If you want to do combat you will need defense (not HP, that's no real defense). Shoot for >50 dodge/block asap, trying to get to 75 quickly.

While you are here VD does the"magic" trinket the lore master gives you has hidden stats, ive not noticed the change on my character sheet ? or It will requires further discovery later in the game to activate it ? or is that just that hes really a charlatan like gaius said he was ?
He is a charlatan, but it's not as simple as that.

First, items don't increase your stats, so don't expect it. It's not that kind of magic. Second, the Eye is a fake - Feng made that story up on the spot seeing your interest (since your Streetwise was too low to kick in earlier), but the crystal itself does have its uses. It's not a mandatory item though.

I'm cool with my assassin's first combat encounter. Flurry worked nice but then turned into 0 damage crap. Makes sense, so I try aimed head strikes. Doesn't really do what I want, which is MASSIVE DAMAGE, so I go power attacks. That works. I was really going for precise face high damage armor bypass stabbing there with the aimed head strikes though, so is the knockout bonus thing(and disarm, etc) really a flat modifer across all weapons?
If you have high CS flurry can do wonders due to STAT draining. Try getting crafting to 50 soon (10 INT helps) to craft masterwork daggers with "vs DR".

If you have trouble sky way i can lend you my saves, for a good build high dodge, high critical attack, and left over in crossbow, off course you still have to aim at the right opponent, use your head, you will notice your teamates are focusing some enemy, help them by shooting in the back with the crossbow, you dont have to run from the encounter.Use knock down, the guy has a shiald and block you ? target another guy first! I know all that info is teh hard, its called strategy!

Ok thanks for the quick answer, i was wondering if ithe ring and the crystal were some dormant high tech item, again thats very nice to be fooled in a game hehe.

Otherwise you wouldn't be weaseling out of "ranged chars suck" argument.
We are not having an argument, Skyway. You're bitching for the sake of bitching (color me surprised) and making shit up as you go. Ranged characters are a viable option. It's a fact proven by months of testing. Now you know and now you can either: a) try harder knowing that it's possible and even easy (Mortmal did it on his first playthrough) or b) continue bitching like nothing happened.

It's really weird playing AoD when people have been using the portraits on the forums for years. Getting quests from Grunker breaks my immershuns :(

Not sure if :incline: or :decline:
I want to like the game, but so far I'm mostly just bored. I'll give it another go when I'm not tired as fuck.

To simulate the natural spread of decadence, of course.

Congrats on getting the demo out Vince, I'm really happy to see it arrive. Won't be able to try it for another few hours but I'll do my best to give good feedback as well.

Read my post above.

Tell me how did you win that combat with a bow?
The random encounter with the merchant that lead you in an abandonned house ? Well either move back shoot, or if you are cornered use the dagger, the dagger skill on a very beggining char isnt much lower than the range skills,as ive put most on dodge in the beggining, then later i raised critical theres probably other way to do this , like using a net and throw it to immobilize one, i see plenty of possibilities according different builds. You are grasping at straws, its a very minor fight, more like a punishment fight if you are too dumb to beleive you will get a discount you should be thankful to survive at all. Important story wise fights allow me to place multiple shots at range in fact the bolt were much more efficient in some case (legionaires) and in the last fight the only thing that could save me as i finsihed the demo at 9hp yet the guildmaster was alive(hurray!).

So is the 'find the raider's camp' quest for the praetor the end of the demo? I can't get out of the town it seems. Also, I helped out the refugee dude by the gate and he said he would see me at the 'market square' but there's no-one new at the merchant's square nor the place where the guy was doing his speech thing.

edit: You really need to cut down on the teleporting + initiate dialog thing. There's no point on building a nice place and atmospheric buildings near it if the game goes straight to business and just cuts me to the guy justifying the building and then immediately begin conversation.

Or like in the praetor's beginning with Dellar you walk a little bit towards the barricade and then you immediately enter a dialog /choose action window. Dude what if I just want to enter the palace, or walk to the side garden things.

It isn't random. I recreated a char 3 times and it was there. Just to see how it plays out with different builds.

Also thank you very much but I didn't pick a ranged char so I can use my bow only on thursdays.

The problem is that you are always cornered because you are teleported in between several enemies. And that's how encounter design often works in AoD.

This isn't challenging. This isn't "punishment". It just a cheap way to make it hard. If I wasn't teleported inside that house I could've actually run around shooting them. But I guess that isn't trv3 hardk0r3 enough.

Other examples of crappy AoD encounter design include the "leading loremaster into the trap" which just teleports you inside a building and "escorting Vard-something" where you teleport in such way that enemies already in the next square to him. As a body guard you should be leading, not trailing.

Teleports are not a good design.

You get out of the town by clicking on the "World" on the map screen. This lets you to travel to other locations, most of which are "unavailable in demo"

He is a white-bearded guy standing in front of his weapon stall. Turn left after you map travel to the merchants plaza.

Vince, I found a bug. After dying repeatedly to the first assassin you encounter as a Mercenary, causing you to reload, the game eventually bugs out and kills you the second the finish character creation.
