Ah. Did you have any other portal set? You could have tried returning to it if you had time to react. I tend to keep one near T'Rang teleporter as it's configurable and allows for four different exit locations, so it's like four portals in one.
Yeah, in fact I have two other portals set, and I've already tried what you have suggested, like, thirty times, and those 2-3 seconds are just not enough to select one of the other two spellcasters, select the spellbook, the Air school, the spell, and the "Yes" button. Even if I use hotkeys for the first two steps.

Hmm, I guess I'll have to restart as the cheat set I downloaded from the link I gave above didn't help either.

Pretty much why I never play "Ironman". I did Ironman with Wiz8 (and some other games), but I just won't risk losing to glitches. So it's normal mode with normal saves but without reloads...

Interesting thought, has anyone ever tried a Dracon ninja?

Also, fucking rogues get major damage bonuses thanks to that backstab. Give them the black sword and they start to fucking massacre shit up. Or give them that cursed rapax blade.

I haven't though Dracons are very versatile. Then again, elite classes force them to spread points across many of their non-favoured attributes so they are not their forte.

Bloodlust + backstab is just brutal, especially if your rogue is a bit on the burly side. And Bloodlust can be obtained very early - if you want to use Thieves' Dagger, which is cursed anyway, why not equip Bloodlust as well?

Any way to remove the move delay? Also after I've quicksaved my movement keys don't respond for quite some till till I mess around with the mouselook and toggle it on and off for a while, is there something I'm doing wrong?

What move delay?

As for keys not responding it may be caused by alttabing - have you?

Weird, if I look in a specific direction there's no delay, but if I look in any others I don't move at all.

If you're running two 2-school bishops, is there a good reason to reinforce some of the schools with dedicated casters? Or are those two bishops plenty?

If you do get a reasonable benefit from adding dedicated casters on top, and assuming you only want 4 dedicated casters total, which two schools are best to reinforce? Wizardry and Divinity?

2-school bishops are your dedicated casters. Their benefit is that you don't need other dedicated casters, so you can have more hybrids (and a beefy front/middle line for what is otherwise a high-magic party).

They key 'spell progression' measurement you need to be aware of is having the right protection spells available for each area. I.e. you need to have good anti-psionics by the time you get to the Baijin, good large-area crowd control for Trynton, good debuff for the Rapax, good anti-magic when casters appear in the monster list etc. Spell progression above that point is neat, but not necessary. 4-school bishops are weak because spell progression is slower than area progression, so they won't have the spells when you really need them to.

I've never struggled to have 2-school bishops spell progression keep pace with area progression, so additional dedicated casters aren't an optimum pick. As many have said, you can finish Wiz8 with almost any party, but if you're going the 2-school bishops, use them instead of other dedicated casters.

Need to say that i really don't like my current hybrid party much. Dwarf Lord, Human Monk, Felpurr Ninja and Human Samurai. Really don't see how you can develop any of the casting schools to even an average level without cheese ''training''. Only reasonably trainable schools are divinity because of constant healing each other (with one miserable dot in green at the beginning for everyone ;/) and mental magic for monk, who does constant ''identify'', mindread, insanity, detect secrets etc. There is absolutely no sense trying to make your samurai cast fireball with almost no success chance and the only dot in yellow. Spending points on magic schools would severely impair their fighting abilities and you want to get those up faster than anything else, which is why i only put points in general realm school and sometimes in one of the most usable sub-school. Only good thing is that i can use missile shield, enchanted blade and soon the armor thingie (lord needs his divinity upped to 30).
The fact that piety and int is around 50 for everyone doesn't help either. Low mana points and will take forever to get powercast.
One thing i also noticed that samurais take damage like total pancies and it seems that all mobs know that and target them like mad. They also loose stamina at the same rate so i need to stock pile pickmeup potions for him. Wtaf is wrong with that? He doesn't have less vitality or armor class than anyone else except the lord.
All and all must say that will never make pure hybrid party. It's just too tedious to develop them any good in both fighting and casting./rant

Whatever you want. Bards can be pretty cool and incredibly versatile, but they are a bit overrated
Not really. P. sure if i ever make a solo game it will be bard. One incredible advantage is that they can be made into melee monsters faster than liz-fighter with the help of two rings of +20 str and if you add the caliban's armor and fang to the combo (also those other pieces in that same armor set), he/she just turns into ubermensch. You can have 65 in initial strenght and with those modifiers have full 125 which is better than any other fighter in the game. And that's without even mentioning the instruments + traps/locks/pickpocket ability and high senses for scouting.

Btw, has anyone ever made bard from the lizard person? Seems the only drawback would be lack of intelligence. Otherwise than that, a perfect powerhouse for small party/solo game.

I just started a new game with Fighter, Monk, Valk, Bard, and two Bishops. So far so good except I've been hoarding spell picks with my Bishops, like people seem to recommend.

Given I'm going only 2 schools each, is it still necessary to almost never use spell picks until spell levels 6 and 7? I feel like in the meantime my Bishops are doing almost nothing except healing my guys during tougher fights.

You will find a lot of spell books and you can buy even more (starting as soon as Arnika), but the bought ones are pretty random. Just pick the spells that seem most useful to you, best spells aren't that high level (Superman, Guardian Angel, Soul shield, the adventuring spells).

Simply experminet and have fun, what's with the lemming drive to create one, specific, uber party according to guides and even asking what spells to pick and when, especially in a game like Wizardry. No offense, but that's pretty :retarded:

The only thing I'd do as far as hand-holding is concerned is checking the net for the list of books that are there to be found (those are fixed), so you'll avoid picking spells tha you will later get anyway.

It's not "lemming" behavior. It's more about the fact that Wizardry 8 requires a massive time investment to get through and I'd rather not be stuck with characters that I don't like for 50 hours. One aspect of avoiding building characters I don't like is to do research on how to build them. I don't have time anymore to play a game of this size 10 times and experiment with everything... hell, I never had time to do that.

I like the idea of looking at the list of findable spellbooks, though. I checked out that list and some of the spells I considered picking are available for free in the near future.

No offence meant bro, I always thought that inventing and trying out new combinations is most of the fun in that game. If you know a thing or two about crpgs creating a capable and fun party in Wiz8 isn't that difficult, the info that the game gives you (bonus stat points per race, stats influencing skills etc) is pretty sufficient. And guides or advice from people who finished the game a few times aren't always the best way to have fun, they will tell you to cast charm or knock knock all over again'n'shit.

Hybrids are a support, even with powergaming they take ridiculous time to get the better spells and will still cast them like drunkards (also no powercast, as you already noticed). Ninja has too many skills to develop even when avoiding alchemy completely (plus the insane exp requirements), ranger is better for that. The only hybrid class that has no problems with developing magic is Valkyrie, she basically needs to pump only two skills from the start - close combat and polearms, so you can put 3 point per level into divinity as soon as it unlocks. Also, she will max polearms pretty quickly, so that's another 3 point free.

Wasn't offended, I was just defending my viewpoint. I did have to restart the game once already after I started a new game with the party I mentioned and chose "Sleep" for one of my Bishops... luckily, I noticed my Poet's Lute 30 seconds into the game

And did you take a bishop because you were told to do so here or because you liked the desciption?
And restarting simply because of 1 superflously chosen spell? (And two castings increase the chances of affecting the enemies.)
Sorry, the 2010er gets far more respect from me. He just shouldn't have pussied out on telling you what a pussy you are.

For all the morons that need help putting on their pants in the morning:
Wiz8 can be finished with probably any party.
If you're too dumb or lazy to get to know the classes go with good old fighter, priest, mage, thief(or bard) and another two classes that sound like fun to you. Now, wasn't that hard, was it?
There is no "perfect" party. It's fun playing with non-perfect parties. Perfecting your party is also fun.
If you're looking for an awesome button look somewhere else.

Damn 2006-fags...

The fuck are you on about? Not a single sentiment in your post made any sense.

I picked the Bishops because they sounded more efficient than having either one school dedicated casters or one school hybrids. Plus, my usual party design in any game involves efficient use of a minority of casters in the back line combined with a bunch of melee experts. I don't like ammo classes (fuck you Gadgeteer and Ranger), I don't like Rogues. Are you happy now?

And restarting simply because of 1 superflously chosen spell?

As I said, if you had read my post and then used your brain to comprehend the words, I restarted 30 seconds into the game.

Wiz8 can be finished with probably any party.

So I'm a moron because I didn't just randomly pick characters for my party and let 'er rip?

If you're too dumb or lazy to get to know the classes

So a minute ago I'm a moron because I didn't just pick the first classes that seemed cool and now I'm a moron because I'm not spending ENOUGH time doing research?

Perfecting your party is also fun.

The fuck do you think I'm doing?

If you're looking for an awesome button look somewhere else.

I already found an awesome button in your mother's vagina.

@Gnidrologist:

Bards are indeed powerful and versatile, but almost everyone considers them 'omgindispensable' while they frankly aren't. They aren't even particularly overpowered for a class receiving so much hype, it's just that they are quite malleable when it comes to development.

As for hybrids - well, you get what you spend points on, even discounting the 5 level lag. You can always start as a pure caster and dual to hybrid if you want better magical skills or just don't want the lag.
Alchemists can also heal, BTW, and they can also level their skill by mixing potions.

Lizardmen can be good in stamina-demanding professions even if points indicate otherwise, same with Dracons.

@Castanova:

I'll spare you the hassle - IIRC, save for Mindstab and all spells equal or higher than lvl6 (barring Banish), all spells are available as books *somewhere*. Holy Water only drops in specific Arnika encounter, so it might also be unavailable depending on the whims of RNG.

Not terribly helpful given that some might be acquired rather late.

Also, butthurt detected.

Having strong communications does really adjust the price for alot of items tho. Ex: Ferro in Rapax Rift, Don Bartone, etc. However, communication is more of an afterthought adjustment type skill, like OK, I've just maxed out my sword and music skills for my bard. Gonna work on shield and lockpick while every other level putting points into music.
