Can someone change the title for this thread? Beyond the 'u', it's a stupid fucking question. Might as well ask 'what's the cheapest thing you can afford?', or 'who's the hottest girl you haven't seen naked?' Non-retarded alternatives (some semantically differences):

1) What's the toughest rpg you've played?
2) What rpg's haven't you been able to beat?

Have somebody managed to beat Kangaxx without the so called cheese tactics(turning in to Slayer, buying protection scrolls).
The first time i met Kangaxx, i was nearly finished with the game and only had the elven city left. That was the only time i killed him without traps.

Kangaxx can be defeated by waiting around in the corridor outside until his buffs die off and then using summoning spells.

But he has them unlimited number(I think, at least) of mazing spells. No saving throughs, no nothing. He casts them and youre just gone. I thought the only way through that was either Slayer or a protection scrolls, but I may be wrong.

His "Trap the soul" can be blocked outright with Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Enrage and Barbarian Rage, or soaked for a while with any spell/ability that deflects/absorbs spells, or you could just blast him with a Comet or Dragon's Breath. He's also not immune to stun or anything, so you could just whack him with Celestial Fury.

Celestial Fury and the holy avenger on super haste plus the ring of the ram for a finishing blow. It works, but sometimes a few freedom spells are needed.

I played Final Fantasy on the NES before I could read, and usually died fighting Garland. Once I think I beat him but the game had to be returned that day.

I remember giving up right at the end of Pools of Darkness when I finally (after a crap load of reloads) managed to somehow defeat a huge horde of dragons and beholders and then discovering another wave appears...

I also had to buy the cluebook for Bard's Tale II (this was in the days before the net) because some of the riddles were so esoteric they were just impossible to work out.

Is it even possible?
Is it?

It is.
I did.

I had to use a walkthrough. AND IT WAS STILL THE FUCKING HARDEST GAME ON THIS SIDE OF THE MULTIVERSE.
If you know someone who didn't use one... pray and kneel, you've met the lord of RPGs.

Those fucking Nostrums in Demise pissed me off.
Everytime you got hit, there was a chance of stoning one or more of the party members, killing him instantly. And since dying in demise is so unforgiving, i was scared shitless of these monsters.
The creatures being randomly placed, you didn't know where i could get a stoning bastard like the Nostrum.

Having unfortunately missed the absurdly difficult RPGs of yesteryear, the best I can do here is the hezrou in ToEE. Yeah, the balor was tough, but that motherfucking frog beast was incredibly aggravating--and didn't even give XP because of an error in its challenge rating. Ripoff!

Whoops, and I spent countless hours making it harder and closer to the D&D sourcebooks for CO8... hehe

(but then the removal of the level cap and load more XP was the reason it was done)

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Anyone interested in making a Let's Play for Wizardry 4? We could give it the title "Wizardry 4, or: How to die in the first five minutes of playing the game"

Since when is "buying protection scrolls" a cheese tactic anyway.

Reminds of that time a DM on an NWN PW accused me of being a cheater because I used Protection From Evil to resist his Drow NPC Wizard's mind spells, r00fles.

I don't know, mang. You buy the scroll of Protection From Undead and vampires, that are supposed to be the most difficult fights, can't even see you, I think.

that inn fight against the sorceror and his two croneis, for example (that wasa fucking tough fight for the level my pc's were)

I can probably introduce you to a few then.

Hardest RPG that I finished was probably Bard's Tale 3. Wizardry 6 wasn't easy either.

Yeah, I always found the previous battle to be harder. What was hard was to keep the whole party alive.
