If open world is what I think it is, we don't need another sandbox game, there are more than enough to go around as is.
AQctually not. There are only Bethesda games and they lack too much in quality. Even Obsidian, conceptual first-timers did better with FNV. Finally (let's hope) there will be a competition.
... Which also brings up thoughts of the historical (not fantasy) open-world from Warhorse Studios (here's a video with unfinished and unpolished piece of land made for sake of showing level of graphics the are aiming for - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwnSo9bcIyA)

The point of this post: open-world sandbox-ish RPGs may finally be well done games and not just almost-randomly-generated gambling shit with no story and choices in Bethesda style

Looks pretty and I like the thought of an open world witcher game. Some chapter 4 Witcher 1 type villages with similar "simple" problems (and brilliant music, I loved river of life) would be great.
Yeah, but open-world games usually follow a different formula. Instead of doing your own investigation in some backwater village and eventually getting to know the people there (which is a big part of the charm of TW and TW2), you're usually running all around the map fetching this and delivering that and never staying in one place for long. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but the size of the world doesn't sound too encouraging. Still, if they're putting as much focus on the story as they're saying, the end result might be something a bit different.

Play Betrayal at Krondor bro. It will do you good.

Betrayal at Krondor is... exactly what I described. What's your point?

Because, although it follows the forumla you described it is astoundingly complex and intricate game with ingenious plot where singular sidequests reflect the larger scope of things. In other words it is sandbox storyfaggy game done right. Sure, you don't stay in one place to meet Simpsons, Johnsons and their neighbours, but that's because the scope is different.

In other words "getting to know people" is completely redundant, and can even become quite shallow, when the scope of the story is just too large. Changing the approach may be exactly what TW3 needs.

Well, I don't think BaK is going to be that much of an influence on TW3. A similar approach would be great, but it sounds ike they're shooting for a much more personal story with politics and other large-scale stuff interwoven into the main story about Geralt's hunt for the, uh, Wild Hunt. We'll see how that turns out.

So a team smaller than Bethesda is making a bigger game than Skyrim? Expect a world more empty than Skyrim.

I could use an open world RPG that is bigger than Skyrim with half the content (especially if traversing the world took balls and resources, which TW2 of course won't). Skyrim is choking full of shit every ten feet and while I enjoy the scenery quite a lot, I hate how full it is.

You do realize that you will be able to pivot without any limit, do you?
- Geralt’s dodge roll replaced by a pivot move
This seemed to me to suggest that the pivot was the /dodge from
- Can block/dodge when out of stamina, but you’ll be staggered
Therefore it should be limited. Could be wrong, but I hope not or it will hardly be an improvement on last time.

I loved the TW games and I have sympathy for Geralt, but I really want a no-Geralt TW after this. Where you can define your own Witcher the way you want without the predefined character bullshit. Preferably a tactical TB squad RPG where you can control several characters, maybe several Witchers.

That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that about Skyrim. Interesting perspective.

This would make me play it.

I agree with Villain on that perspective on Skyrim. Same sentiment here.
In order to increase that style as much as possible i never used a horse or a carriage throughout the game. Walked - run everywhere. And also removed smaller locations pointer from the compass - while unfortunately quest compass pointers are mostly unavoidable.

They can make it into series of levels mini hubs with local quests, same way as in Amalur. Fetch mi my fork from cave on the other side of country like in Skyrim will be major :decline: of my imurhsion factor. For all the frak Amalur got It never bored me same way as Skyrim did.

I like most of it, but seriously, how much rage from fans you need to realize people don't want QTEs? Also I want alchemy system from TW1.

The italian one is most bangable. Begs for a sex card :smug:

Uhm, not really, considering that TW3 is the last installment in the trilogy. Unless they simply create another game in the setting with full character customisation.

Pfft, so long as the moneys are flowing, there are no such thing as "the last installments".

But some customization is a given, since half the auditory wants him to be a chick.
