So I'm in chapter 3 now, and Jesus Christ.. Who in their right mind thought designing such a huge area where everything looks the fucking same is a good idea? Who thought "fuck yeah let's do this" when they designed the fights at the end of the second chapter, where you are constantly controlling other characters? (those two witchers in the cave with the invisible traps, fuck them)

I'm really trying to give the game a chance, but it's hard not to rage at such shit

Lol, every level is unique and hand crafted. None of them are the same, assets aren't re-used. I've no idea what you're talking about..o_O

It doesn't sound like your cup of tea anyway.

Chapter 3 isn't a huge area...? It's rather linear too.

With using the map markers it was bearable, didn't need to use them before.

Anyway, I've finished it now. Can't say that the game is shit, but I don't find it very good either. I really liked the first chapter in Flotsam, but after that it went downhill with too much politics etc. and the fights became even more retarded. Perhaps I was a bit spoiled with the combat in Dark Souls (I read somewhere CDP were inspired by Dark Souls combat ( ? ) )but in the end it all boiled down to stunlock enemies and get all your hits on it, go to next enemy, rinse and repeat. The end fight (didn't fight Letho, so I mean the Dragon) was underwhelming too. I killed the Dragon, what happens if you let him live? Also, I've read that it's not possible to save both Triss and Roche at the end. Yet, both of them lived and I didn't even consciously do anything to warrant their survival, rushed through the last chapter to just get the game done. I also didn't even bother anymore with Crafting or buying new weapons etc. because the combat was so terrible. Meh. :(

For a few days I've been trying to play this game and now I've finally given up. I'm just too bored to continue. The rails are annoying as hell and I swear to god I can't even take a piss in the game without being interrupted by a cutscene. Mini-games aren't helping my mood at all and Geralt has this dumb empty expression on his face all the time. But. BUT. Above all, I am fucking bored.
Recently I've played Risen 2 and it was a disappointment, but I still finished it and even had fun here and there. I was seriously not expecting to be too bored to finish Witcher 2.

Anybody else had this kind of experience with the game ?

The game is what it is. Learn to enjoy it as a cinematic "Game of Thrones" type of experience, or don't play it.

The minigames are pretty harmless though. They're over quickly enough that you barely notice them.

Yes, of course I'm not gonna' play it if I don't like it.

But what puzzles me is that I can't find anything really wrong with it. There's nothing I hate about it, I even like the combat, but overall, the sum of the parts doesn't keep me interested at all.

How far have you got in the game? The first few hours are indeed full of cutscenes, but the second chapter opens up a bit and lets you do more stuff on your own. There's still going to be a lot of cinematics, but they don't get in the way of gameplay like at the start of the game.

I don't really know if there's a cure for boredom. If the second chapter doesn't get you interested, the rest of the game probably won't do that either.

I had to push myself to continue several times as well, and finally stopped playing at the beginning of the final chapter. I didn't like the combat at all and the politics didn't interest me either, which lead to a pretty boring experience. I can't objectively say what's wrong with the game, though.

To be honest, the whole setting is not that impressive. I remember back in the day, when The Witcher novels started gaining international awareness, I managed to order a novel and a short story collection - the only two books translated to english at the time. They are not that good. Similar in quality to Salvatore's Drizzt series.

Derp fags were masturbating over the mature, gritty story and politics when in fact there are many other better books in the genre.

I'm sure there are, but are there any better games in the genre?

Well, adventuring - just tale a look in the top 25 rpgs thread, but I take it that's not what you meant.

Political meddling - thief series, gothics even Arcanum - it's kind of a loose term. I'm not even sure what Geralt does can be called true political meddling since he is more of a wild card then an actual player.

Grimdark atmosphere - I would go for Clive Barker's Undying.

It's like you're asking me if there is a game with a better story about a witcher. No, but there are games with better story.

Thief has political meddling? o_O The City's politics are notably underdescribed. You know very little of what is going on in the world at large, which increases the mystery of the setting. You know there's a baron and nobles and that's about it.

I want both adventuring and political meddling, and I want to control the meddling I do. Even if it's not full control, I want some choices.

Arcanum is very good and has what I asked for, but you can only play it so many times you know?

The true political powers in The City were the 3 factions - woodsies, hammers/mechs, keepers - and each time you get involved you take them down a peg.

I suppose. You did say the narative gets better at a point I haven't reached yet. Anyway my beef was with gaming journalists that elevate the story and setting from "good" to "Mesiah" level.

That's not politics. Politics is about intrigue, patronage and interests. The Pagans, Hammerites and Keepers are ideological sects, not political factions.

The closest Thief came to dealing with politics was the whole Sheriff Truart subplot in Thief 2.
