The real Garrett would break into their development office and steal all the hard disks with the game data without anyone even noticing he was in the office at all.
And he wouldn't do it for the greater good of preventing that abortion of a game from seeing the light of day, but because the Codex offered him a high monetary reward and he does have to pay his rent somehow...

better check your pockets, since he may have taken our wallets when he came here to get the job.

I’m going to disagree here, again, relating it back to my recent play-through of the original Thief. I bloody hated getting lost. The fact is, it’s nowhere near as easy to navigate through a game level with repeating patterns and textures and a pseudo-sense of 3D as it is to keep your sense of direction about you in real life. So games immediately disadvantage the player because of that. The arrows telling me roughly where to go are a godsend – I can ignore them as much as I want if I feel like exploring, but at least I can get my bearings again afterwards. It’s like a fair replacement for my intuitive grasp of where I’m going in a real space.

And when I’m playing a single-player game, roleplaying a master thief or infiltrator, I expect the game to give me access to the kind of abilities that a master thief or infiltrator has, which presumably includes knowing where the hell they’re going.
It is because of you that we have this crap, random Internet guy. It is because of you.

Melan LOL. The game had a map screen that showed you where you were. In times past, even that feature would have been considered popamole decline.

What's funny is that I didn't notice maps in Thief 1 were automaps until recently (roughly 2 years ago).

Oh thief maps... where art thou?

I loved the way they were just rough draft, based on garrets previous research...

Yes, the idea of having a different "resolution" of map for different levels is a brilliant one. In some maps, you know exactly what room you're in. In others, well...

They limited the player knowledge to in-character knowledge regarding the maps, which is the right approach to take.

IIRC not all fan missions are setup correctly to use the highlight room feature on the map

The Eidos forums are full of glorious disappointment and rage. I think EM underestimated the fans' dedication to Thief.

This limited time excuse is so funny, suddenly everybody is super busy, I automatically translate it as: I'm too retarded and have a too limited attention spam to play this game. How this people get to home without being lost? You just need to be methodical and memorize the map layout, I guess that the problem is that there isn't enough explosions to generation Call of Duty. There is no problem in not liking a game but this shit excuse of limited time is just disguised butthurt. If you explore Thief super slow, Thief 1 lasts for 25 hs, if you don't care about a perfect ghost run, it is even faster

Pretty much, yeah. You do have a bunch of apologists and the EM community manager said that the reception was "overwhelmingly positive" (sic) during a Squeenix broadcast, but overall pretty much everyone took a shit on the game and rightfully so.

Too bad, then, it will release to poor reaction and instead of "Oh, we made a Thief for retarded post-natal abortions," it will translate to "Audiences have spoken: they dont want non-modern warfare desert combat shooters with multiplay / franchises nobody remembers / etc."

Good. Maybe then they'll learn to let sleeping corpses lie. I'd like that possibility just fine. Let the AAA+++ shit be popamole for the kiddies who like that sort of thing, it makes it easier to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Interestingly, the only apologists are the moderators.

By the way, what is this I don't even...?

As previously stated, in a sense, the majority of all games can be considered one big QTE. Example: You come to a platform, lava is behind you, you press A to jump, you misjudged, you fall in the pit. Or, you enter a room, a door closes and a boss fight happens. In each case you will NOT progress UNLESS you succesfully use hand eye coordination. You'll die over and over again. How is this any different from a QTE? Because most QTE have a prompt?

As for having basis in a Thief game and my stance, it's simply a gameplay mechanic that fits within the confines of the game world. What wouldn't fit would be laser guns or something that is out of place and couldn't possibly take place in that world. Finally, playing Thief is not a prerequisite to stating my opinion, which, btw, is based on fact and playing better games with QTE.

Isn't that Thief 2? Dunno, never needed to see maps more than 1 time in Thief 1. People are really retarded nowadays, that or eXtremely lazy.

:what:

The stupidity of popamolers never ceases to amaze me. Yes, there's no difference between having actual separate game mechanics and replacing those with the same thing over and over again.
