Probably the best game where you're in a set of power armor. Very weighty, good controls, but has a learning curve. The story's nice, but its told through live-action cutscenes, and there's a lack of locations and everything seems to be dark. Almost like they're trying to hide something, like how cheap it really is.What's next... I guess Terra Nova Strike Force Centauri maybe...?
I've only played UU1 before playing UUII and I didn't have any trouble...Do I need to play Ultima 7 to understand UUII? U7 never interested me too much so I never had the chance to play it. And I especially don't want to play the stuff before 7 either.
I did start playing it a while back, I think before I played UU1, I played through two missions or so. The controls are very similar to UU1/II and SS1. I had a blast circlestrafing around the enemies.Probably the best game where you're in a set of power armor. Very weighty, good controls, but has a learning curve. Should point out though, that I've not yet started either UU, so Terra Nova could be easier to control with that in mind.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was just going to post about this. It is maybe the nicest free game offering from a company since a very very long time. Might want to update the thread title with NOW FOR FREE or something.
Ah excellent, I was looking for a game to break in my new high-end computer. Britannia awaits!
Something that's awesome! There isn't anything quite like it... (except Arx Fatalis, and maybe some others, depending on your criteria that is).Just claimed it, what am I in for?

This smells a lot like a publicity stunt, but hey, offering the two Ultima Underworlds for free is an awesome gesture nonetheless.

Can't speak for the Syndicates - never played them - but the UUs are some of the greatest immersive sims ever made. You're in for a delightful treat.
If you do enjoy them, make sure to check out Arx Fatalis, the game Spukrian mentioned. It's Arkane's best game BY FAR, and has one of the best atmospheres I've ever seen in any RPG.
I finally got this to work today. I had to download winiso because poweriso was not doing the trick for me on the GOG version.Don't forget the mouselook thingy, it was mentioned on this or some other thread here as well.
Would I recommend you play any of these games in the here and now? Probably not! They're historically interesting and I am glad that they are both available outside of EA's Origin, but there are a lot of games to be playing, aren't there? Six or seven, at least.

UU1 movement is done entirely with the mouse, unless you're using the aforementioned mod.UU1 has (almost) literally modern FPS controls (WASDX instead of WASD) lol. Of course the guy at RPG "can't" recommend it, because for game reviewers—unlike actual professional critics/reviewers in other fields—anything released prior to last year is completely archaic and impossible to enjoy.
