Turn right after Alpha Centauri
I don't know if I can keep going. I'm in Blue Mountain, which is where I stopped in the old version, and for the same reason: the combat is really, really bad. Even after the redesign. Use your elite, spam your primary weapon's skill until you're out of energy, spam your secondary weapon's skill while it recharges, repeat every fight ad nauseum. It's a shame because there's a lot to like about the game, but the combat is unbelievably bad.

That's what you get for restricting a character to a mere 7 skills.

Sounds sad. :(

This just proves that this game can only be enjoyed on the long run if people don't care about the combat at all and can ignore how monotonous it is.

Although an advocate for the game, I can't honestly say I disagree with Night Goat. The new interface has not fundamentally changed the combat system. I'm playing the SWL with friends so it's fun anyway, but that's neither here nor there.

so, being a scientist and shit, watching videos wasn't enough and i had to try it firsthand.
the triskster, spamming aoe builder, made the horrible mouse driven combat bearable. then, after some more tutorial, i had the chance to see all the skills.
WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL MY SKILLS? holy fucking shit, just a fistful of faceless skills. i was so disheartened that i hadn't courage to check if they even have some interaction between them (even if underpowered, i loved my old pistol-chaos build which spawned magical pointy fences under everybody's feet).

i don't know if i want to give this a real chance.

also i thought tying the old account to the new one would have given me all the weapon trees automatically unlocked, instead i'm supposed to pay for them, really am i?

You should get those free, did you link through account page + get it on your character from delivered items? Have to play through the tutorial(s) first :M

i had to click on some obscure and hidden button about retrieving VANITY ITEMS TO UNLOCK WEAPON SKILLS.
but anyway the more i look at the skill poles (because they're definitely not trees) the sadder i get.

If anyone stops to truly look at the gear upgrade system, it's obvious it exists just to feed the in-game store with real money.

Leveling your weapons to past purple quality, for a f2p or even patron player, is a gigantic grind, much more than any other mmo I have played, be it wow, ffxiv or ESO.

Funcom doesn't give a shit, the game exists to promote the cash shop, and the grind at 50 will only lead to a massive player turn over, as they slowly finish the story and leave... Assuming people bother to finish Egypt, which is one of the low points in the game coming from New England.

i gathered all the courage i could get and ventured through the skills.
they have NO INTERACTION WHATSOEVER. they're either exactly the same (consume 3, do exactly x damage) or have very very little side usefulness with the skills of the same weapon, while the passive are +x to stat or direct upgrades to an active skill. there's no creativity to be had here, you select skills from only one group of only one weapon, take the relative passive upgrades and stick to that.

this is an andromeda level of dumbing down disaster.

edit: and i forgot to mention that the skill system actively discourages mixing weapons and experimenting because of this absence of synergy and because weapons earn xp, the more you use the same type of weapons the +crit and +crit dam you get.
retardation over 9000.

Noticed that as well, I picked a trickster, with a focus on chaos and pistols.

It's not worth it to even put points into chaos before maxing out pistols. The solo experience is shit easy, the story dungeons don't even need roles, and apart from a few dps checks like the one in the ankh, they are faceroll.

So pistols are more than enough to cruise through the game, don't even need self heals.

One thing to report - even with the dumbing down, Black Goat Woods is still a fucking nightmare!

The problem with the combat here is the problem with the combat in virtually every other mmo, its based on rotations and cooldowns, theres no room for creativity there. That said, it can be fairly enjoyable if your character is worth a shit, or a nightmare if it isnt.

Skill system is too limited, 5 skills and 5 passives is horrible, you slot everything you HAVE to slot and theres no room for anything else, there should be more room for tinkering. That said i enjoy how the skills are structured and the depth it has. Its not terribly complicated but it can give you a few days to get right. Also because its so hard to get every skill theres a lot that isnt known about the system at the moment.

Story is great, Solomon island is probably the worst part, out of which kingsmouth is the best. But picks up in Egypt, and Transylvania is great. In Solomon island you shouldnt miss Tylers freeborn chain, its pretty good. Puzzle quests are the best part of the game. I have also heard great things of Tokyo, but it still isnt on the game.

Itemization is meh (as meh as TSW was), its there to be enjoyable at first but a real pain when you want to max out everything, the game is blatantly p2w in that respect. Thing is, you have to ask yourself: "To win what exactly?" and realize it doesnt matter, at all.
Extraordinary weapons have interesting effects and you can definitely build around them, which is great. But talismans have shit effects and most of them are insultingly insignificant.

Economy is interesting, AH limit has had a big impact on prices, stuff is worth a shit. Also more interesting, theres trading, actual trading in the game, its pretty interesting and im hoping it isnt lost. I still say inventory space is too limited, the option to increase it via MoF should be open and the price scaling shouldnt happen until a decent inventory is achieved. Funcom doesnt get that they are asking anyone that isnt DPS to have an extra set of gear in their inventory at all times.

Daily challenge atm is the single worst thing the game has going for itself, it rewards the worst kind of behavior and needs to get changed asap.

DUNGEONS
General
  • The Item Power requirements to enter the elite 2-9 dungeons have been reduced. This is a balance we want to maintain and will be updating these requirements based on feedback in the future as well.

  • The final boss’s Dungeon Reward Chest will no longer interfere with the final cutscene.

  • The operator is more closely watching the saboteur, and will now announce every time an explosive device is placed, instead of just the first time.
  • Leaving a scenario after the final boss has been killed will no longer apply Deserter.

so, the old TSW can't be bought anymore? Just looking through Steam mind you.

Downloaded Legends, but haven't even touched it. Just wanted some nice Cthulu slaying, solo. But this seems like candy crush with zombies

Eh, you wont notice unless you keep playing past the story, and there really isnt any reason you should be doing that.

Thing is, between this shit and the release of PoEs new expansion a lot of people will have an excuse to jump ship, and no matter what game, the less population you have, the less people are willing to spend on your game. They are hurting their bottom line because people will think "if i want to play this game i have to sub, i dont want to sub just to play this game" instead of thinking "im having fun playing this game, lets sub", which the point of f2p. This is basic shit.

i can confirm.
i'm a poor, broke, cheap bastard. warframe never asked me for a dime and i gave him moneym while i'll never pay for this.

on a related note, the damn depression which thrives on repetition and known rituals made me stick on this. story and writing are still good, haven't been touched. the ride to level 50 is short and then, after that, lacking the whole tokyo, there's the abyss. there's even only 1 pvp map which gives the same reward wether you win or lose.
but yeah, priority was robbing froobs of their money.

PLEASE make a single player cRPG in this setting.... Please...

:negative:
We are wishing this for years, but I don't see any chance as long as imcompetent shareholders are controlling Funcom, who still haven't realised that the MMO bubble has burst years ago.

i stumbled upon a showstopping bug DURING THE FUCKING MAIN QUEST. (mostly because it uses the old crafting system which has been axed who knows why)
oh well, no biggie, i'll write a petition, after all even the launcher says gms are always online and ready to help.
after a whole day of waiting i've been told that petitions take on average, ON AVERAGE, 10 days to be answered. not even the pentagon takes 10 days to answer.
