11. Do explain how agriculture, production, industry and trade works so that the world is coherent.

I see Agassi is posting over there.

Your ignore list.
Yup.

And honestly, as sad as this sounds, the eye candy is mainly what drives these games for me anymore. racofer will certainly back me up here: why do I have so many hours logged into Skyrim? It's the mods, the tweaking, the trying to get the thing to look perfect. Of course that'll never happen but Skyrim with enough mods added can be made to be rather attractive. Sure, I have to actually play the game --and to those who complain about Skyrim's dungeons all being the same, there are plenty of surprises you've likely never seen, ones that do keep me going -- but what keeps me coming back is the tinkerer aspect just as much as anything else.

Now, if CDP can manage to balance out the graphics with a decent enough RPG, the equivalent of some substantive cake underneath all that icing, I'll be happy.
Yeah, pretty much this.

I've modded Skyrim to my liking, so that it's quite attractive to look at and enjoyable to play. It's also true that a good amount of the time spent on this game is for installing/searching/tweaking it with mods and different configurations.

Skyrim is just good for what it is.

CDprojekt sent me an email today:

“The captivating and nonlinear story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place in a rich, truly open world environment. A world which is thrilling to explore, full of daring adventures, momentous quests, memorable characters, and unique monsters. Players will freely travel through woods, lakes, mountains, cities, and villages. Each region is inhabited by distinct populations with their own customs, legends and problems. The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is 30 times bigger than The Witcher 2," said Adam Badowski, head of the studio.

“Imagine playing a dark fantasy game with the same great nonlinear story as in the previous Witcher titles, but now told in a world you can explore freely with no artificial boundaries. The war-ravaged world is so huge that to reach further places you will need to ride a horse or sail a boat to get there. A world where your choices have truly epic consequences. From the development side, this goal is extremely demanding. Our team had to make significant design changes and our tech had to be rebuilt. But we believe that this will lead to a completely new level of nonlinearity and a whole new, richer gaming experience. As a gamer, I would love to play this kind of RPG and I think this is what many players are waiting for. This is our dream come true at CD Projekt RED, and we hope it will be the same for you!” adds Badowski.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final episode of the award-winning RPG series and the last part of the legend of Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the most robust and breathtaking game ever created by CD Projekt RED. Open world free-roaming exploration is an adventure in itself as the player will gallop through war-ravaged lands, sail misty waters and track down dangerous beasts for money. An improved combat system will allow players to feel like a real monster-hunter, a witcher who uses his superior senses and fighting skills to survive in a dark fantasy world--while he embarks on a quest to save his loved ones. The new core mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt immerse the player in the experience completely, with no Quick Time Events, only intuitive RPG gameplay. ''

I believe'm

CDPR does keep up with the times in terms of what we call "El Declino" but they also have a pretty close (non-sexual) relationship with its fans.

Their patches are pretty epic too.

Oh boy, it sounds like a Skyrim Skyshit clone.

I hope my worries are unsubstantiated.

So a team smaller than Bethesda is making a bigger game than Skyrim? Expect a world more empty than Skyrim.

Which would actually be good, if travelling by horse is fast enough and/or there are fast travel options.
Cause it would give the world a proper feeling of scale rather than stumbling upon a new dungeon every 100 metres, which makes the world feel cluttered.

I didn't express my concern properly.

What I've meant was that, due to CDP being smaller than Beth and Witcher 3 being supposedly bigger than Skyrim, it's a good chance we will have even more copy pasted enviroments and even more of the randomly generated "go kill xy" quests that Skyrim was choke-full.
As for the proper feeling of scale, that's fine, but I wonder for how long can the average adhd gamer, that CDP seems to be targeting more and more every year, travel without something awesome happening until quitting?

I guess I'm just unsure of CDP making a good open world game. Or maybe it's because I've been subjected to Beth's crap all these years that I've just lost faith in the subgenre.

What I really fucking hope they WON'T do is try to emulate the shitty combat systems of Skyrim/Risen. I fucking hate the First-Person Shooter RPG combat mechanics.

Apart from Dark souls, the obvious one, Witcher 2 had a good combat system, atleast compared to other action-rpg's. They do need to improve it, but that wouldn't be a bad starting point.

It can be done. Potato work harder and more efficient than lazy Americans.

But honestly, something on the scale of Gothic 2 would have been preferable and more realistic. But of course that wouldn't carry nearly as much hype as Skyrim...

I didin't expect such a good news about Witcher 3, after not-so-great W2. I hope they take their inspiration from the Gothic 1/2 NotR rather then Bethesda games. This looks like a Witcher game I always dreamed about( traveling through towns, looking for the witcher job) but let's wait . After all it's CDPR, they're always ruin some good ideas during a development.

If anything else, this game will be worth playing for the wonderful medieval feeling and great art alone. Witcher is the only series in years which done fantasy art in a way to make me actually want to look on the screen more often than on my stats.
The one with Geralt and Ciri(?) riding horses is 110% distilled Incline.
