Do any of you guys know about a "cheese your way through the game"-let's play of any of the old Thief games?

You know, using as many exploits as possible, using AI flaws and so on.

I had completely forgotten about that site.
:bro:

Hm, I should one day try to draw the attention of all the guards in a level, get them to follow me and then try to put as many to sleep at once as possible with the help of some gas arrow and/or flash bombs.

Though, poor graphics aside, my main problem with Thief is that the noble whose house the first level takes place in is apparently the size of a large town

Reading this sentence again, is he refering to the size of the house or the size of the noble? Anyway, it's a retarded complaint.

And since I'm watching that tv show, downton abbey:

So unrealistic. This house is the size of a megalopolis...

Bro when you are living in favelas any building will look like a majestic town to you
Yeah, but why would a slum scum want to play a game with slum house sized levels? Even poorfags aren't that retard.

I'm merely trying to find a logical explanation to unbelievably retarded things people say about Thief.

Of course after writing my favela comment I tried to watch that Gameinformer playthrough and now I realize there is no explanation and fully believe that the thing like "gaming journos are getting bribed waaa" is a bullshit.

They are just fucking retarded.

HOW CAN YOU WITH A STRAIGHT FACE SAY THAT THIEF HAS PLODDING CONTROLS AND THEN PRAISE THE SHIT OUT OF THE UNWIELDY CONTROLS OF MODERN CONSOLE PORTS

HOLY SHIIIIIIT BRAIN MELTING

I gave up when the consoletard said Splinter Cell improved on Thief.

The first few Splinter Cells were cool (maybe the first 3). You could control the speed you walked at with the mouse wheel. I don't remember that fine of control over walk speed in any non Mech Warrior game.

Yeah, I liked the mouse wheel control of movement speed. Although, Thief wasn't bad with its 8 possible movement speeds.

Bro there's a part in the video where he keeps attacking a guard with 1 hit left on him (and yet he plays on easiest difficulty, first level too), dies, reloads - around 5 times in total. And then he makes a comment "well that's Thief for you - save, reload, save, reload, save, reload"

After 5th reload he had finally let the guard just... pass. And he didn't die!

This is why all those retarded pseudo-stealth games are like they are now - you just kill your way through a level with guards trying their best to ignore you. And when a retard encounters an actual, proper stealth game - he suffers a meltdown.

He even praised Thiaf because there Garrett will tell you what to do through a monologue and whined that Thief has no quest compass and other retard helpers.

Splinter cell is another thing. The first three are good and it's shadow system, and even sound is somewhat similar to the original thiefs, but splinter cell is not about a thieving, and killing bad guys was not disencouraged. Levels were linear since he beginning of the series. But it went decline in double agent and full popamole in conviction. This new one still looks like conviction, but they brouught back some mechanics of the old splinter cells, but still is popamoiole without michael ironside.

Anyway, I'm much more forgiving to what they do to splinter cell franchise than I am about thief.

Only tried the first one. I guess they are OK for what they are, if you like consolized, linear levels and your character obstructing your view. But compared to Thief 1 and 2 I found the first SC to be the most disappointing piece of crap ever. And I actually enjoyed Unreal 2, Invisible War and (modded) Oblivion.

If I remember correctly the first two Splinter Cell games discouraged killing. If you kill too many, the mission will fail.

Hell, the mission would even fail if you tried to explore and strayed an inch from the rail.

Splinter Cell never pretended it was a Thief game did it? They were good for what they were.

I also remember being able to go first person, but maybe that was just for shooting? Or my memory is failing.

It was and is always compared to Thief. But the only thing that it has in common is that you can sneak.
If there really was a FP view, I must have failed to RTFM properly.

It's funny about expectations. Games I have low expactations to I can enjoy, but with Splinter Cell I had high expectations and was led to believe it was like Thief, but it turned out it was very much anti-Thief, lacking the immersion, large open levels and atmospehere of the Thief games.

Holy fucking shit, they don't even find out you can crouch until 11 minutes into the thing. WTF? Are these guys actually game journalists? I know game journalists are generally retarded, but this is taking things to a whole new level.

Best thing about splinter cell was the multiplayer.

Especially playing the mercs and using an UZI or a shotgun. They introduced much butthurt, so much even that most nooblet servers had "NO UZI/SHOTTY" in names :troll:

'NOOB, UZI MAKES ME LAG'

"NOOB, SHOTGUN IS TOTALLY OVERPOWERED'

"PLZ KICK SHOTGUN NOOB"

:troll:
