This whole "new Thief" thing makes Fallout 3 look like a slightly misguided but ultimately loveable attempt to revive a classic, made by well-meaning (if slightly creatively handicapped) people who love and respect the original. (Even Arcania at least had the decency to drop the "nameless hero".)

Jesus...this is worse than DmC: Dig my Cojones wuboot. Love interest protege, context-sensitive jumping, popamole stealth mechanics, ditching the excellent fluff of The City for "I Can't Believe It's Not Dishonored!"...what's next, awkward Garret/Baron sex scene(s)? Dubstep soundtrack?

Exactly. Quoting myself:
This is gonna turn out to be one of the worst franchise rapes in recent times. I mean even the guys at Bethesda - as much as they fucked Fallout in the ass - tried to emulate some of the key elements from the previous games in their cute, completely hapless and incompetent kind of way (Ron Perlman, the art and feel of the setting, Mutants, Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel, SPECIAL, aimed shots, perks etc.)

I got so fucking mad when I read this post.

Dubstep soundtrack?

God dammit man, now the credits are destined to be bathed in wub wub.

Remember that during the last cutscene in Dark Project, and on different occasions, a modern, industrial music was played?A

Yes.
I actually liked industrial music from Thief games.
However, 'Assassins', 'A Woman Named Viktoria' (not THAT Viktoria) and 'The Eye' are still my favourites from the unofficial Dark Project soundtrack that is floating around the web.

The gameplay and story of this heap of discaded viscera makes me wonder why do they still cling to the "Thief" title?
Where's Al-Quaeda when you fucking need them?

They'd probably be playing CoD and learning tactics. Or spamming petards in Age of Empires 2.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
More like pretentious story thrown in the face of the player.

Thief's story had more depth than that because there were lots of subtleties and the characterization was excellent.

Shadorwun: Hong Kong
No it wasn't. Fan distortion field

It was subtle though (look up this old jtr7 post for instance - there is more i can't find, including a 'mythology' of the setting gleaned from the intro background)

bla bla story blabla video
First and foremost, thank you for spoiling the story you dumbass! Secondly, I think this was a well presented video, and I must admit, there were good parts in it, I think this story could work. Except that the guy says that Garret only kills as a last resort, yet in the game he will be a killing machine. It is in your face, without any subtlety, yes. But if the gameplay would be great, I would accept this story. Thing is, the gamplay will suck. Fuck.

OMG GURL GETS KIDNAPPED BY THE BARON AND GARRETT HAS TO SAVE HER, BECAUSE HE HAS EMOTIONAL DEPTH NOW. Also, because he's her father. Kinda like in that other game. The final boss fight is a quicktime event.
