Huh, you can find Tamara's doll under Bloody Baron's body. Didn't notice that before.
Anyone who lets the bloody baron die is a terrible person
Saving the children + trolling the crones by releasing the spirit seems fairly prestigious path.

1. The only way you could know they're exclusive options is metagaming.
2. By saving the children you doom an entire village.

Your point being? This should be good, since you've just made your initial post obsolete.

My point is that the bloody baron is a bro and you're a monster

Anyone play this with the FCR3 mod? I'm looking at probably using that plus a few other minor mods on my next playthough. i.e. Friendly HUD, All Quest Objectives on Map, Nitpickers Patch?, etc.

I took a good look at TW3 EE and Ghost Mod, but they add a little too much for my liking.

there is no way to predict which option will kill Baron.

Which obviously means you are a monster if you don't re-load and replay about 6 hours of content :obviously:

Regarding the Baron: is there a way to save his wife + the children + the village?

I'm guessing the answer is no.

I think the best you could get is saving the children and the wife, by resolving the tree spirit quest before even picking up the quest from the crones - you just have to enter the caves beneath the tree on your own. But I don't *quite* remember if it works exactly like that.

Fired Witcher 3 up again, this time with a couple of mods. So I wanted to try out the 2 big combat mods (W3EE and Ghost Mode), but reading their feature lists sours me on them every single time.

W3EE tries to make too many changes to what's mostly a pretty damn good game, and I am gonna trust proven developers more than some modder. On top of that, none of the changes he makes are the changes that the game really needs (for example, changing the quest marker/cookie trail system to something better), just a lot of various things with debatable value. And his combat changes, I don't get at all. He whines about how a Witcher shouldn't look like a ballerina in combat, and yet, every single youtube video of W3EE combat I've ever seen, Geralt twirls around even more. The whole thing seems to revolve around manually selecting attack distance, and bending attacks, and quite frankly, that sounds a lot more boring than the vanilla combat.

Ghost Mode sounds more in-line with the actual game, I dunno, didn't feel like changing it that much, because it's hard to say if I would enjoy all the changes or not.

So I went with a different mod, that I think actually addresses the single biggest issue with W3 combat, the fact that enemies don't defend properly. Enemies of Rivia: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3789/?tab=description

It's a simple light-weight mod that just makes enemies dodge/block/counter more. So after you land an attack or two, they start defending, and if you spam attacks, they will even counter you, staggering and doing damage. So this prevents you from spamming the left mouse button, and now you have to actually doge/counter them before landing hits.

Also intalled this: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/816 to stop those retarded storybook videos every time.

Playing on Death March of course, and the combat is pretty difficult. The game is absolutely beautiful (on Ultra), and the writing and dialogues are top-notch. Very special experience. Only wish I could do something about the markers/cookie trails, but haven't found any good mods for that yet.

I always had the exact same issues with the two mods you mentioned. I didn't know about Enemies of Rivia however. Very interesting, will definitely check it out next time I play through it.

I'd expect Geralt to fight with a lot of movement though. They did a decent job of that. IIRC, school of the wolf's fighting style was described as "part dance" in the books.
In witcher 1, Lambert states:
The techniques for fighting with a silver sword derive from traditional swordsmanship, yet with a few essential differences. No parries and ripostes, mainly steps, evasive moves, pirouettes, and other acrobatics.

saving the baron is the best option
a village is temporary, but a bro is forever

besides, they're probably all going to be killed by nekkers or something a few minutes after you left anyways

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

Doing my second run, after like 4 years, with the Ghost Mode mod. I have 100x more fun with the game now. The mod fixes most of the problems that fucking gnawed at me my entire 100 hour playthrough back in the day, although I think it's not going far enough in rehauling the loot and chardev. Still it's a huge help.

Plus three other simple but amazing mods that make the game sooo much bearable - a reshade mod to tone down the insane colour oversaturation, an autoloot mod (thank fucking god for that one) and insta-Roach (you automatically mount the horse the moment you whistle; summoning Roach is such a pain in the ass otherwise). With all those QoL adjustments the game is truly great.

Ghost Mode is great, I prefer it to other mods. EE does away with the levelling which a blessing and a curse in equal parts. It makes the game more logical but it also utterly fucks up the difficulty curve. The early game makes you wanna shave your head and go shoot up a Walmart and the mid and late game is even a bigger farce than it was in the vanilla since basic bitch mobs are no different from what they were when you were level 1.

To the mods I played I also recommend auto-oil and "Roach never stops".

Why don't you just disable them in the menu?
You can always have objective shown when you bring up the map. That's what I did.
The game was designed with them turned on, sadly. You can count on one hand quests for which NPC's give you genuine directions.

Because of the reason you gave. A game designed for them is nearly unplayable with them turned off.
I was playing Gothic 3 recently(went in with incredibly low expectations) and nearly every quest that would have required some kind of intricate marker instead was designed to lead me there in some way. Either I'd find it eventually because another quest led me there, an NPC would give me directions, there would be some sort of breadcrumbs, or an NPC would escort me there. It really contrasts with games that just throw a marker on your map and expect you to run towards it.

Fired Witcher 3 up again, this time with a couple of mods. So I wanted to try out the 2 big combat mods (W3EE and Ghost Mode), but reading their feature lists sours me on them every single time.

The knight-of-nothing hunches over his computer, the air in the room stale with the notes of semen and alcohol - the smells of loss and regret. There were good reasons for his degradation, or so he told himself. The reasons were also terrifying, however, and therefore had to be hidden away, like buried bodies, all but the vague memory of them obscured. Thus the Ways-To-Remember had to be removed: mirrors, photos, working pest-neurons; and so the knight's stronghold had to be full of broken things and alcohol.

But like an echo from the abyss, the past resonates:

Stop trying to install mods for Witcher 3. It is a great game out of the box, just play on Death March and adjust settings properly (upscaling = on, alternative movement mode = on, etc).

Installing mods is an emergency process, because they often break stuff, and the effort to get everything running takes out from enjoyment to the point where it can sometimes ruin the whole experience. In some cases, it must be done regardless, because the underlying game has fundamental shortcomings that prevent it from being enjoyable. This is not the case with Witcher 3.

The knight staggers, as if from a bad dream. What qualia is this? He thinks to cut off his head for all the pain that suddenly surges through it. No, not mere pain...memories.

He smells blood and ashes. There was a war where principle and pathos met and something surely lost. But what? Images run through his mind, each followed by a pang in his heart: the howling faces of allies and foes, the City of Diz, and power attacks...(what were power attacks? The knight does not know this.)

Until the final revelations strikes him down to his DX Racer King RED Edition gaming chair - that the war that cost him so dearly had never ended. Not for him and not for anyone.

The knight reaches for the bottle, doomed to repeat the cycle of remembrance and regret.

---Coda---

In stupor-accessed Dreamlands, where lights cast from obsidian spires riddled the ethereal sky like bullets, the knight found the Stone-That-Speaks.

"What is the City of Diz?" the knight humbly asked, seeking the Stone's great wisdom.

Much time passed before the answer. Ages? Aeons? An eternity? When the Stone spoke, it was with a booming voice, that rocked even the ancient Eidolons, "My dick and Diz nuts in your face. HEH."

He is talking about the silver sword though, the one used against monsters, so in that context, more movement would make sense, you can't really parry a monster (unless it's using weapons). Combat against humans and humanoids with weapons should be standards HEMA type stuff, yet Gerals prances around just as much.

... wall of text ...

I don't remember what context that comment was made in, and am quite frankly to lazy to look it up, but I imagine it was to somebody trying to do a first playthrough. And it's true, W3 doesn't really need mods, it's a pretty good game without them. I already completed it once, so now, years later, I do want to try with mods, to spice up the experience a bit, but for a first time player, it's nothing like Bethesda games, you don't need to mod it to enjoy it.

Very creative though. If you stopped wasting time here on your fake hatred of me, and wrote a book or something, your ass might have been famous by now.

Their combat style is designed for their heightened reflexes(and of which, Geralt has even better reflexes — Geralt is basically a witcher's witcher)
I can't remember the exact details but it's pretty well laid out in the books.

Like friendships, true rivalries are rare and precious. Why end a good thing?

Sometimes I like to finish on the floor so that I can lick my cummies off it. I find that the linoleum provides a smooth aftertaste with notes of oak, like well-fermented beer aged in a wooden barrel.
