can't damage the enemy.

At least Risen had a couple of "lazy", useful, spells to go with the quirky spells so that you wouldn't get completely raped later on.

But oh well, I just went and got a couple of points into blade and that sorted it out.

I finished the game. Clocked in at ~20 hours according to the saves. Missed like 6 treasures and 5 companions(?!?!) somehow.

I'd say the game is about as good as risen. It doesn't quite reach the same heights of goodness as the best parts of risen, but never sinks as low as the worst parts. A lot more even, for all the good and bad that entails. It's also a shame the difficulity curve is fucked up and the game just stops introducing more powerful enemies almost as soon as you're halfway through. I guess that is what happens when the structure of the game is as it is.

Last boss probably would have been challenging if my curse doll hadn't reduced it to a quivering pile of jelly though.

Aeschylus : Crazy price point? For a big RPG? It certainly seems worth it (9 hours in).
26 hours in and definitely far from completion, so far I love this game as I loved Risen and Gothic series.

As for the DLC: Haven't devs stated that there will be no DLCs, apart from pre-order ones? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they did.

The game picks up slowly, but when shit opens up, it's fucking sweet. It's fun, addictive and the voodoo path is full of lulzy dialogues <3 I love how the main character insists on calling his voodoo dolls "action figures". And possession is fun. I don't know how the Inquisiton path plays out, but the voodoo one is really fun so far.

I love all of the choice and consequence in the game!

The one part where one Corientes sends you to kill a "defector" who fled during battle with the pirate captain Garcia and his men... If you take him back to the Inquisition guys on the beach it's quickly revealed that Corientes in Garcia in disguise! But you can also shoot the "defector" and never know what happened until it's too late and Garcia springs a trap on you.

It's also possible to discover Garcia's identity by finding the naked bodies of the lost Inquisition expedition.

An awesome, awesome game.

Wait what?
I found the bodies and asked around a lot about them, but I never came to that conclusion. I also totally left the defector in the woods because I couldn't be arsed to escort him back to base camp(it was the final island I did, and I was swimming in gold)

And it just me or is "nuff said" really underused? Think I got 2 prompts to use it throughout the entire game, and I bought it on the first island.

I guess it would be too much of a win button? I'm in Antigua and I've only seen it once so far, where it made sense. It only costs 500 gold, though.

Game is definitely easier than any PB game before it, though I still die plenty. I think the monkeys are bugged - they circle round you, but their radius is so short you can just keep hacking away and the character autotargets with his sword. If they were circling just beyond your reach, they would be pretty tricky enemies in their own right, especially if you're trying to use muskets. Hope they patch that, can't be too difficult.

Any of you bros know how to deal with this pistol shooting mini-game? Even turning it down to easy the shit moves so fast and my mouse moves so sluggishly that I can only score 1-2 hits.

This is the only thing I have not liked about the game so far. The pistol minigame eats dick, the other 25 hours I've played, touch my dick.

The thing about such 'arcade' games is that it's different for everyone - I still find it tricky on Hard, but on easy I can get 90% now. My method: keep your cursor on the far end (e.g. the palm tree) and your eyes, too; check which height it's being thrown from using your peripheral vision, but focus on lining it up at the far end rather than trying to follow it all the way with your hand and eye.

Fuck, i'm stuck. I'm supposed to sabotage 4 cannons in Puerto Isabella, but 3 of them are guarded 24/7 by one guy, and i can't get rid of him. What should i do? Halp bros. You're my only hope.

i sabotaged them in front of him, then beat the shit out him and the problem resolved itself

I dunno, i'm dieing plenty. The only things who don't kill me are the monkeys. I had to re-do the
fight against the four pirates at the tower on the third island
like 10 times... never died so much in Risen 1. It may be just me though, i barely put any skill points in sword. Went thief all the way.

Anyway, is my game bugged, or you don't get any red cross on the main map, only on the ground? Because finding treasures is almost impossible to me like this.

you need to go to logbook, check the treasure you want and then "mark on the map" or something.

Yep, treasures are actually way easier than R1 when you use map marker + logbook - I think I might not use the markers, or just use them once to get a general area so I'm not combing 50km of beach, then turn it off.

I dunno, i'm dieing plenty.

If you mean the one where you have Steelbeard & Patty with you, well... I always thought PB combat gets weird when you have allies on your side, because the targeting system can't handle it very well and you just end up kiting and sneaking in hits while your (unkillable) allies soak it up. I *was* impressed by a later fight where you learn just what happens when you piss off NPCs with muskets.

In general, though, I leave Patty on the ship/whatever, almost feel like cheating when PB games give me NPC followers.

Fighting animals is ruining my game experience, if those fuckers get to hit you, it's pretty much the same to instantly reload because it's damn hard to interrupt them and you can't even dodge the attacks. Can't imagine wtf they were thinking.

Yeah, I traveled alone as well. Until I got that gnome in my party. His comments are just too funny to miss them

Really? R2 enemies don't 'stunlock' you at all - it's easier to get out of being hit than in pretty much all other PB games. Remember the R1 wolves and *shudder* G3 vanilla wolves? Sure, if you get hit once, you'll probably get hit twice or even three times, but that's how it goes when you hit them, too. When you get used to it you can use jump and normal movement (and sprint) to manage the distance. It's not about standing toe to toe and dodging attacks (pretty hard to do that, I'd imagine, against a giant crab), but managing how and when you close or make distance to your advantage.

I agree that the animals are pretty stupid and the combat is a lot weaker there, but there are a lot of things you can do, even before guns/muskets/etc, to manage that.

I think the sabotage quest is bugged somehow. You're probably supposed to be able to lure him away with voodoo or other stuff.

I took Patty with me for most of the game. She was a very useful meatshield/secondary damage source until I got the wave dancer. But at that point the enemies were so strong that all the companions went down in just a few hits anyway.

The worst animals imo are the fire birds, those fuckers are relentless and fast as lightning. I think how "stunned" you get depends partially on how much damage you take from each hit, so with more toughness you'd probably get stunned shorter.

The treasure chart quests are so weird. A painted 'x' just appears somewhere on the island, and you can't really know where unless you use quest compass. Thankfully this is the only time you "have" to use the quest compass, but it's annoying regardless.

Funny thing, apparently most of the people ordering the Special-Special-Complete-Edition called "Stahlbart's Schatz" or something didn't even get their DLC codes from Amazon or other Retailers (it wasn't in the package) and it's 3 days after Release. They're complaining on certain sites including their official forums...
http://forum.deepsilver.com/forum/s...lle-Notiz-tempel-der-Lüfte-(nicht-vorhanden-)
In this thread for instance there's a few replies from Deep Silver guys: http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1139995-DLC-Tempel-der-Lüfte/page4

The first guy a few days ago said something like:
Well Amazon.de got the Codes from us...
Maybe they want to keep them for themselves. :)

And there's a new reply from today:
We are sorry, that you are still waiting for your Codes. :( We are talking with Amazon from our side. As Ni Mhaille wrote before, Amazon is a big company and at the moment we can't really do anything to speed up the process.

The Codes will likely arrive soon. I don't know either if Amazon is counting calendary or workdays.

All the while the pirated game apparently has all content available.

Well...

You have to find the lone Voodoo master in the woods and talk to him about the bodies.
