Let's see: Avowed is written by Carrie Pattel (Californian feminist), Dragon Age is written by that LGBT Twitter chick, VtMB2 is written by a British person, as well as Fable. It's like an all-star match of retardation, and can go any way. But Dragon Age will be the worst simply by the virtue of EA + Bioware being an undefeatable combo.

Regardless, if you buy any of these titles instead of KCD2, you deserve all that's coming to you, and more.
Ι am not sure KCD2 is a safe bet. Wasn't the company behind the first one sold?
And yes all four game in the list will be pure crap (some more than the others).

It wasn't sold, the publisher (Koch Media) has been bought by Embracer (and thus Warhorse). Apparently, it hasn't affected KCD2's development. Even if it's not a safe bet, it'll still be vastly better than the other four because Vavra has integrity. There might be a member of minority here or there to appease the goyim, but at least the game won't be oversimplified for the mass market.

Well said. People should stop buying decline.

Nothing nowadays is a safe bet but KCD2 at least has chances to be a good game. This 4 has no chance of being good. Anyway, Daniel Vavra is a very based guy :

VTMB 2 on the other hand, will be one of the biggest flops in the decade when it releases.Insane development time with insane publisher expectations from a studio that have never done this type of game is a recipe for disaster. It just might be the beginning of the end for Paradox, considering city skylines 2 has flopped and the sims clone is in dev hell.
On the bright side, them going bankrupt and ceasing operations might inspire other creatives afraid to compete with them to finally make the urban fantasy crpgs they wanted to make inspired by Bloodlines 1. Since they also own the tabletop IP that they've likewise driven into the ground, it being cancelled might finally be the impetus for indie devs to make more urban fantasy ttrpgs that were otherwise too afraid to compete.

Not being able to make profit off a "beloved" franchise can only have the opposite effect: urban fantasy would be something you should NOT be doing. Remember that moneybags only go where they see profit.

Not everyone is a moneybag. There's a few passionate creators out there. Like the developers of MoonFall and Nighthawks. Furthermore, kickstarter exists. There's plenty of indie creators with harebrained ideas that got funded by kickstarter and published successful games.

There's success stories in that genre that didn't use an established IP. Vampyr was a huge success for its developer, selling 2 million copies thru 2018-2022 and being their best selling game thus far. They didn't turn it into a franchise (yet), but it shows that you can succeed in such a niche genre. It's comparably or more financially successful than Bloodlines despite not being memorable in the least (Bloodlines has sold anywhere from 600k to 2 million copies by Steam since its release in 2007, last I checked).

Meanwhile, the ttrpg hobby has this whole edition treadmill thing where publishers have to periodically release new editions of games to maintain sales and community numbers. The whole OSR movement is similar to a decentralized One Page Rules for D&D and has been maintaining steam for decades now, with Pathfinder being the most famous and popular example. If there's a known profitable niche that no company is currently exploiting, then someone will come along and exploit it. The ttrpg industry suffers from extreme first mover advantage due to its niche nature, but if one of the first movers does go bankrupt and ceases operations, then somebody else will swoop in. If Hasbro ever ceases publishing new D&D books, then Paizo is positioned to takeover as market leader. If Paradox ever ceases publishing new WoD books, then... well, we'll see what happens, won't we?

Even if you combined all ideas from these (Dragon Age 4, Avowed and Bloodlines 2) it STILL cannot amount to even 1/3 of a Renaissance era title

Tyranicon one has to respect your fearlessness of the scrutiny to which all the shit you're talking exposes Vampire Syndicate :excellent:
Let's see if it pays off

I have never worked in or for the games industry, I have no connections with any of these weirdos, and I'm my own boss.

I have nothing but contempt for an industry dominated by corporate yes-men and delusional pity-hires. They've long since driven anyone with a shred of talent or self dignity out of the business and made everything into shit.

In short, I hate it all and am waiting for it to die.

What are they going to do, cancel me? Brother, I make porn games.
Do you not know what the word "scrutiny" means, oh the illustrious savior of the RPG genre? With all the shit you're talking about the industry you're setting a standard for your own projects that you might not be able to provide. Personally, I'm not too optimistic about your chances for some weird reason.

On an unrelated note, do you offer refunds for Memoirs of a Battle Brothel?

If I talk a lot of shit, it's because the industry is garbage and I think I can do better. Can I actually do better? Who knows? But at least by now I have a track record. And I'm putting skin in the game instead of just talking big on some forum.

I'm one dude with no money. I don't have EA or Microsoft in my back pocket, and I don't have "a small budget of 100 million dollars." If I get anywhere, it'll be by effort alone.

What makes you think I don't welcome scrutiny?

I have absolutely no doubt that industry shills/bots, and jealous devs will starting @'ing me as I get more popular. I don't care. I don't start drama. And no, calling out shit games as diseased corporate slop isn't drama, that's just what it is.

Also the illustrious savior of RPGs being some coomer dev from RPGcodex is so hilarious, I want to make that true now.

Re: refunds, I follow the store policy for Steam and Itch. With the project long completed, I'm no longer offering refunds on Kickstarter.

Well, Tyranicon has the secret to vampy puss puss so it is in his sex parlor for the game to take shape and form. We can only wait patiently.
The kickstarter already passed?

It's mind-boggling to think how we even got to this sorry state. This has to be the most hilarious period of RPG development ever.
I have a feeling companies like BioWare look at Baldur's Gate 3 and think they got the "All Clear" to make games as gay as possible. They even pay consultants six figures to tell them that's true, and to go back and make changes. They watch all these other games go bust, and studios get sacked, and think, "Yeah, Baldur's Gate 3's the new rule!" as opposed to the exception. It's terminal optimism bias.
BG3 probably won't have influence on any AAA games coming out until 2026, the dev cycles are too long.

I think the poetic part of it is that when BG1 was made, Bioware made conscious decision to make it RTWP so the 10 year old gamer doesn't drop the game after the first 5 minutes. The later evolution of BW games ending in a series of games with meh at best action combat is just a continuation of the trend they've started all the way back then already. Two decades pass and Larian gets to make BG3. They make it turn based and they succeed, you may say it's despite the combat, but what matters is Larian stuck to what they did well, Bioware did RTwP reasonably well but didn't stick with it. They were getting ready to the release year of DA4. With a poor action combat system again. Baldurs Gate 3 proves that the entire evolution of their games was pointless and they were better off sticking to let's say DA:Origins gameplay if nothing else.

Really surprised that these games were signed off for funding. Sign of how utterly disconnected publishers are. It's not even just the codex that think these look bad - most of them have been negatively received everywhere.

I am obliged to vote for VtMB2. It will win the cringe derby by default, other contestants might as well not show up, just look at them:

DA is old news, it's all the classic Bioware failures re-heated, re-packaged, and re-sold to you at a markup. One word: stale.

Fable is going to be its own brand of terrible, but Fable has never treated itself too seriously, consequentially - it's difficult to treat it too seriously. There's no potential for spectacle there, just Fable as it's always been, but worse. Who cares?

On the other hand, Bloodlines 2 is chock full of potential: setting that has been twisted into a pretzel by its new owner, Chinese Room for a developer, development restarted from scratch, characters and writing by a #currentyear narrative designer, hubris - plenty of it, too, character design by Tumblr's finest, terminal levels of cringe(Main character's name is Phyre. P H Y R E!) - that's our best contestant right there.

This is gonna be lit, and I'll be there for it.

Ah yeah, and there's also Avowed. I forgot to list it, because I forgot that it existed tbh. Tells you everything you need to know, but alright, here's my bet: Modern Obsidian is too tightly managed to produce nuclear-grade cringe, so it will be a stale and boring failure in the same vein as DA.
