If you thought C77 was too cinematic, TW4 has no grounds not to be even more so.

Don't look for logic in modern game and don't be surprised that KurwaDickgirlPerdoleRed don't care about established lore, much like any other company these days. Whole Witcher trilogy is the product of ignoring sapwokeski lore where Geralt gets quadrangulated by some peasant in the end. They would bend the lore again when it suits them. Like making wumbyn a full blown witcher. And and her dimensional elf superpowers (cringe) can be easily erased as side effect of witcher humiliation ritual... mutation ritual i mean. Or any other bs explanation, not that they need one. People will consoom.

I always thought it was "Witcher" that seemed like an unusually gender swapped term - a male witch.

Wiedzmyn is a masculinised "wiedzma" which stems from the Proto-Indo-European reconstructed root for the verb "know", wiedz-/weiss-/ etc. Witches were "women who know", i.e. know herbs, how to heal, how to curse, how to poison, how to break magic, etc. The wiedzmyn is simply "a knowledgable man".

Ciri as a protagonist was always the most likely decision - most W3 players like her and the "Ciri Witcher" ending (despite being the most boring, cliché and vacuous one) is quite popular and liked ; it's easiest for the writer's to continue where 3 left of (no need to come up with wildly new characters, factions, stakes and since it's a pre-defined character, there's no need to account for actions Ciri would never do) ; it's the character that better suits CDPR commitment to ESG

it's literally the easiest and laziest choice for a new protagonist

They were always going to go with Ciri being the Witcheress. Most of the compaints I'm seeing with the idea is that her story, like Geralts is done with by the end of TW3 and people just wanted a new character in the setting so a whole new saga could be told without needing to draw from the books in any way or form.
